The exact buttons depend on the editor, but the workflow is consistent: open a design or slide, choose the text, image, or shape command, insert the object, then select it to edit, arrange, and style it. This guide gives separate desktop paths for Adobe Express, Canva, and Google Slides so you do not mistake one product’s toolbar for another’s.
Choose the right instructions first
Visual editors differ by product, account type, device, and interface updates. The steps below identify the application and, where relevant, the computer interface. On a phone or tablet, labels and panel locations may differ. If a control is missing, confirm that you are editing the design rather than viewing a preview, and check whether the object is locked.
How do I add text to a design?
Adobe Express
- Open your design in Adobe Express.
- Select Text in the side panel.
- Select Add your text. Adobe Express places a text box on the canvas.
- Select the text box and type or replace the wording.
- Use the Text panel to change the font, size, color, alignment, and text layout. Select the text box itself when you need to move, resize, or rotate the entire object.
Keep headings and body copy in separate text boxes when they need independent positioning or formatting. For long copy, resize the box rather than repeatedly inserting line breaks; this keeps wrapping responsive when the canvas changes.
Canva
- Open a design in the Canva editor.
- Use Canva’s text controls to insert a text box or a heading, subheading, or body-text style.
- Select the new text object and type your content.
- With the object selected, adjust its font, size, color, alignment, spacing, and other controls shown in Canva’s editor.
Canva’s labels can vary by design type and account, so use the text command visible in the editor rather than assuming it is in the same place as Adobe Express. Double-click text to edit its words; click once when you need to select the object for positioning.

Google Slides on a computer
- Open the presentation and choose the slide.
- Use the text-box command in the toolbar, then click or drag on the slide to create the box.
- Type your text.
- Select the box to change its font, size, color, alignment, and position using the toolbar and the object handles.
Clicking creates a box that expands as you type; dragging creates a box with a defined width, which is useful for controlled line wrapping.
How do I insert an image?
Use a built-in library or search result
Canva separates library imagery from your own files. In the editor, open the side panel and use Elements search to find an image or graphic. Select a result to place it on the design, then drag, resize, crop, or reposition it. Check the asset’s license and any attribution requirement before publishing outside the editor.
Upload your own image in Canva
- Open the upload control in Canva’s editor.
- Choose an image file from your device.
- Wait for the upload to finish, then select the uploaded file to add it to the canvas.
- Use the object controls to crop, resize, move, or rotate it.
A personal upload and a library search are different routes: the former uses a file you provide, while the latter selects an asset already available in the service.
Insert an image in Google Slides on a computer
- Open the slide where the image belongs.
- Select Insert in the top menu.
- Choose Image, then select the source offered by Slides, such as an upload from your computer.
- Select the file or source item and insert it.
- Drag the image to position it. Use the corner handles to resize while preserving its proportions; use crop controls when you need to change which part is visible.
Google Slides also provides other image sources in its Insert menu. Choose the source deliberately: inserting a local file, searching available online content, and selecting an item from cloud storage have different ownership and availability implications.

Where do I find shapes?
Adobe Express
- Select Add content.
- Choose Elements, then Shapes.
- Select a preset shape, or choose Draw shape when you need a custom outline.
- Select the shape on the canvas and edit its fill, border, opacity, scale, and rotation.
Use a preset for repeatable icons and a drawn shape when the geometry itself is part of the design. A transparent fill with a visible border can work as a callout without hiding the content beneath it.
Google Slides on a computer
- Select Insert in the top menu.
- Choose Shape, select a category, and choose the shape.
- Click or drag on the slide to place it.
- Use the fill, border, size, rotation, and alignment controls to refine it.
Google Slides’ Shape menu is separate from its Image and text-box commands. Do not use a screenshot or pasted graphic when you need a shape that remains editable.
Canva
In Canva, use the editor’s Elements panel to search for shapes and add one to the design. Select the result, then use the controls displayed for its color, size, position, and other available properties. Search terms can return both simple geometric shapes and decorative graphics, so inspect the result before choosing it.
How do I place and refine objects?
Position and size
- Drag an object to move it. Use corner handles for proportional resizing when the editor supports them.
- Use alignment guides or the editor’s alignment commands to line up edges and centers.
- Resize text boxes separately from changing the font size; a wider box changes wrapping, while a larger font changes visual scale.
- Rotate only when the angle supports the hierarchy and remains readable.
Appearance
For text, check contrast, line spacing, and the relationship between heading and body sizes. For images, crop before shrinking so the subject remains legible. For shapes, tune fill, border, opacity, and scale rather than stacking many nearly identical objects.

Order, grouping, and distribution
Overlapping objects need an intentional front-to-back order. In Google Slides, use arrange/order commands to bring an item forward or send it backward. The same interface provides alignment, distribution, centering, rotation, and grouping. Group objects only after their individual sizes and positions are correct; otherwise you may have to ungroup repeatedly to make small edits.
Other editors expose comparable controls through a context menu, toolbar, or object panel. The names are not universal, so follow the controls shown for the selected product.
A reliable composition check
- Read the text at the size and distance your audience will use. Increase contrast or add a background treatment if words disappear over an image.
- Verify that the image’s important subject is not clipped by a crop or covered by a shape.
- Click through overlapping objects and confirm the intended front-to-back order.
- Check alignment against nearby objects and the canvas edges.
- Preview the design or presentation at its delivery size before exporting or presenting.
- Reopen the file, if possible, to confirm that edits were saved and that linked or uploaded assets still load.
Common problems and fixes
The text will not edit
You may have selected the object rather than entered text-edit mode. Double-click the text object, or use the editor’s text-edit command. If it remains unavailable, look for a lock indicator, a grouped object, or a background layer that must be duplicated before editing.
The image is blurry
The source file may be too small for the displayed size, or repeated resizing and exporting may have reduced quality. Insert the largest suitable original and avoid enlarging a low-resolution file. Export at the dimensions required by the destination rather than repeatedly converting the same image.

The image or shape is behind the wrong object
Select it and use the product’s order controls to bring it forward or send it backward. In Google Slides, the arrange/order commands handle this explicitly. If an object is difficult to select, temporarily move or hide the covering object, or select it from the editor’s object/layer controls when available.
The shape cannot be customized as expected
You may have inserted a decorative graphic rather than an editable shape. In Canva, search results can include both. In Adobe Express, use the Shapes route and select a preset or Draw shape. In Google Slides, use Insert > Shape.
The layout changes on another device
Different screen sizes and mobile interfaces can alter wrapping and panel locations. Use explicit text-box widths, leave safe margins, and preview on the device or presentation format that matters. Treat desktop instructions as desktop instructions; do not assume the same path on Android or iOS.

If your real task is generating a clean image of a finished webpage rather than manually composing a design, ScreenshotNeo provides a one-call website screenshot API. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. The service accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed.
