For a long webpage, use Microsoft Edge: open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, review the result, then copy or save it. Windows 10’s Snipping Tool does not document a scrolling mode, so use Edge for webpages and a scrolling utility such as ShareX or PicPick for other scrollable windows.

Capture an entire webpage with Microsoft Edge

Edge is the simplest Windows 10 method because its Screenshot/Web Capture command can include content below the visible viewport. Microsoft describes it as capturing the parts of a webpage that would otherwise require scrolling.

  1. Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for the page to finish loading.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open Edge’s Screenshot or Web Capture command from the browser menu.
  3. Select Capture full page.
  4. Review the resulting long image. Scroll through it inside the preview to check that the top, middle and bottom sections are present.
  5. Use the preview controls to copy the image or save it to your computer.

What this method is designed for

Edge’s full-page command is intended for webpages, not every application with a scrollbar. It captures the page as a continuous image, including sections that are outside the current viewport. The exact availability and behavior can vary by device type, market and Edge version, so the command may not appear identically on every Windows 10 installation.

If the keyboard shortcut is unavailable

Open Edge’s Screenshot/Web Capture command through the browser interface and look for Capture full page. If that option is absent, your browser build or environment may not expose the feature. In that case, use a scrolling capture utility for the target window, or capture the page through an API as described later.

#1 Best Overall

Capture a scrollable document or application window

When the target is a PDF viewer, document window or another scrollable desktop application rather than a normal webpage, a dedicated scrolling tool is more appropriate. Two documented options are ShareX and PicPick.

ShareX scrolling capture

ShareX’s scrolling-capture workflow is designed to capture an entire webpage or document that extends beyond the visible screen. It scrolls through the selected area, takes successive captures and stitches them into one image.

  1. Start ShareX’s scrolling-capture function.
  2. Select the specific scrollable region or window you want to record.
  3. Allow the capture process to scroll until it reaches the end of the content.
  4. Open the finished image and inspect every transition between captured sections.

Select the correct scrollable region before starting. If a window contains nested panels, a sidebar or an embedded viewer, choosing the wrong region can produce a partial image. ShareX’s documentation establishes the scrolling capability, but no universal success rate is published for every application.

PicPick Scrolling Window

PicPick provides a guided Scrolling Window mode alongside full-screen, window and region captures. It is useful when you want a dedicated capture menu and an editor instead of a browser-only command.

Why Snipping Tool is not the primary scrolling solution

Windows 10’s built-in Snipping Tool/Snip & Sketch guidance documents four capture types: rectangular, free-form, window and full-screen. A capture is copied into the Snipping Tool window for editing, saving and sharing. Those modes describe the visible screen or a selected region; Microsoft’s guidance does not list a scrolling or full-webpage mode.

That means Snipping Tool remains useful for a single viewport, a dialog or a selected rectangle, but it is not the documented way to capture content below the fold. Use Edge’s Capture full page for a webpage, or ShareX/PicPick when the scrollable content belongs to another application.

Choose the right method

Target Best first choice Setup Main control Important limitation
Webpage open in Edge Edge Screenshot → Capture full page Built into the browser One command captures the page beyond the viewport Availability and behavior can vary by device, market and browser version
PDF viewer or scrollable desktop document ShareX scrolling capture Install and run a capture utility Select the scrollable region and stitch successive views Wrong region selection can cause missed or duplicated content
Scrollable application window with a guided GUI PicPick Scrolling Window Install and run PicPick Guided scrolling-window capture and editor Supported applications and licensing should be checked before use
Single visible screen or region Snipping Tool/Snip & Sketch Built into Windows 10 Rectangular, free-form, window or full-screen capture No documented scrolling/full-page mode

Reliability and quality checks

Inspect the seams

Scrolling capture is a stitching process. Review the entire image at a readable zoom and look for repeated lines, missing paragraphs, abrupt jumps or a bottom section that was never captured. This check matters most with ShareX and PicPick, where the tool must coordinate scrolling with repeated screen captures.

Confirm the scrollable area

A browser page, an embedded document viewer and a desktop application may expose different scroll containers. If the result stops early, the selected region may not be the area that actually scrolls. Re-run the capture with the document pane or page body selected instead of the surrounding window.

Do not assume a universal height limit

The cited documentation does not publish a universal maximum image height, completion time or success percentage for Edge, ShareX or PicPick. Treat each capture as something to verify rather than assuming that every page or application will produce a perfect result.

Plan for dynamic pages

Pages that change while you scroll can produce inconsistent sections. Let the page settle before starting, and inspect sections containing menus, animations or dynamically loaded content. If a page cannot be represented reliably as one browser capture, a sequence of ordinary screenshots may be more faithful than a stitched image.

Troubleshooting common failures

“Capture full page” is missing in Edge

Feature availability can vary by browser version, device type and market. Open the Screenshot/Web Capture command from Edge’s interface rather than relying only on the shortcut. If the full-page option still does not appear, use ShareX or PicPick for a scrollable window.

The capture contains only the visible viewport

Check that you selected Capture full page, not a region or visible-area capture. For an application window, switch to a scrolling-capture mode; Snipping Tool’s window and full-screen modes do not document below-viewport capture.

Sections are duplicated or missing

Stop and repeat the capture after selecting the actual scrollable pane. With ShareX or PicPick, nested scrollbars can make the outer window move while the document remains fixed, or vice versa. Always inspect the stitched image before distributing it.

The tool stops before the document ends

Some applications expose only part of their content to automated scrolling. Try selecting the document body rather than the frame around it. If the application still does not cooperate, capture several deliberate regions or export the document through its own save or print function instead of forcing one stitched screenshot.

The result is too large to handle

A full-page image can be much taller than a normal screenshot. Save the original first, then create a reduced copy for email or web publishing. Keep the original available so text remains recoverable if the reduced version becomes difficult to read.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, so you can capture a long webpage without configuring a Windows browser session. Its full-page mode loads lazy images, and you can also target one element with a CSS selector, choose a viewport or device preset, set a retina scale, wait for a selector, delay or network idle, and apply custom CSS or JavaScript.

Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets. Each step can be turned off. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed; the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.

cURL

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for parameters and response details.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Python

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

Options useful for long-page captures

  • Full-page capture: include content below the viewport and load lazy images.
  • Element capture: capture one CSS-selected element instead of the entire page.
  • Rendering: choose a device preset or custom viewport, dark mode, retina scale, transparent background or image resizing.
  • Page control: add custom CSS or JavaScript, click an element, hide selectors, or wait for a selector, delay or network idle.
  • Network and identity: block ads, trackers, requests or resource types; send custom headers, cookies, a user agent or Authorization; set timezone and geolocation.
  • Delivery: use a cache TTL, signed links for public <img> tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call, the usage API or the OpenAPI specification.

ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools, allowing Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients to request captures directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a scrolling tool capture a window with several nested scrollbars?

It may capture the wrong pane or stop early. Select the pane that actually moves through the document, then inspect the stitched image for repeated or missing sections.

Is there a published maximum height or success rate for Windows 10 scrolling screenshots?

No universal maximum height, completion time or success percentage is published for the methods described. Verify each finished image instead of relying on an assumed limit.
