Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →In Firefox on Windows, open your localhost page, press Ctrl+Shift+S (or right-click the page and choose Take Screenshot), select Save full page, then choose Download or Copy. Save visible captures only the current viewport. The steps below also cover Developer Tools, a repeatable Web Console command, and cases involving nested scroll areas or iframes.
The fastest method: Firefox’s built-in full-page capture
This works for local development URLs such as http://localhost:3000, http://127.0.0.1:5173, and local HTTPS sites that are already open in Firefox.
- Start your local web server and open the exact localhost URL in Firefox on Windows.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- In the screenshot controls, select Save full page in the upper-right corner. Do not choose Save visible; that option records only the current viewport.
- Select Download to save a PNG in Firefox’s normal download folder, or choose Copy to put the image on the clipboard.
Firefox names a downloaded file with the page title and the capture date/time. If your application has a meaningful document title, set it in the page’s <title> element before capturing so the filename is easier to identify.
Before you capture a localhost page
- Confirm the development server is running and that the page loads without a connection error.
- Use the same hostname and port your application expects.
localhostand127.0.0.1can behave differently when cookies, CORS rules, or host-based routing are involved. - Wait for client-side rendering, API requests, fonts, and images to finish. A full-page command captures the document as it exists at the moment you invoke it; it does not make unfinished application work complete.
- Scroll through the page once if your application loads content only after scrolling. This can trigger lazy loading before the screenshot.
Use Developer Tools when the screenshot button is missing
Firefox can expose a dedicated full-page screenshot button in Developer Tools.

- 14" diagonal, 1366x768 resolution, HD BrightView LED, Glossy NON-TOUCH Display
- Open Developer Tools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I.
- Open Developer Tools Settings (the gear icon).
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, check Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Close Settings. The screenshot button now appears in the Developer Tools toolbar.
- Click that button to save a full-page screenshot to your Downloads folder.
This route is useful on a workstation where the page context menu is disabled or where you want the capture control visible beside the other debugging tools.
Run a repeatable Web Console command
For repeat captures, Firefox’s Web Console helper avoids navigating the screenshot menus each time.
- Open Developer Tools and select the Console tab, or press Ctrl+Shift+K.
- Run the following command:
:screenshot page.png --fullpage
The --fullpage option includes content outside the current window bounds. Replace page.png with a filename that identifies the build, route, or test case, for example:
:screenshot checkout-dark.png --fullpage
The command is convenient for manual regression checks because the invocation can be kept in a test note or shell history. It still captures the current rendered state, so wait for asynchronous content before running it.
When an extension is worth considering
If the built-in capture does not handle your page’s structure, the Mozilla Add-ons listing for GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture describes support for complex pages, including inner scrollable elements and embedded iframes. The listing also says the extension requests access to localhost.

- Combo headphone/microphone jack - Noble Wedge Lock slot - HDMI; 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1
- Windows 11 Pro
Treat an extension as a fallback rather than the default: review its current permissions, publisher information, and availability before installing it. Browser extensions can change independently of Firefox, and localhost access is a sensitive permission for development projects.
Which Firefox method should you choose?
| Method | Setup effort | Output | Best use | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Take Screenshot > Save full page | Lowest | Download or clipboard | One-off captures | Captures the rendered document, not necessarily content hidden in a separate scroll container |
| Developer Tools screenshot button | Low after enabling one setting | Downloads folder | Teams that want a visible toolbox control | The button must be enabled in Available Toolbox Buttons |
Web Console :screenshot --fullpage |
Low | Named PNG file | Repeatable manual checks | You must run the command after the page is ready |
| GoFullPage extension | Installation and permission review | Extension-managed capture | Inner scroll areas or embedded iframes | Availability and permissions can change |
Handling difficult localhost layouts
Inner scrollable panels
A page can have a normal document scroll plus a dashboard panel with overflow: auto or overflow: scroll. Firefox’s built-in full-page action is designed around the document, so an inner panel may remain clipped to its visible height. Expand the panel temporarily with CSS, capture it separately, or use a tool that explicitly supports inner scrollable elements.
Embedded iframes
An iframe is a separate browsing context. Same-origin frames are easier to inspect and style from your application; cross-origin frames remain isolated by browser security rules. If an embedded frame is missing or clipped, capture that frame separately or use the extension fallback described above.
Lazy-loaded images and content
Trigger lazy loading before capture by scrolling through the page, or temporarily disable the lazy-loading behavior in your development build. Check the image areas in the saved PNG rather than assuming that a placeholder was replaced.
Sticky headers and fixed controls
Fixed-position elements can appear repeatedly or cover content in a long image. For a diagnostic capture, temporarily disable the fixed element in DevTools or add a development-only class that changes its positioning. Restore the original CSS after saving the screenshot.

