Open the LinkedIn post, position it on screen, and use your device’s built-in screenshot shortcut. On iPhone, press the appropriate Power and volume or Home-button combination; on Android, use Power + Volume Down; on Windows, press Windows + Shift + S; on Mac, press Shift + Command + 3. LinkedIn does not provide a separate screenshot button. The exact controls can vary by device and software version.
Capture a LinkedIn post on an iPhone
- Open the LinkedIn app or website and navigate to the post.
- Scroll until the text, image, video frame, author name and any other necessary context are visible. Close overlays that would appear in the image.
- On an iPhone with Face ID, press and release Power and Volume Up at the same time.
- On an iPhone with a Home button, press and release Home and Power together.
- A thumbnail preview appears at the lower-left corner. Tap it to crop or annotate, or swipe it left to dismiss the preview.
- Find the completed image in the Photos app.
These are the controls listed by LinkedIn Help. Button names and preview behavior can change with iOS versions, so use the current controls on your model if they differ. LinkedIn’s mobile screenshot instructions cover both iPhone layouts.
Capture a LinkedIn post on Android
- Open the post and position it exactly as you want it captured.
- Press and hold Power and Volume Down together.
- If that shortcut does not work, press and hold the Power button for a few seconds, then tap Screenshot when the system menu appears.
- Depending on the phone, the preview can appear at the lower-left or along the top of the screen.
- Open Photos or Gallery to find the saved image.
Android controls vary among Samsung, Google, OnePlus, Motorola and other manufacturers. If neither method works, LinkedIn recommends checking the phone manufacturer’s support site rather than assuming the LinkedIn app is blocking the capture. See the official Android steps.
Capture a LinkedIn post on a Windows PC
- Open the post in LinkedIn on your desktop browser and adjust the browser zoom or window size if necessary.
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + S.
- When the screen dims, drag over the part of the LinkedIn post you need. The rectangular selection is usually the best choice for a clean post image.
- The capture is copied to the clipboard, and a notification opens Snipping Tool when selected.
- In Snipping Tool, choose Save as and select JPG or PNG.
If you only need to paste the image into an email or document, you can paste directly from the clipboard without saving a file. LinkedIn documents this workflow in its computer screenshot guidance.

Capture a LinkedIn post on a Mac
- Open the post in LinkedIn and place the browser window so the desired content is visible.
- Press Shift + Command + 3.
- macOS saves the screenshot to the desktop by default, unless your Screenshot settings use a different destination.
The Mac shortcut captures the entire screen. If you need only the post, open the image and crop it afterward, or use macOS’s screenshot controls to select a region before capturing. LinkedIn’s documented shortcut is Shift + Command + 3.
Make the screenshot readable and useful
Show enough context
Include the author or company name, the post date when visible, the complete sentence or paragraph you are quoting, and any image caption that changes the meaning. A tightly cropped image may look neat but can be difficult to verify later.
Capture long posts in sections
A normal device screenshot captures only what is currently visible. For a long post, take several overlapping images rather than shrinking the page until text becomes unreadable. Keep a small overlap between sections so the sequence is easy to follow.
Use markup sparingly
Crop out unrelated browser tabs, private notifications and account details. If you annotate, use arrows or boxes that do not cover the words you need readers to inspect. Keep an untouched original when the image may be used as evidence.

