Cancel Dropbox through the same service that bills you: Dropbox.com, Google Play, or Apple Subscriptions. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. Cancellation normally prevents the next charge while you keep paid features until the current billing period or trial ends.
First, identify who bills your Dropbox plan
The cancellation button appears in the billing channel that sold the subscription. If you are unsure which account or plan is involved, sign in to Dropbox and check Profile menu > Manage account > Subscriptions. The displayed plan belongs to the account currently signed in, so verify its email address. Team plans are listed under Settings > Plan.

- Dropbox.com: usually individual Plus, Professional, or Essentials subscriptions purchased directly from Dropbox.
- Google Play: subscriptions purchased on Android.
- Apple: subscriptions purchased on an iPhone or iPad through Apple Subscriptions.
Family and team subscriptions use different management arrangements. A Family manager or team administrator may control billing, so use Dropbox’s plan-specific instructions rather than treating every member as an individual subscriber.
Cancel a Dropbox.com subscription
This route applies to covered individual Plus, Professional, and Essentials plans purchased directly from Dropbox.

- Sign in at Dropbox.com using the account that is being charged.
- Open the profile menu and select Manage account.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Cancel plan.
- Choose a reason, then continue through the confirmation prompts.
- Keep the cancellation email for your records.
Dropbox says the confirmation email uses the subject “Dropbox Plan will not renew”. You may also see “Plan downgrade scheduled” in the account’s Billing tab.
Cancel Dropbox on Android
- Open the Dropbox app.
- Go to Account > Manage your subscription > How to cancel > Cancel plan.
- Follow the link into Google Play.
- Complete the cancellation in Google Play and retain the confirmation sent to your Google account.
Because Google Play controls the payment, changing settings only inside Dropbox does not complete the cancellation.

Cancel Dropbox on an iPhone or iPad
- Open the device’s Settings.
- Tap your Apple account name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then Dropbox.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
If there is no cancel button or the screen shows an expiration notice, Apple indicates that the subscription is already canceled.
When does cancellation take effect?
Cancellation normally stops renewal rather than ending paid access immediately. For a Dropbox.com individual plan, the account changes to Dropbox Basic at the end of the current monthly or yearly billing cycle. Mobile-billed subscriptions and trials generally downgrade when their billing cycle or trial ends. Dropbox says you will not be charged again after a successful cancellation.

What happens to files after the downgrade?
The account becomes Dropbox Basic when the paid period ends. Dropbox stated a 2 GB Basic storage allowance in its individual-plan cancellation guidance (2023); check the current allowance shown in your account because plan limits can change.
If your stored data exceeds the Basic quota, Dropbox says you may be unable to sync, upload, share, move, or preview files and folders. If the account remains over quota, Dropbox may delete files you own to bring storage below the limit.

- Check the account’s storage usage before the downgrade.
- Download important files or move them to another storage service.
- Remove files you do not need from Dropbox if you intend to keep the account on Basic.
Dropbox’s mobile cancellation guidance (updated August 13, 2026) says deleted file versions are retained for 30 days. That is a version-retention statement, not a guarantee of permanent backup or archival access after cancellation.

- Check the billing channel: a missing web button often means the subscription was purchased through Google Play or Apple and must be canceled there.
- Check the signed-in account: switch accounts if the plan or billing information looks unfamiliar.
- Check the plan type: Family and team billing may require the manager or administrator.
- Check for an existing cancellation: a scheduled downgrade, expiration date, or provider confirmation means renewal may already be disabled.
Deleting the Dropbox app from a phone or computer does not cancel the plan or delete the Dropbox account. Allowing a payment card to expire is not a reliable cancellation method and may not stop charges; contact the bank if an unauthorized or unresolved charge continues. For an unfamiliar Dropbox charge, use Dropbox’s transaction lookup tool to identify the account and purchase.

Cancellation versus a refund
Canceling prevents future renewal; it does not normally refund charges that have already been processed. Dropbox describes most Dropbox and Dropbox Dash subscription payments and team-member licenses as nonrefundable.
Dropbox describes a potential 14-day refund route for customers in the European Union, United Kingdom, or Turkey who cancel Plus, Family, Professional, or Essentials within 14 days of purchase (terms updated in 2025). Eligibility depends on the location, plan, purchase date, and applicable terms, so it is not an automatic guarantee.

Verify that renewal is stopped
- Look for Dropbox’s cancellation email, or the confirmation from Apple or Google Play.
- In Dropbox, open the Billing tab and check for Plan downgrade scheduled or an end date.
- Save the confirmation until the paid period has ended and no further renewal appears.
