To stop the next PlayStation Plus charge, cancel the subscription from your console or PlayStation Account Management: on the web, open Subscription and choose Cancel Subscription; on PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions > PlayStation Plus > Cancel Subscription; on PS4, open PlayStation Plus > Manage Membership > Subscription > Cancel Subscription. Cancellation normally turns off automatic renewal, while your already-paid period or free trial continues until its scheduled end.
Cancel PlayStation Plus on PS5
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Account.
- Open Payment and Subscriptions.
- Select Subscriptions, then PlayStation Plus.
- Choose Cancel Subscription and complete the confirmation screens.
These are Sony’s current US menu labels; the official guide is at PlayStation’s cancellation instructions. Return to the subscription screen afterward. A displayed end date, disabled next payment, or Reactivate Subscription option generally confirms that renewal is off.

Cancel PlayStation Plus on PS4
Use the route in Sony’s cancellation guide:
- Open PlayStation Plus.
- Select Manage Membership.
- Choose Subscription.
- Select Cancel Subscription and confirm.
If those labels are not shown, try Sony’s alternate account route: Settings > Account Management > Account Information > PlayStation Subscriptions. PS4 wording can vary with system software and account state. Canceling PlayStation Plus does not delete your PlayStation Network account.
Cancel without using a console
- Sign in to PlayStation Account Management in a browser.
- Select Subscription in the left-hand menu.
- Choose Cancel Subscription next to PlayStation Plus.
- Follow the confirmation prompts.
This is useful if your console is broken, sold, unavailable, or being used by someone else. Sony’s published cancellation instructions focus on Account Management and console settings rather than guaranteeing a cancellation control in every version of the PlayStation App. If the app does not show subscription controls, use a browser instead. Uninstalling the app or removing a payment card does not cancel the subscription.

Does cancellation end PlayStation Plus immediately?
Usually, no. Sony describes cancellation as stopping future recurring payments; access normally remains available through the end of the current paid subscription period or free-trial period. You should therefore expect to see an active membership until the displayed end date even after renewal has been disabled. The PS Plus Usage Terms explain the paid-period and recurring-payment rules.
A free trial can convert to a paid recurring subscription unless you cancel before the trial ends. Canceling during the trial should prevent that conversion while leaving the trial benefits available until the trial expires.

What happens to games and other benefits?

Sony’s cancellation guide confirms the distinction between Plus-entitled monthly games and content you purchased separately. It confirms loss of online storage access but does not establish an immediate deletion schedule for cloud saves, so do not rely on the cloud as your only backup.
Can you get a refund after canceling?
Cancellation and a refund are separate actions. Turning off renewal prevents a future charge; it does not automatically return payments already made.

For the United States, Sony’s PlayStation Store Cancellation Policy allows a subscription refund request within 14 days of the initial transaction date, subject to the policy and applicable law. Sony may reduce the refund proportionally to account for use of the service. For a free trial, the 14-day period starts when Sony accepts the trial order, and the trial duration counts toward that period. A request is not a guarantee of approval.
Refund rights can differ outside the US. Use the policy for the country or region attached to your PlayStation account rather than assuming the US time limit applies everywhere.

How to request a PlayStation Plus refund
- Open Sony’s PS Store & Refunds support hub.
- Review your transaction history and identify the PlayStation account and subscription transaction that was charged.
- Use Sony’s refund-request flow and provide the requested transaction details.
- Keep the confirmation or case information while Sony reviews eligibility.
If you were charged recently, cancel renewal as well as submitting the request. Do not begin with a bank chargeback when Sony’s support and refund process is available; a chargeback can create separate account complications.

- Confirm that you canceled on the PSN account that owns the subscription, not merely another account signed in on the console.
- Check Account Management in a desktop or mobile browser.
- Look under Subscriptions for a different PlayStation Plus plan or subscription name.
- Review the account’s transaction history and email receipts to identify which account was billed.
- Check whether a free trial converted or another family member’s account has its own recurring subscription.
- If the subscription is active but cannot be managed, contact PlayStation Support.
A charge made before cancellation was completed may already have been authorized or processed. If it falls within Sony’s policy window, submit a refund request; neither cancellation nor support contact guarantees reversal.
Removing a credit card or PayPal account is not a reliable substitute for cancellation. Sony’s terms state that when the wallet lacks enough funds for an automatic payment, the default payment method may be charged to cover the fee.
Can you reactivate PlayStation Plus?
Before the next payment date, open the subscription controls and select Reactivate Subscription if that option is available. This restores automatic continuation without requiring a new purchase. After the membership has expired, you will generally need to subscribe again. Canceling does not erase your account, purchase history, or separately purchased games.
Should you cancel or downgrade?
Cancel completely if you want no future Plus benefits or recurring charges. If you mainly want core benefits such as online multiplayer and monthly games but do not need higher-tier catalog, Classics Catalog, cloud-streaming, or game-trial features, a downgrade may be a better fit. Sony’s US plan lineup and benefits can change, so compare the current tiers on the official PlayStation Plus plan page before changing plans. A downgrade can have its own effective date and benefit changes; read the confirmation screen carefully.

Checklist before you cancel
- Note the next payment date and current subscription end date.
- Confirm you are using the account that was charged.
- Back up important saves before cloud-storage access ends.
- Decide whether you also need to request a refund.
- Cancel through Subscription settings, not by removing a payment method.
- Verify the end date, disabled renewal, or Reactivate Subscription option.
- Save the confirmation email or take a screenshot for your records.
