These tools capture content below the visible window; a normal desktop or Snipping Tool snip captures only the screen area you select.
What a full-page screenshot captures
A full-page screenshot is one image of an entire webpage, including content that appears only after scrolling. It is different from:
- Full-screen capture: an image of the current monitor view.
- Window capture: the visible browser window.
- Rectangular snip: a selected region of the current screen.
Microsoft’s Snipping Tool guidance documents screen, window and rectangular modes, but does not describe automatically scrolling through a webpage. Use the browser’s full-page feature when you need the content below the fold.
Microsoft Edge: capture the whole webpage
- Open the webpage in Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open Edge’s Screenshot command from the browser controls or page context menu; labels can vary by interface version.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the generated image, then use the displayed save or copy control.
Edge describes this Screenshot feature as capturing the full webpage, including content that would otherwise require scrolling. Microsoft’s current feature page is Screenshot Tool in Microsoft Edge, and its learning guide shows the same Capture full page choice at How to Take a Screenshot of a Webpage Using Microsoft Edge.

If the shortcut does not open Screenshot
- Open the Edge menu and look for Screenshot, or right-click the page and look for the screenshot command.
- Confirm that Edge, rather than another application, has focus.
- Install pending Edge updates if the command is absent, then reopen the browser.
- If an organization manages Edge, an administrator may have changed available commands.
Firefox: save a full page
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Open the page context menu and select Take Screenshot. You can add a Screenshot button to the toolbar if you use this command often.
- Select Save full page.
- Download the resulting image to your chosen folder.
Mozilla documents this workflow in Take screenshots in Firefox. If you see options for a visible area or a selected region, choose Save full page for a scrolling capture.
Adding Firefox’s Screenshot button
Open Firefox’s toolbar customization screen, find the Screenshot control, and drag it to the toolbar. The exact customization layout can change between Firefox releases, but the command still leads to Save full page when the page supports it.
What about Google Chrome?
Chrome has software options for full-page capture, including extensions in the Chrome Web Store. For example, the listing for Full Page Screen Capture describes capturing a full webpage and exporting an image or PDF.

Extensions run with permissions on pages you visit. Before installing one, check the publisher, requested permissions, privacy disclosure, recent maintenance and user feedback. Extension availability and behavior can change. The documented material used for this guide does not establish a current official Chrome-native full-page procedure, so use Edge or Firefox when you want a built-in, documented route.
How to get a complete result
Load important content first
Some pages fetch images, cards or text only as you scroll. Scroll through the page once, wait for images and embeds to finish loading, then run the full-page command. Inspect the saved image afterward instead of assuming every dynamic element rendered.
Check fixed headers and overlays
A sticky navigation bar may appear repeatedly or cover content in the output. Cookie notices, newsletter forms and chat widgets can also obscure sections. Dismiss overlays before capturing when possible. If the page remains obstructed, try the browser’s reader or print view only if preserving the original design is not important.
Watch nested scrolling areas
A page can contain an internal panel with its own scrollbar. A browser full-page command generally targets the document, not every independently scrolling panel. Scroll those panels manually and capture them separately if their contents are essential.

Verify long or authenticated pages
Very long documents, dashboards behind a login and pages with live data can behave differently from ordinary articles. Confirm that you are authorized to capture the content, keep the session active, and inspect the output for missing sections, blank image areas or stale data. The available browser guidance does not establish universal limits for page length, lazy-loaded images, nested scroll regions or authenticated pages.

The result stops at the visible viewport
You selected a screen, window or region command instead of the browser’s full-page option. Reopen Edge Screenshot or Firefox Take Screenshot and explicitly choose Capture full page or Save full page.
Images or sections are missing
Scroll through the page first, wait for lazy-loaded content, dismiss overlays and capture again. Check internal scroll panels separately. A blocked request, login expiry or script failure can also leave a blank region.

The page changes while you capture
Pause animations where possible, wait for network activity to settle and capture a stable version. Live dashboards and personalized pages may not produce identical images on successive attempts.
The file is difficult to read
A very tall image can be awkward to view or share. Save the original, then create a resized copy for messaging or use a PDF workflow when pagination is more useful. Do not overwrite the original before checking that all sections are present.

Do not upload confidential pages to an extension or service unless your organization permits it. For local browser captures, store files securely. For an API, review the provider’s controls, send only authorized URLs and avoid placing secrets directly in a public link.
Which method should you choose?
- Already use Edge: press Ctrl+Shift+S and choose Capture full page.
- Already use Firefox: choose Take Screenshot, then Save full page.
- Use Chrome occasionally: evaluate an extension’s permissions and maintenance before installation.
