Choose the output you actually need
“Full webpage screenshot” can mean two different things. Decide first whether you need an image of the page or an offline copy that preserves webpage data.

Apple’s Mac screenshot documentation describes screen, region, and window/menu targets. It does not document a built-in shortcut that stitches an entire scrollable webpage into one image. Safari’s Web Archive and Page Source are save formats, not a full-page screenshot image.

- Press Shift–Command–3.
- Find the resulting screenshot in the configured screenshot destination.
This captures the current display, so content below the browser’s viewport is not included. It also includes other visible windows, the menu bar, and the Dock when they are on screen.
Capture a browser window or a precise area
Selected area
- Press Shift–Command–4.
- Drag around the content you want, then release.
Window or menu
- Press Shift–Command–4.
- Press Space to switch to window/menu capture.
- Select the browser window or menu.
These methods are useful for a visible browser view, dialog, or error message. They do not turn a long page into a single scrolling image.
Use the Screenshot app for capture settings
- Press Shift–Command–5 to open Screenshot.
- Choose a capture mode from the toolbar.
- Open Options to set the timer, save location, floating-thumbnail behavior, and whether the pointer is visible.
On supported Mac models running macOS Tahoe 26 or later, Apple’s guide says the Screenshot app can choose SDR (PNG) or HDR (HEIF). Those format choices affect ordinary screen captures; they do not add a documented full-scroll webpage mode.
Capture a full webpage in Firefox
Firefox provides the documented workflow for a complete webpage image. The important distinction is the final choice: Save full page includes content below the visible viewport, while Save visible captures only what you can currently see.

- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the part of the page you need to be available.
- Open the page context menu and choose Take Screenshot. You can also press Command–Shift–S.
- In the screenshot controls, choose Save full page.
- Download the image, or use the option to copy the capture to the clipboard.
The resulting file is an image of the page rather than a Safari Web Archive or HTML source file. If you only need the current viewport, choose Save visible instead.
When a full-page image is the wrong deliverable
- Choose Safari File > Save As > Web Archive when you need a saved page with graphics and links for later access.
- Choose Page Source when you need only the HTML source.
- Apple notes that some webpages may prevent saving items shown on the page, so a Web Archive is not a guaranteed visual replica.
Make the result readable and shareable
Use the right capture target
For a long article, documentation page, invoice, or landing page, use Save full page rather than a screen or window shortcut. For a bug report showing a browser dialog, use a selected-area or window capture so unrelated page content is not included.
Check the output before sending it
- Open the downloaded image and verify that the top and bottom of the page are present.
- Zoom in on small text; a very tall image can make text difficult to read in chat or email previews.
- Crop out unrelated tabs, bookmarks, or desktop content if you used a screen-wide capture.
- Remember that a screenshot is a visual record. It does not preserve clickable links, page structure, or source HTML.

Troubleshooting
The Mac shortcut captured only what I can see
That is expected: Shift–Command–3, Shift–Command–4, and Screenshot app modes target the display, a window, or a region. Open the page in Firefox and use Take Screenshot > Save full page for a scrolling webpage image.

Choose Save full page, not Save visible. The two controls produce different capture scopes.

I need a Safari file, not an image
Use File > Save As, then select Web Archive for graphics and links or Page Source for HTML only. Neither option is described as a full-page screenshot image.
The saved Safari page is incomplete
Apple notes that some webpages may prevent saving items displayed on the page. If your requirement is a visual record, use Firefox’s full-page screenshot workflow instead.
The API response is not the page image I expected
Check the response headers, including X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed, to see whether the result was a clean capture, a bot check, a blank page, a timeout, a failed load, or a cache hit. Confirm that the URL is correctly URL-encoded and that your access key is present. For slow pages, the Python example allows a 90-second request timeout; asynchronous jobs and webhook delivery are available when you need a job-based workflow.

Press Command–Shift–S in Firefox, then choose Save full page.
Does a Safari Web Archive count as a screenshot?
No. A Web Archive is a saved webpage format containing graphics and links. Safari’s other choice, Page Source, saves HTML. Neither is described as a full-page screenshot image.