Check image quality before sending
- Zoom in to confirm small text is legible.
- Make sure no notification banner or chat window obscures the post.
- Check that the screenshot did not capture passwords, direct messages, email addresses or other private information.
- For print or archival use, prefer the original PNG when available; JPG can create compression artifacts around text.
Screenshot or post link: which should you use?
A screenshot is a static image. It works when the recipient needs to see the post inside a slide, report, ticket or design review, or when the layout must be preserved. A link is better when the recipient should open the live post, read comments, follow updates or verify the author.
To copy a LinkedIn post’s unique URL, open the post’s More menu. On desktop, choose Copy link to post. In the iOS app, choose Share via, then Copy. On Android, choose Share via, then Copy to clipboard. LinkedIn describes these paths in Finding the URL for shared content.
| Goal | Better output | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Place the post in a report or presentation | Screenshot | Preserves a visual record that can be viewed without opening LinkedIn. |
| Let someone read comments or interact with the post | Post URL | Opens the original page, subject to its visibility. |
| Document what appeared at a particular time | Screenshot plus URL | The image records the view while the URL identifies the source. |
Visibility, sharing and privacy
A copied URL does not guarantee that every recipient can open the post. LinkedIn lists visibility options including Anyone, Connections only and Group. Public sharing outside LinkedIn also depends on public-profile visibility settings. The relevant settings are explained in Visibility of shared posts and Sharing public posts on and off LinkedIn.
A screenshot is a copy of what was visible on your screen; it does not change the original post’s visibility. Before publishing or forwarding it, inspect names, profile photos, contact details, private comments and information from a closed group. If the audience needs the original context, send the URL as well as the image.

Does LinkedIn notify someone when you screenshot a post?
LinkedIn’s official help pages reviewed for this guide explain how to take screenshots and how to copy a post URL, but they do not state whether the post author receives a notification when another person captures a screenshot. Therefore, do not rely on a categorical “yes” or “no” claim. If notification behavior matters for a sensitive situation, check LinkedIn’s current help documentation and the app’s current behavior before proceeding.
Troubleshooting common capture problems
The shortcut does nothing on Android
Try Power + Volume Down again, making sure both buttons are pressed simultaneously. Then use the Power-button menu’s Screenshot command. Because manufacturers customize Android, consult the phone maker’s support instructions if both methods fail.
The screenshot contains a black or blank area
Return to the post, wait for images or video frames to finish loading, and capture again. A browser extension, privacy setting or an application window can also prevent a region from rendering. If the blank area persists, capture the visible text separately and retain the post URL.
The post is cut off
Take multiple overlapping captures while scrolling. Do not rely on a single image that reduces the font to an unreadable size. For a post that changes while you work, record the capture time and save the URL.

Snipping Tool does not show the image
Windows + Shift + S copies the selected region to the clipboard and opens a notification. Select that notification to open Snipping Tool, or paste the clipboard contents directly into an image editor and save the file.
The Mac screenshot is saved somewhere unexpected
Search the desktop first. If it is not there, open macOS screenshot options and check the selected save location; the destination can be changed from the default.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Or skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo
For developers who need an image of a publicly reachable LinkedIn post URL in an automated workflow, ScreenshotNeo is the screenshot API to try first: it removes cookie banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and has the lowest paid plan listed here. It is not a replacement for signing in to LinkedIn or bypassing access controls; the URL must be reachable by the capture request.
ScreenshotNeo’s API accepts a GET request at https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot. The examples below use a placeholder LinkedIn URL; replace it with the post URL you are authorized to capture. Full parameter documentation is at ScreenshotNeo’s API documentation.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.linkedin.com/posts/example-post -o linkedin-post.webp
Python
import requests
post_url = "https://www.linkedin.com/posts/example-post"
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": post_url},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("linkedin-post.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const postUrl = 'https://www.linkedin.com/posts/example-post';
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: postUrl });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const image = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('linkedin-post.webp', image));
Options useful for post captures
You can request PNG, JPEG or WebP output; choose a viewport or one of 12 device presets; set a retina scale; capture the full page with lazy-loaded images; target one element with a CSS selector; apply dark mode; add custom CSS or JavaScript; click an element before capture; hide selectors; wait for a selector, a delay or network idle; block ads, trackers, requests or resource types; provide custom headers, cookies, user-agent or Authorization; set timezone and geolocation; use a transparent background; resize the image; and choose a cache TTL. ScreenshotNeo also supports PDFs with paper size, margins, landscape mode and page ranges, signed links for public <img> tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration.

Billing and response checks
Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed. Each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. For batch jobs, webhooks and production monitoring, retain those headers or the job result so your application can distinguish a usable image from a failed capture.
