You can build an IPL 2026 Dream11 agent as a decision-support tool: it gathers authorized cricket data, estimates fantasy points, generates teams that meet the applicable rules, and explains its choices. Keep login, contest entry, payments, and final submission manual. Dream11’s published terms restrict unauthorized automated access and bots, so a submission bot is not a safe default.
First decide what “agent” means
There are three quite different projects behind that phrase:
- Recommendation agent: proposes valid teams, explains selections, and updates them when the toss and playing XIs are known. This is the recommended scope.
- Research copilot: answers questions about roles, venue conditions, or match scenarios using sourced data, without necessarily producing a full team.
- Submission bot: logs in, selects players, joins contests, or submits a team automatically. Do not build this unless Dream11 has expressly authorized the integration in writing. Its published terms restrict unauthorized automated access—including agents, scripts, and screen scrapers—and automated means used to gain contest advantages.
Keep the assistant separate from the Dream11 account. Do not collect passwords, OTPs, session cookies, payment details, or other users’ private team information. Use authorized data sources, show the user what the system knows and when it was updated, and leave the final decision and submission to the person.
Do not hard-code the rules
For an IPL 2026 build, treat rules as a dated configuration, not permanent constants. Dream11’s current cricket materials show an 11-player team, a 100-credit budget, no more than seven players from one real team, and captain and vice-captain multipliers of 2× and 1.5×. Confirm role limits in the applicable live match configuration: do not assume an old guide or a previous season’s interface is authoritative. Check the current Dream11 cricket rules when you build and before each relevant match.

- Cricket Showdown is a fast-paced, easy-to-learn cricket card game that brings the excitement of real cricket into quick, fun matches. Designed for kids, teens, and families, the game combines strategy, luck, and classic cricket moments like runs, wickets, and boundaries. Each round is quick and energetic, making it perfect for family game night, parties, classrooms, or travel. With simple rules and short playtime, Cricket Showdown is easy for beginners to learn while still engaging for experienced cricket fans.
The same page currently displays examples including +1 per run, +1 for a boundary, +2 for a six, +25 for a wicket excluding a run out, +8 for a catch, +8 for reaching 30 runs, +16 for reaching 50, and −2 for a duck by a batter, wicketkeeper, or all-rounder. These examples are not a complete scoring specification. Strike-rate and economy adjustments, minimum-ball or minimum-over thresholds, fielding categories, starting-XI points, and role-specific exceptions matter too. Load the complete applicable scoring table into the rules engine instead of reconstructing it from memory.
For each rule snapshot, save its source URL, retrieval time, competition and format, applicable edition or geography, effective date if supplied, and a version or hash. Refuse to generate a team if the relevant configuration is missing or stale. Dream11’s fantasy-cricket instructions also describe operational exceptions: live scores may change during review; final points settle after the match is complete; Super Over or Super Five actions do not earn points; and starting-XI, replacement, Impact Player, and transferred-player cases need specific handling. Encode the current rules for these situations rather than assuming a substitute is equivalent to a starter.
IPL match playing conditions are another configuration, separate from fantasy scoring. Use the current IPL 2026 match playing conditions for cricket procedures, and the Dream11 rules for fantasy scoring and team constraints.

Keep the components distinct. The optimizer should not fetch data, the scoring engine should not invent rules, and a language model should not be the authority for arithmetic or player availability.
1. Ingest data with provenance
At minimum, store match ID, competition and season, teams, scheduled start, venue, format, match status, toss and innings order when available, rain or interruption status, and source timestamps. For players, use stable provider IDs alongside team, Dream11 role, likely batting position, expected bowling phases and overs, playing probability, workload, availability, and any relevant injury status. Add context such as venue dimensions, historical scoring patterns, pace-spin balance, dew likelihood, weather, and team selection patterns when the source is reliable.

