To capture a page that extends below the browser window, use the browser’s full-page screenshot command—not a normal screen snip. In Microsoft Edge, open the page, choose Screenshot from the right-click menu (or press Ctrl+Shift+S), select the full-page option, then copy or save the result. In Firefox, open its screenshot tool and choose Save full page. A full-page image is different from a screenshot of the visible screen and from a printed, multi-page PDF.
Menu names and availability can vary by browser version, device type and market. The steps below separate those outcomes so you can choose the right one.
First choose the kind of capture you need

A full-page screenshot captures the webpage’s document area beyond the current viewport. It does not normally include your browser tabs, address bar or operating-system desktop. If you need those, use a visible-screen or window snip instead.
Capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge
Microsoft documents Edge’s Screenshot feature as able to capture an entire webpage, including content that would otherwise require scrolling. It also supports a selected area and markup.

- Open the target webpage in Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Screenshot. If that command is not shown, press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose the option for a full-page capture rather than a selected region.
- Review the resulting image. Use the available markup tools if you need to highlight or draw on it.
- Copy the image to the clipboard or save it to a file.
If the Screenshot command or full-page option is absent, check that Edge is current and try the keyboard shortcut. Microsoft notes that feature availability and functionality can vary by device, market and browser version, so an administrator policy or a different release may present a different menu.
Save a full page in Firefox
Firefox’s screenshot interface exposes two deliberately different choices: Save full page and Save visible. Select the first when you need the complete document.
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Launch the screenshot interface, for example with the page context menu’s Take Screenshot command when it is available in your version.
- Choose Save full page, not Save visible.
- Download the image or copy it to the clipboard.
If you select Save visible, Firefox captures only the current viewport. Scroll position therefore matters for that mode, but not for Save full page.
Use Firefox Developer Tools for repeatable captures
Developer Tools provide a second Firefox route for people who need a command, a delay or a CSS selector.
Enable the toolbox screenshot button
- Open Firefox Developer Tools.
- Open the Developer Tools settings and find Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Use the new camera/screenshot control in the toolbox to capture the page.
Run the Web Console command
Open the Web Console and run:
:screenshot --fullpageMozilla documents optional parameters for this command, including a delay, device-pixel-ratio (DPR), clipboard output, a filename and a CSS selector. A selector is useful when you want a particular element rather than the whole document; a delay gives scripts time to finish rendering before the capture.

For example, a developer can combine the full-page flag with a delay or filename according to the syntax shown by Firefox’s own command help in the console. Verify the command options in your installed Firefox version because Developer Tools labels and supported flags can change.
Why Windows Snipping Tool is not a full-page webpage capture
Press Windows+Shift+S to open Snipping Tool. It offers rectangular, freeform, window and full-screen snips. Microsoft defines Full screen as an immediate snapshot of the entire screen; it does not automatically scroll through a long webpage. Use Edge or Firefox’s full-page feature when the requirement is one image containing content below the screen.
Snipping Tool is still the right choice when you need a dialog, a browser window, a selected rectangle or whatever is visible at one moment.

Print a webpage when a PDF or document layout is better
Choose the browser’s Print command (or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS) when you need pages, selectable text or a document that can be printed. In Edge, inspect the preview and consider the Background graphics option if colors or background images are important. The print preview can differ from the live webpage because print styles, page breaks and margins are applied.
Printing is usually preferable for contracts, reports and reading copies. A full-page image is preferable when visual fidelity, a single canvas or annotation matters more than text selection.

Chrome, Safari and extensions: avoid assuming the same menu
The exact built-in desktop sequence for a full-page capture in Chrome was not verified for this guide, and Safari’s desktop workflow can differ by release. Do not treat Edge or Firefox instructions as universal Chrome or Safari instructions.
If you consider a screenshot extension, inspect the specific publisher, requested permissions, privacy policy and export formats before installing it. A store listing is a vendor claim, not an independent security or quality review. For a managed computer, an administrator may also restrict extensions or Developer Tools.
Prepare the page so the capture is useful
Let dynamic content finish
Many pages load images, charts or sections while you scroll. Wait until the content you need is present before starting a built-in capture. If a page reveals content only after interaction, perform that interaction first; a screenshot tool cannot infer which tabs, accordions or dialogs you intended to open.
Handle cookie banners, popups and chat controls
Dismiss consent dialogs, newsletter prompts and chat widgets before capturing if they obscure content. A normal browser screenshot records what is on the page at capture time, including overlays. If a banner returns after a reload, accept or configure it again before repeating the capture.
Check fixed headers and repeated elements
Sticky navigation bars can appear in multiple positions in a long image or cover text while the page is stitched. If the result is hard to read, try the browser’s capture again after collapsing the header, hiding an overlay or using Firefox’s selector-oriented Developer Tools command.
Expect large files for very long pages
A tall page at a high device-pixel ratio can produce a large image. Save it in a format your recipient can open, and consider a PDF when pagination and selectable text are more practical than one extremely tall bitmap.

The capture stops at the visible viewport
You likely selected a visible-area command. In Edge, reopen Screenshot and choose full page. In Firefox, choose Save full page, not Save visible. Snipping Tool’s full-screen mode cannot substitute for either browser feature.
A popup or consent panel covers the result

Images or sections are missing

The page looks different in print preview
This is expected when print styles, margins or page breaks change the layout. Turn on Edge’s Background graphics when appropriate, or use a full-page image when the screen design itself must be preserved.
The Firefox command or toolbox button is unavailable
Confirm that Developer Tools are enabled and that the screenshot button was added under Available Toolbox Buttons. Firefox versions and enterprise policies can change which controls appear; use the standard screenshot interface if the command route is restricted.
An automated request reports a failed load or bot check
