To capture a complete Twitter (now X) thread, open it on X, expand it with Show this thread if that control appears, then use a full-page screenshot—not an ordinary screen capture. In Firefox, choose Take Screenshot → Save full page. Before sharing the file, check that it includes the first and last posts. A full-page screenshot preserves the rendered browser page; a thread-specific image may crop away the surrounding interface.
What a full-thread screenshot needs to include
A thread is a sequence of connected posts by one person. X provides a Show this thread control in relevant views to expand a thread that is not fully displayed. In a followed account’s timeline, threads of four or more posts are truncated and can offer this control; posts in a profile timeline can also offer it. The exact view matters, so look at the thread itself rather than assuming every appearance of a post is already expanded.
There are two different capture goals:
- Full-page screenshot: captures the page as the browser renders it, potentially including X’s navigation and other page interface along with the posts.
- Thread-specific image: aims to show the thread without the whole surrounding page. A dedicated tool may offer this, but its output and behavior depend on that tool.
A screenshot of only the visible screen is neither of these if the thread continues below the fold. Expand the thread first, choose a full-page or thread-specific capture method, and inspect the resulting file for the beginning and end of the conversation.
Firefox: save the expanded X page as a full-page image
- Open the thread on X in Firefox. If it is collapsed, select Show this thread.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page. Do not choose the visible-area option if you need posts below the current viewport.
- Save the image, open it, and verify that it starts with the first post and ends with the final post you intended to capture.
Firefox’s screenshot feature distinguishes between the full page and the currently visible portion. The distinction is important: selecting the wrong option can produce a valid screenshot file that simply does not contain the entire thread.

Alternative: Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox also has a Developer Tools route. In the Developer Tools settings, enable the Take a screenshot of the entire page toolbox button, then use that screenshot control. Mozilla documents that this method saves the image in the browser’s Downloads directory. Use whichever Firefox workflow is easier to repeat; in either case, inspect the saved result rather than relying on the button’s label alone.
Chrome: use the full-size screenshot command cautiously
A Chrome Help Community answer describes this workflow: open the page, open DevTools, open the command menu, and run Capture full size screenshot. Treat it as a route to try, not as confirmed current official Chrome documentation: the available guidance is a community answer, and Google notes that community content may be unverified or out of date. Chrome’s installed version may affect what you see.
- Open the X thread and expand it with Show this thread if available.
- Open Chrome DevTools and its command menu.
- Search for and run Capture full size screenshot, if that command is present.
- Open the downloaded image and check that the first and final posts are present.
If the command is missing or behaves differently, do not assume that the thread itself is the problem. Use Firefox’s documented full-page workflow or capture the visible page in sections and verify that no posts are omitted. X lists recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge among the mainstream browsers it supports and advises keeping both the browser and operating system up to date.

When a thread-specific capture tool makes sense
A Chrome Web Store listing for Tweet Screenshot advertises a feature that merges consecutive posts by the same author into one tall image. That may be useful when the desired deliverable is a single thread-focused image rather than a capture of the entire X page. The listing is the source for those claims; they are not independent test results.
Before installing an extension, review its current permissions and privacy information in the listing. The listing’s claims that processing happens locally and that the extension makes no network requests are vendor-provided claims, not independently verified findings. An extension is optional: Firefox’s built-in full-page capture does not require installing one.
| Method | What it aims to capture | Trade-off to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Firefox Save full page | The rendered page, including the expanded thread and surrounding interface | Built into Firefox; choose the full-page option and inspect the file. |
| Chrome DevTools command | A full-size page screenshot, if the command is available in the installed version | The described route comes from a community answer, not confirmed current official documentation. |
| Tweet Screenshot extension | A tall image merging consecutive posts by the same author, according to its listing | Third-party software; check current permissions and privacy claims before installing. |
Check completeness before sharing
Do a quick visual audit of the image at a readable zoom level. Confirm that it contains the opening post, the final post in the thread, and the connecting posts between them. If you used a full-page capture, also check that the page has not been cut off at a point that leaves the ending missing. If the image is very tall, inspect it at more than one zoom level or scroll through the file; a tiny thumbnail can make omitted posts hard to notice.

When posts are absent, return to X and check whether Show this thread was available and selected. Then repeat the capture with the full-page option or use a thread-specific tool whose output you can inspect. Do not treat “full page” as proof that every post in a conversation was included: the capture describes the rendered page, while the thread may still have been collapsed.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. If you can open the X thread at a URL, its API can return a screenshot; use the full-page option when you need the whole rendered page, and confirm the output includes every post. The provided request uses the API’s one-call URL pattern; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation for the full-page and other capture options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://x.com/USERNAME/status/POST_ID -o thread.webp
Replace the example X address with the thread URL and set your API key. ScreenshotNeo’s clean-shot features accept cookie or consent banners like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and whether the request was billed. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. Troubleshooting
The image stops before the thread ends
The thread may not have been expanded, or the tool may have captured only the visible viewport. Return to X, select Show this thread if it appears, and repeat using Save full page in Firefox or the full-size command if available in Chrome. Verify the end of the new file.
The capture includes the page interface, not just the posts
That is expected from a full-page screenshot: it captures the rendered page, which can include X’s surrounding interface. If you need a thread-only image, consider a dedicated thread-capture feature such as the one advertised by Tweet Screenshot, while reviewing its current privacy information and permissions before installation.
The Chrome command is not available
The described Chrome workflow is based on community guidance, and the command may not be present in your version. Try Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot instead, or use another available capture route and inspect the output. Keep Chrome and your operating system current, as X advises for supported browsers.

The screenshot looks complete at a glance, but a post may be missing
Open the saved image at a size that lets you read the post sequence. Check both endpoints and scan between them. If anything is missing, go back to the X page and confirm expansion before taking another screenshot; the “full page” label alone does not establish that the thread had been fully shown.
An extension asks for permissions you do not expect
Pause before installing it. Read the current Chrome Web Store permission and privacy information, and decide whether those permissions are appropriate for your use. Do not treat a listing’s local-processing or no-network claims as independently verified facts.
Practical limits and privacy choices
- Browser capture: avoids installing a thread-specific extension, but the result can include page interface and must be checked for missing posts.
- Third-party extension: may produce a more thread-focused image, but adds software and permission considerations. Its listing’s feature and privacy statements are claims from the listing.
- Automated screenshot API: can fit repeatable developer workflows, but a captured page still needs to display the thread and the saved result should be checked. An API request does not remove the need to confirm completeness.
For a one-off capture, start with the browser’s built-in full-page tool. Choose a specialized extension or an API when its output and workflow better fit the task, and make the privacy decision based on current product information rather than unverified assumptions.

Can I capture a Twitter thread without installing an extension?
Yes. Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot feature can save the expanded X page without a thread-capture extension.
Does a full-page screenshot guarantee that every post in the thread is included?
No. It captures the page as rendered, so expand the thread first and inspect the saved image for the first and last posts.
Will the screenshot contain only the thread?
Not necessarily. A full-page browser capture can include surrounding X interface; a thread-specific tool may produce a more focused image.