- IT'S A LIGHT STRATEGY GAME WITH A TOUCH OF LUCK. Players take on the role of one of eight cricket teams competing in a championship. In each round, players bat and bowl one over using six dice. As the game progresses, players gain experience, allowing them to enhance their skills. The game lasts for five rounds (45-60 minutes) and offers four different ways to earn winning points.
- 2–5 PLAYERS, DESIGNED FOR ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE. The game is made for both cricket fans and newcomers. No cricket knowledge is required to play, but the game can be a fun way to learn the basics! Its mechanics are easy to pick up while offering enough depth to keep things interesting across multiple plays.
- KICKSTARTED AND COMMUNITY-TESTED. The game was funded on Kickstarter by a global community of board gamers and cricket lovers. It’s been playtested across age groups and regions, with feedback helping refine gameplay into a smooth, balanced experience.
- HIGH REPLAYABILITY WITH MULTIPLE STRATEGIES. Will you go for high-risk sixes or a slow build-up with power cards? With each match playing out differently, no two games are ever the same. The more you play, the deeper your strategy gets.
Attach a provider, timestamp, confidence, identifier, and observed/inferred/predicted label to each important field. Prefer licensed or otherwise authorized feeds with stable IDs and explicit analytical-use rights. Never build the pipeline by repeatedly scraping Dream11 pages, private endpoints, or its app. Name a provider only after checking its IPL coverage, data depth, licensing, and API terms.
Resolve identity by provider ID and match-specific team membership, not display name alone. Spelling variations, duplicate names, transfers, and a player listed under an old team can otherwise produce incorrect projections or invalid teams. If feeds disagree, retain both observations, apply a declared authority policy, flag the discrepancy, and update the record when a trusted result arrives.
2. Build a transparent baseline before an LLM
Start with historical ball-by-ball events, playing XIs, results, venue, toss, innings order, batting position, bowling allocation, and fielding events. Build simple projections from recent fantasy scores and, more importantly, expected opportunity: batting position, likely balls faced, chance of bowling, expected overs, and role in the powerplay, middle overs, or at the death. Add venue and opponent adjustments cautiously. Past performance is a signal, not a promise about the next match.
Keep playing probability separate from performance conditional on playing. A player with a strong projection but a low chance of making the XI should not appear as certain. Likewise, a batter’s opportunity depends on batting position and match state, while a bowler’s depends on expected overs and phase. A one-number average conceals these differences.
Useful prediction targets include runs, balls faced, boundaries, sixes, wickets, runs conceded, overs, dot balls, catches, and dismissal probability. Simulate plausible outcomes, then pass each simulated scorecard through the exact versioned Dream11 scoring engine. This produces a distribution—mean, median, percentile range, and probability of exceeding a threshold—rather than a falsely precise point estimate. Show ranges and playing probability, for example: “Expected 48; median 42; 80% interval 18–86; playing probability 0.78; confidence: medium.” The numbers are illustrative, not a claim about a real player.

3. Encode rules as data and validate independently
A small configuration might begin like this, but production must include every currently applicable category, threshold, and exception:
format: IPL_T20
source_url: https://www.dream11.com/features/how-to-play
retrieved_at: "2026-09-23T00:00:00+05:30"
team_size: 11
credit_budget: 100
max_players_per_real_team: 7
captain_multiplier: 2.0
vice_captain_multiplier: 1.5
scoring:
run: 1
boundary_bonus: 1
six_bonus: 2
wicket_excluding_runout: 25
catch: 8
Replace the example retrieval timestamp with the actual time you fetched the source; never present a sample value as a live verification. Store role minima and maxima, batting and bowling bands, bonuses, penalties, minimum-event thresholds, and replacement rules in the same versioned configuration. A validator should check a proposed team separately from the optimizer and report the exact failed rule.
4. Optimize teams, not prose
For each candidate player, use a binary selection variable x[i], plus binary captain and vice-captain variables c[i] and v[i]. Core constraints are:
Σ x[i] = 11
Σ credits[i] × x[i] ≤ 100
Σ x[i] for each real team ≤ 7
Σ c[i] = 1
Σ v[i] = 1
c[i] + v[i] ≤ x[i]
Add the current role constraints from the live configuration. A mixed-integer solver, constraint-programming solver, or carefully pruned exhaustive search can handle this small selection problem. Keep captain and vice-captain multipliers in the objective, for example:
maximize expected team points
+ captain uplift
+ vice-captain uplift
− uncertainty penalty
The highest expected-score lineup is not automatically the right choice for every contest objective. A high-floor recommendation, a balanced option, and a high-variance option are different risk profiles—not guaranteed “safe” or “winning” teams. A large-field strategy may deliberately tolerate variance; that is a modeling choice, not evidence of profit. If returning several candidates, constrain overlap or otherwise encourage meaningful alternatives rather than outputting near-duplicates.

Use an LLM to orchestrate and explain—not to calculate
A language model can interpret requests, call data tools, compare scenarios, explain optimizer results, and flag missing or stale inputs. It should not calculate credits or fantasy scores from prose, enforce constraints by itself, or fabricate a player fact. Use strict input and output schemas and deterministic tools such as:
get_match_context(match_id)
get_current_rules(format, edition)
get_player_projection(match_id, player_id)
get_confirmed_playing_xi(match_id)
simulate_team(team, match_context)
optimize_teams(objective, constraints)
validate_team(team, rules)
explain_recommendation(team, evidence)
Require explanations to be grounded in tool outputs. If a source has no answer, return “unknown.” Dream11’s platform terms caution that AI-generated insights and player reviews may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or biased. Treat generated commentary as an explanation of the underlying evidence, not as professional advice or verified fact.
Make toss-time updates a first-class workflow
Before the toss, label the lineup provisional, display uncertain players, and avoid presenting likely starters as confirmed. When authoritative updates arrive, run this sequence:
- Record the toss and source timestamp.
- Ingest and verify the announced playing XIs.
- Remove or clearly flag players not selected; never quietly leave a non-starter in the recommendation.
- Update batting positions, expected overs, innings context, and availability probabilities.
- Recompute projections and re-optimize.
- Run the independent team validator against the current rules.
- Show what changed, why it changed, the remaining uncertainties, and when the data was refreshed.
Handle Impact Player and other replacement scenarios using the applicable fantasy rules, not an assumption that every substitute earns points like a starting player. If a recommended player is absent from the announced XI, display a hard warning. Recheck close to the user’s decision deadline because feeds and official information can change.