Dynamic data and animations
Freeze the state you want to document: seed predictable data, wait for network requests to finish, and pause CSS or JavaScript animations when exact visual comparisons matter. A screenshot records one moment, so a loading spinner or rotating carousel can make two otherwise identical captures differ.
Troubleshooting Firefox full-page captures
“Take Screenshot” is not in the context menu
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S directly.
- Make sure you right-clicked the webpage, not a browser toolbar, a PDF viewer, or a privileged Firefox page.
- Open Developer Tools and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons.
The result contains only the visible viewport
Open the screenshot controls again and select Save full page. Save visible intentionally captures only what is on screen.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The bottom of the page is blank or missing
- Reload the localhost route and verify that the server did not return an error after the first screen.
- Wait for API calls, fonts, and images, then capture again.
- Scroll through lazy-loaded sections before invoking the capture.
- Inspect inner scroll containers and iframes; document-level full-page capture does not automatically expand every nested context.
The screenshot command reports an error
Run :screenshot page.png --fullpage in the Web Console for the page tab, not in a different tab or a browser-internal page. Check that the filename is writable and that Firefox has permission to save to its download location.
The page is extremely tall
Firefox does not publish a universal maximum page-height or success-rate figure for this feature. For very long documents, capture sections or routes separately and combine them in an image editor or document workflow. This also reduces memory pressure and makes visual comparisons easier.
Local HTTPS shows a certificate warning
Open and trust the development certificate in Firefox first, then capture the page after the warning is cleared. If the page remains on an interstitial warning, the screenshot will represent that warning rather than your application.

Repeatable workflows and file organization
For a small project, the built-in command is usually enough. Use a stable filename convention such as route-viewport-theme-date.png, and keep captures in a directory outside generated build artifacts. For visual regression work, record the browser window size, zoom level, operating-system display scaling, application commit, and data fixture alongside each image. Those variables can change line wrapping and therefore the full-page height.

ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. A remote screenshot service needs a URL it can reach; a private localhost address normally exists only on your own computer, so use Firefox for an unexposed local server or provide ScreenshotNeo with a reachable staging URL.
For a reachable page, the one-call API is documented at https://screenshotneo.com/docs/. The following examples use the supplied endpoint and return the image bytes:
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Replace the example URL with the reachable route you want to capture. ScreenshotNeo supports PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF output. Its clean-shot workflow accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor, then removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
Other available controls include:
- Full-page capture with lazy images loaded, or one element selected by CSS selector.
- Dark mode, 12 device presets, arbitrary viewport sizes, and retina scale.
- PDF paper size, margins, landscape mode, and page ranges.
- HTML/CSS-to-image, custom CSS and JavaScript, click-before-capture, hidden selectors, and waits for a selector, delay, or network idle.
- Blocking ads, trackers, requests, or resource types; custom headers, cookies, user agent, and Authorization.
- Timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, and caching with a TTL you choose.
- Signed links for public
<img>tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. - Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs, which can simplify switching.
The MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
