To bulk delete WordPress posts, open Posts → All Posts, filter or search for the posts you intend to remove, select their checkboxes, then choose Delete under Bulk Actions and click Apply. For a large or important deletion, make a restorable backup first and verify the selected posts before applying the action.

Before deleting posts

Deleting the wrong set of posts can remove content you meant to keep. If the posts matter or the deletion is broad, back up both the database and site files, and make sure you know how to restore them. WordPress explains why both are relevant and outlines backup and restoration considerations in its backup guidance.

Bulk delete posts in the WordPress dashboard

  1. Sign in to WordPress and open Posts → All Posts.

  2. Filter the list using the status links, search box, date filter, or category filter. Check that the displayed rows match the posts you want to delete. WordPress documents these list controls on its Posts screen.

  3. Select the checkbox beside each post you want to remove. If there are more posts than fit on one page, open Screen Options and increase the number of posts displayed, or work through the pages one at a time. The header checkbox selects the rows shown on that page; do not assume it selects matching posts on other pages.

By default, wp post delete moves posts to Trash. Add --force only when you intend to skip the Trash and permanently delete them. For example, after confirming the IDs, a command can take this form:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
wp post delete 123 456 789

To bypass Trash, use:

wp post delete 123 456 789 --force

Replace the example IDs with the IDs you reviewed; these commands do not identify posts by title or category on their own.

The dashboard is straightforward when the posts can be identified using its list filters. WP-CLI is useful when you already have a verified set of IDs. If your criteria require filters the dashboard does not offer, a plugin may help; check its current capabilities and safeguards before using it. The WP Bulk Delete listing describes its filters and custom post type support, but also warns about irreversible deletion.

When duplicate cleanup is the goal

Removing duplicates is a specialized case: a review-oriented tool may help you identify candidates before deleting them. The Delete Duplicate Posts listing describes a duplicate-review workflow and advises making a full site backup first. Review the plugin’s current behavior and compatibility before installing it.