Captain and vice-captain are distribution decisions
Because the captain multiplier is 2× and vice-captain is 1.5× under the current general rules, these choices amplify both upside and downside. Compare projected distributions, not just mean points. A high-floor captain may suit a conservative objective; a high-ceiling option may make sense for a high-variance objective. Consider opportunity—opening batting, likely overs, death bowling—as well as uncertainty and the match script.

Account for correlation. Two choices whose success depends on the same narrow scenario can amplify the same failure mode; a captain and vice-captain with complementary paths may produce a different risk profile. Explain the scenario behind each choice and the main downside. Do not describe any captain pairing as guaranteed, universally optimal, or a reliable route to winnings.
Backtest without leaking the future
Split evaluation chronologically by match or season. A random row split can leak future information, especially when multiple records relate to the same match or player. For every historical prediction, reconstruct only the data that would have been available at the decision deadline. Do not use the eventual playing XI, post-match stats, final injury news, or corrected outcomes in a pre-toss feature set.
Compare a recent-form baseline, a role-and-opportunity baseline, a statistical model, versions with venue and matchup features, and the additional value of toss and confirmed-XI updates. Evaluate the LLM-assisted workflow separately: it should improve orchestration or comprehensibility, not receive credit for model accuracy it did not produce.
Recommended Free Tools
- Prediction: mean absolute error for player fantasy points, rank correlation, and top-k player recall.
- Calibration: playing-probability calibration and calibration of ceiling probabilities.
- Team quality and safety: projected versus realized team score, constraint-validity rate, and recommendations containing a non-starter.
- Operations: freshness failures, frequency and causes of toss-time changes, and unexplained decisions.
- Usability: whether users can understand the rationale and distinguish evidence from uncertainty.
A short backtest does not establish profitability. Contest size, prize structure, entry fees, participant behavior, and platform rules vary, while historical datasets and model assumptions can be wrong.
Plan for failure cases
- Rule drift: If the applicable scoring or role configuration is unknown, stop and ask for verification rather than generating a supposedly valid team.
- Stale or wrong XI: Preserve source and timestamp; distinguish a probable squad from a confirmed XI and flag unresolved feed conflicts.
- Rain or shortened match: Mark the projection as higher uncertainty. Do not blindly reuse a normal-length match model when thresholds and opportunities may change.
- Super Over: Keep it out of the standard fantasy-event ledger when the current Dream11 rules exclude Super Over or Super Five actions.
- Transfers and duplicate identities: Resolve by stable ID, match date, and team; flag team-list discrepancies rather than trusting the display name.
- Model overconfidence: Show intervals, confidence, and the reason a projection is uncertain. Avoid false precision.
- LLM hallucination: Ground every claim in returned data, reject unsupported player facts, and allow “unknown.”
- Ownership estimates: Treat selection percentages as optional and potentially stale; do not call them live unless verified and permitted.
- Provider errors: Retain source observations, follow a stated precedence policy, and log corrections. Dream11’s terms also note reliance on third-party or organizer feeds and the possibility of incomplete or erroneous data.
A sensible build sequence
- Freeze scope: IPL T20, one match at a time, recommendations only, manual submission, no credentials, no platform scraping.
- Version the rules: Capture the applicable complete scoring and roster rules, source, edition, and retrieval time.
- Build the dataset: Obtain authorized historical ball-by-ball data, lineups, roles, toss, venue, and outcomes; resolve stable IDs.
- Ship a baseline: Project opportunity and performance with transparent heuristics before adding complex models.
- Add distributions: Simulate outcomes, apply the scoring engine, and calibrate intervals and playing probabilities.
- Add the optimizer: Enforce role, credit, team-count, and captain rules, then independently validate output.
- Add toss updates: Recalculate on verified XI and toss changes and show a clear change log.
- Add the LLM interface: Let it call strict-schema tools and explain results; keep arithmetic deterministic.
- Evaluate and monitor: Backtest temporally, track data freshness and non-starter errors, and retain an audit trail.
Deployment checklist
- Current season, format, and applicable edition identified.
- Complete rule source, retrieval time, and configuration version recorded.
- Player and match IDs resolved; data provider use is authorized.
- Data freshness, availability, and uncertainty visible to the user.
- Confirmed XI and toss checked when available.
- Role, credit, team-count, and captain constraints independently validated.
- Recommendation timestamped, alternatives explained, and assumptions logged.
- No Dream11 credentials stored; no scraping, login automation, contest entry, or submission bot.
- No guaranteed-win claims; users review and submit manually under their local rules.
Fantasy-sports legality and availability can depend on jurisdiction, age, product, and current law. Avoid broad legal claims: users should check the current rules where they are. The goal of this build is a transparent analytical assistant, not a promise of winnings or a way around platform controls.
