On an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 26, you can block a specific number, screen unknown callers, silence them, or filter calls your carrier identifies as spam. For most people who still need calls from new numbers, start with Ask Reason for Calling; use Silence only if you are comfortable sending unsaved callers to voicemail. These controls depend on iOS, your carrier and region—not on whether you own the Pro or Pro Max.
“International” can mean an iPhone bought outside the United States or unwanted calls from foreign numbers. The steps below cover both. Menu names and available filtering features can vary by iOS version, language, carrier and country.
Block one spam number
- Open Phone.
- Open Calls in the unified layout, or Recents in the classic layout.
- Tap the number or contact you want to block.
- Tap Block Caller.
To review or unblock numbers on iOS 26, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Blocked Contacts, then tap Edit. On older iOS versions, look under Settings → Apps → Phone → Blocked Contacts; older releases may place blocked contacts in Phone, FaceTime, Messages or Mail settings. A blocked caller may still leave voicemail; Apple says you will not receive a notification for it. Blocking is not the same as preventing every trace of a call.

Choose how to handle unknown callers
On iOS 26, go to Settings → Apps → Phone and find the unknown-caller screening controls. Depending on the options shown on your device, choose one of these:
- Never: Unknown callers ring normally.
- Ask Reason for Calling: The iPhone asks the caller for their name and reason before it rings. You can consider the response before answering. This is generally the safer starting point if you expect calls from new people.
- Silence: Qualifying unknown callers are sent to voicemail without ringing. Their calls remain visible in call history.
Apple says calls from Contacts, recent outgoing calls and some Siri Suggestions can continue to ring when unknown callers are silenced. Screening uses the iPhone’s default language, so caller and language support may affect the experience. Consult Apple’s iPhone guide to screening and filtering calls.
Before choosing Silence, save numbers you need to hear from. A new clinic, delivery driver, school, recruiter, hotel, airline, bank, government office or family member calling from a new number may not be in your contacts. Silencing is not a network-level block, and an important call may go to voicemail instead of ringing.
Filter carrier-identified spam
In Settings → Apps → Phone, look under call filtering and turn on Spam if that option is available. You can separately turn on Unknown Callers. These labels refer to different things:

- Spam: Calls your carrier identifies as potential spam or fraud. With the filter enabled, they can be silenced, sent to voicemail and placed in a Spam list.
- Unknown Callers: Calls your phone does not recognize as known to you. This does not mean the caller is a scammer.
- Blocked Contacts: Numbers you personally blocked.
- Call identification: Caller labels supplied by a carrier or enabled app.
To review filtered calls, open Phone → Calls or Recents → Filter, then choose Spam or Unknown Callers. If a legitimate caller was classified incorrectly, mark the number as known where that option is available and save it to Contacts. Apple’s spam filter relies on carrier identification, so the Spam switch may be absent or its performance may differ by carrier and country.
Can you block a whole country code?
Apple’s documented standard Phone controls cover individual blocked contacts, unknown callers and carrier-identified spam; they do not document a general built-in rule to block every number beginning with a particular country code or prefix. If you need pattern-based rules, check whether your carrier offers them or consider a compatible call-blocking app.
For example, Truecaller advertises country-code and number-series blocking. Hiya documents country-code, area-code and prefix controls, with some controls limited to paid plans or warning-only behavior. Features, prices and availability can change and vary by region; check the app’s local App Store listing and privacy terms before enabling it. Hiya also says some individual-number identification features are unavailable in Europe because of privacy regulations.
Do not block an entire foreign country code unless you are sure you do not need calls from it. A rule can also silence family, employers, banks, airlines, hotels and other legitimate callers. Prefer a narrow prefix or number rule when your chosen service supports it.

Enable carrier or app caller identification
Go to Settings → Apps → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification and enable the carrier or call-identification app options available there. Some iPhones may also show business identification based on Apple Business Connect or carrier information. An app generally needs to be installed, updated and enabled in this screen; some features require an account or subscription.
Identification availability and accuracy depend on the provider, region and database. If an app is not labeling calls, first confirm it is enabled in this menu and check its own setup instructions. Review its privacy terms before use: third-party identification may handle caller information. Start with Apple’s controls, check for carrier protection, and add one app only if you need its additional coverage or prefix rules.

An iPhone 15 Pro purchased outside the United States does not have a separate spam-blocking procedure. What matters is the installed iOS version, phone language and region, active line, carrier service and any enabled identification app. A local carrier may not provide the same spam labels or blocking service as another country’s carrier.

With Dual SIM or multiple eSIMs, note which line receives the calls and check protection with each relevant carrier. When roaming, your home carrier’s classification may not behave the same way on a foreign network; a local SIM or eSIM may have different tools. App databases and features can also vary by country. Verify availability with your carrier and the app’s local listing rather than assuming a service works everywhere.

Filter FaceTime spam separately
Regular Phone call settings do not explain every FaceTime case. For FaceTime, open Settings → Apps → FaceTime and review the available options, such as Silence Unknown Callers, Unknown Callers or FaceTime Spam. Available controls may vary by software and region. See Apple’s FaceTime call-filtering guidance.
If a legitimate call stops ringing
- In Settings → Apps → Phone, set unknown-caller screening to Never, or turn off the Unknown Callers filter if enabled.
- Check Blocked Contacts for a number you did not mean to block. On iOS 26, find it under Settings → Privacy & Security; on older releases, check the Phone settings.
- Check whether a Focus mode or Do Not Disturb is silencing calls.
- Add the legitimate caller to Contacts. Also review the Phone app’s Spam and Unknown Callers lists for a misclassified call.
- Temporarily disable a carrier or third-party filtering option to determine whether it is responsible, then check its settings or support page.
- Install available iOS updates. If calls still go straight to voicemail or cellular service is unreliable, check Wi-Fi Calling and contact your carrier.
Apple’s troubleshooting guide for calls sent to voicemail also recommends checking Focus, Phone settings, blocked contacts, Wi-Fi Calling and unknown-caller settings. If someone blocked keeps leaving voicemail, that can be expected; ask your carrier whether it can block calls at the network level.
Pick the setup that fits your calls

| You rarely need calls from unsaved numbers | Silence, after saving important numbers and accepting that other calls may go to voicemail. |

| Your carrier identifies spam and iOS offers the switch | Turn on Spam, then review the Spam list for mistakes. |
| You need country-code or prefix rules | Check carrier tools or one compatible app; confirm local feature availability and privacy terms. |
| You want to know who is calling, not just silence calls | Enable available carrier or app identification under Call Blocking & Identification. |
No setting or app can promise to stop every nuisance call. Number rotation and caller-ID spoofing limit individual-number blocks; carrier and app databases can miss calls or label legitimate ones as spam. Use the broadest filter that will not make you miss calls you need.
