Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a quick image of what is visible on your screen, use your computer’s screenshot controls. To capture a long webpage from top to bottom, use your browser’s full-page screenshot feature instead: Firefox has a direct “Save full page” option, while Chrome provides “Capture full size screenshot” in DevTools. These methods produce different results, so choose based on whether you need the visible screen, a whole webpage, or a page saved for later browsing.
Choose the right kind of capture
A desktop screenshot can mean a picture of the screen or window currently displayed, or an image of an entire webpage including content below the browser window. An operating-system screenshot captures what is visible; a browser’s full-page tool captures webpage content beyond the viewport. If you need only a specific part of a page, Firefox can also capture a selected element.
- Visible screen, window, or area: use your operating system’s screenshot controls.
- Entire webpage as an image: use Firefox’s page screenshot tool or Chrome DevTools.
- Page component: Firefox DevTools offers a screenshot option for a selected page element.
- Saved copy for later browsing: a browser archive is a different artifact from a screenshot image.
Capture a full webpage in Firefox
Use Firefox’s screenshot interface
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Open the screenshot interface and choose Save full page.
- Choose Download to save an image, or Copy to place it on the clipboard.
Firefox saves a downloaded capture in its default download folder. Mozilla’s support article lists Ctrl+S to save and Ctrl+C to copy on Windows and Linux; on macOS it lists Command+S and Command+C. Mozilla documents the workflow and destination in its Firefox screenshot support guide.
Enable the full-page button in DevTools
If you prefer Developer Tools, Mozilla says the entire-page screenshot button is disabled by default. Open Developer Tools settings, find Available Toolbox Buttons, and check Take a screenshot of the entire page. Then use the screenshot icon. The image is saved to Downloads. To capture one element instead, open the Inspector’s HTML pane, right-click the element, and choose Screenshot Node. See Mozilla’s Firefox Developer Tools screenshot documentation.

Use the Web Console for more control
Firefox’s Web Console helper :screenshot supports options including a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, clipboard, CSS selector, and --fullpage. The full-page option includes parts of the page outside the current window bounds. Consult Mozilla’s documentation for the precise syntax and available flags before building a repeatable command workflow. Be careful when reusing a filename: a subsequent capture may overwrite an earlier one.
Capture a full webpage in Chrome
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open DevTools by right-clicking the page and selecting Inspect.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+P on macOS.
- Type screenshot, then select Capture full size screenshot.
The command captures the full page rather than only the visible browser area. Chrome DevTools also supports other screenshot techniques, including area, mobile, and element captures. Command names and labels can shift between Chrome versions, so search the Command Menu for “screenshot” if the wording differs. See Chrome’s DevTools Command Menu documentation and its screenshot guide.
Capture a visible screen or window on macOS
Apple’s built-in shortcuts capture the displayed screen, not an entire long webpage. Use the browser’s full-page workflow above when content below the viewport must be included.
- Shift-Command-3: capture the entire screen.
- Shift-Command-4: select a portion of the screen.
- Shift-Command-4, then Space: capture a window or menu.
- Shift-Command-5: open Screenshot controls to choose a screen, window, or portion and adjust options such as save location and timer.
Screenshots go to the desktop by default unless you change the save location. Apple documents the shortcuts and controls in its Mac screenshot guide.

What about Edge and Safari?
Microsoft Edge
Microsoft documents opening DevTools from Settings and more > More tools > Developer tools, and opening the DevTools Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+P on macOS. A secondary guide describes Edge Web Capture options called Capture Area and Capture full page; menu wording and availability may vary by version. Check the current Edge interface rather than assuming those labels are identical everywhere. See Microsoft’s Edge DevTools guide.
Safari
Safari’s File > Save As can save a webpage as a Web Archive or Page Source. A Web Archive retains page graphics and links for later access where destination pages remain available; Page Source saves HTML. Neither is the same as exporting a full-page screenshot image. Apple explains these save options in its Safari webpage-saving guide.
Use an API when you need repeatable screenshots
For a one-off capture, a browser is usually simplest. For a script, scheduled job, or application that needs image or PDF output from a URL, a screenshot API can avoid setting up browser automation. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server: a GET request with a URL returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its API accepts many parameter names used by other screenshot APIs, which can make migration easier.

Replace the example URL if needed and put your API key in place of YOUR_API_KEY. The request below saves the response as a WebP image:

What an API can change
ScreenshotNeo has 63 options covering capture and delivery controls. Relevant choices include full-page capture with lazy images loaded, capture of an element by CSS selector, dark mode, 12 device presets or a custom viewport, and retina scale. PDF settings include paper size, margins, landscape, and page ranges. You can also provide custom CSS or JavaScript, click an element before capture, hide selectors, and wait for a selector, a delay, or network idle.
For request and environment control, options include blocking ads, trackers, requests, or resource types; custom headers, cookies, user agent, and Authorization; timezone and geolocation; transparent backgrounds; resizing; and caching with a TTL you choose. Delivery and workflow options include signed links for public <img> tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Availability of these features is stated for ScreenshotNeo’s plans; consult its documentation for the exact parameter names and behavior.
Clean captures, billing, and plans
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners as a visitor would and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, along with newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. It reports page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed response headers. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing; only clean shots are billed.
All features are included on every plan. The published monthly allowances and prices are:

Choose a method by the result you need
- Visible screen or window: use macOS screenshot shortcuts when applicable, or the screenshot controls built into your operating system. The result reflects what is on screen.
- Full-page image with minimal setup: use Firefox’s Save full page option, or Chrome’s DevTools command.
- Single page element: use Firefox DevTools’ Screenshot Node or an API’s selector option.
- Saved webpage for later browsing: use Safari’s Web Archive option, understanding it is not a screenshot image.
- Repeated or automated captures: use an API when you need URL-driven requests, configurable output, or integration with scripts and services.
Troubleshooting screenshot captures
The image shows only the visible viewport
You likely used an operating-system screen or window capture. That records displayed pixels, not the webpage content below the viewport. Use Firefox’s Save full page or Chrome DevTools’ Capture full size screenshot.
The Chrome screenshot command is hard to find
Open DevTools first, then open the Command Menu using the shortcut for your platform and type “screenshot.” Chrome labels can change; searching the menu is more reliable than looking for a permanent toolbar button.
The Firefox full-page DevTools button is missing
Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page in Developer Tools settings under Available Toolbox Buttons, then use the screenshot icon. Alternatively, use Firefox’s screenshot interface and choose Save full page.

The capture contains a popup, consent dialog, or chat widget
A normal browser capture records what the page displays. If you need a cleaner image, dismiss or remove overlays before capturing, or use an API workflow that handles supported consent banners and widgets. On ScreenshotNeo, those cleanup steps can each be disabled if you need the untouched page appearance.
A repeat Firefox capture replaced an earlier file
Check whether the same filename was reused. Firefox’s :screenshot helper can save with a chosen filename, so use a distinct filename for each capture you want to keep.
Or skip the browser setup
Make one GET request to capture a URL. For example, this cURL command returns a WebP screenshot:

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I copy a full-page screenshot in Firefox?
Choose the Firefox screenshot interface’s “Save full page” option, then select “Copy” to put the image on the clipboard.
Can Safari save a full webpage as a screenshot image?
The cited Safari guide documents Web Archive and Page Source saving, not a full-page screenshot image workflow. Those saved formats are not screenshot images.
Does a normal desktop screenshot include content below the browser window?
No. A screen or window capture records what is currently displayed; use a browser’s full-page capture feature for content beyond the viewport.
