For a long webpage, use the browser’s full-page screenshot feature: Microsoft Edge offers a full-page capture, and Firefox offers Save full page. For a document or app window that scrolls, use a scrolling-capture utility such as ShareX or PicPick instead. These are different jobs: browser capture is the simplest route for a webpage, while a utility must scroll and join visible frames to capture other windows.
Choose the right method for what you need to capture
First decide whether the content is a webpage open in a browser or something else, such as a document, list, or panel inside an application. A full-page browser capture is designed to save the webpage beyond the visible viewport. A scrolling-capture utility works by selecting a region, scrolling through it, and combining successive captures; that makes it useful for content outside a browser but more vulnerable to changes between frames.

Capture a full webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage you want to save in Edge and wait for the part you need to capture to load.
- Open Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu or from Edge Settings, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose the full-page capture option. The browser captures beyond the currently visible screen.
- Copy the resulting image or save it, depending on the controls shown in your version of Edge.
Microsoft describes Edge Screenshot as a way to capture a full webpage, including parts that would otherwise require scrolling. The feature’s availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version, so the exact menu wording or availability may differ. If you do not see Screenshot in the right-click menu or Settings, try the keyboard shortcut; if it is still unavailable, use another supported browser or a scrolling-capture utility.
Capture a full webpage in Firefox
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Open the Screenshot tool and select Save full page.
- Save the downloaded image, or use the available copy-to-clipboard action if you want to paste it into another application.
Choose Save visible only when you want the part currently shown in the browser window. Firefox’s downloaded screenshots are image files. Its full-page option is a browser capture, so it is the natural choice for a webpage rather than a separate application window.

Capture a scrolling document or app window with ShareX
- Open ShareX from its main window or tray menu.
- Choose Capture → Scrolling capture.
- Select the region containing the content you want. Keep the selection focused on the scrolling area rather than including unrelated fixed sidebars or footers.
- Allow ShareX to scroll and combine the successive captures. Review the resulting image when it is displayed.
ShareX documents scrolling capture for webpages and documents that extend beyond the visible screen. Its status indication distinguishes a successful result (green), partial success (yellow), and failure to combine the initial captures (red). Treat the output as something to inspect, especially when the target changes as it scrolls; the tool cannot guarantee a perfect stitch for every app or page.
Capture a scrolling window with PicPick
- Open PicPick and choose its Scrolling Window capture mode.
- Select the scrollable window or content area to capture and let PicPick process it.
- Choose the available destination that suits your task: open the result in PicPick Editor, save it automatically, or copy it to the clipboard.
PicPick lists webpages, documents, lists, and panels among the typical uses for Scrolling Window. Use this mode when the target is a scrollable window rather than only the visible screen. The documented feature description does not establish that it will work perfectly with every application or dynamic layout.

Why a scrolling capture can be incomplete or distorted
Browser full-page capture and stitched scrolling capture have different failure modes. A browser’s full-page tool captures a webpage through the browser feature. A utility such as ShareX scrolls through the target and joins multiple frames, so differences between frames can show up as seams, missing sections, or duplicated content.
- Fixed or static page elements: A sticky header, sidebar, or footer can appear in multiple frames or disrupt alignment. In ShareX, narrow the selection to the content area and exclude fixed elements where possible.
- Animation or content that changes while scrolling: Successive frames may not show the same layout or state. If you can, wait for movement to stop before capturing; do not assume every animated page can be stitched cleanly.
- Hover effects: A pointer resting over content can trigger a visual change that affects frame matching. Move it away from hover-sensitive content before starting the capture.
- Partial or failed stitching: Check ShareX’s status indicator and inspect the result. A partial-success or failure indication means you should not treat the image as a complete record; try a narrower selection or a browser’s full-page feature when the target is a webpage.
Why Windows Snipping Tool is not the long-page option
Microsoft’s documented Snipping Tool image modes for Windows 10 and Windows 11 are freeform, rectangle, window, and full screen. The documentation reviewed does not list a scrolling mode. Pressing Windows+Shift+S opens the screenshot overlay, but that is not a documented way to capture content below the visible screen. Use it for a visible screen area, not as the first choice for a long webpage or document.

Pick based on output and page behavior
For a webpage, start with the browser that already has it open: Edge’s full-page Screenshot or Firefox’s Save full page avoids manually selecting a region and stitching frames. For a document or application panel, ShareX or PicPick offers a scrolling mode. The practical trade-off is that browser tools are scoped to webpages, while region-based utilities can address more kinds of windows but may be affected by fixed elements, animation, and hover changes.
Use the available output workflow as part of your choice. Firefox lets you download the image or copy it; ShareX displays its combined result; PicPick documents opening in its editor, automatic saving, or copying to the clipboard. If you only need a visible slice rather than a scrolling capture, a normal visible-area screenshot is simpler.

Quick troubleshooting
- Edge does not show Screenshot: Try Ctrl+Shift+S or check the page’s right-click menu and Edge Settings. Feature availability and controls can vary by browser version, device type, or market.
- The image ends at the visible viewport: Use the full-page option in Edge or Firefox rather than a visible-area screenshot or Windows Snipping Tool.
- A document or application window is not captured as one long image: Use ShareX Capture → Scrolling capture or PicPick Scrolling Window; browser full-page capture is for webpages.
- A stitched image has repeated or misaligned content: In ShareX, reduce the selected region to the scrolling content, exclude fixed sidebars or footers, and move the pointer away from hover-sensitive areas. Animation or changing content can still affect the result.
