With Nextend Social Login, the documented dashboard path is Plugins > Add New to install it, followed by Settings > Nextend Social Connect to configure and test a provider.
Choose a plugin and confirm it fits your site
A social-login plugin adds buttons and connects WordPress to an identity provider; it does not eliminate the separate provider setup. Before choosing one, check which providers it supports, where its buttons can appear, and whether it integrates with the forms your site actually uses.
Nextend Social Login is one documented option. Its WordPress.org listing says the free version supports Facebook, Google, and X. The vendor lists additional providers and integrations—including WooCommerce, BuddyPress, UserPro, and Ultimate Member—as Pro features. These are the vendor’s feature descriptions, not an independent comparison of plugins. See the WordPress.org plugin listing.
- Confirm that the provider your audience uses is included in the plugin version you plan to install.
- Check whether the buttons can appear on your login, registration, commerce, or membership forms.
- Review privacy controls, account-data handling, compatibility, maintenance, and support before deploying the plugin.
Install and configure social login
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New, search for Nextend Social Login, select Install Now, and activate the plugin. The vendor documents this route in its installation guide.
- Open Settings > Nextend Social Connect and choose a provider. Follow the plugin’s provider-specific instructions to create or connect the application credentials the provider requires.
- Test the provider configuration using the plugin’s test option. Resolve any errors before enabling the provider for visitors.
- Enable the provider after its test succeeds, then check the login and registration journey on desktop and mobile. Confirm that a new account can be created, an existing account can sign in, and users return to the expected page.
Set up Google OAuth carefully
For Google sign-in, create a web application OAuth client and use the redirect URI shown in Nextend’s provider setup. Google requires the redirect URI to exactly match an authorized URI for that client: the scheme, capitalization, and trailing slash must match. A mismatch can produce redirect_uri_mismatch. Follow Google’s web-server OAuth guide when configuring the client.

- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
- Copy the plugin-provided redirect URI exactly into the OAuth client’s authorized redirect URIs.
- Keep the client secret somewhere accessible only to the application. Google warns against placing it in a public location.
- For a production Google OAuth app, provide a publicly accessible homepage describing the app and linking to its privacy policy. Google also requires HTTPS for web OAuth client redirect URIs and JavaScript origins. Check the current OAuth policies.
Choose where the buttons appear
Nextend says its free plugin automatically adds social-login buttons to the default /wp-login.php form and forms that use wp_login_form(). For other locations, it documents shortcodes, PHP insertion, and a widget. Its Pro add-on provides placement or integrations for named commerce and membership forms. Check the vendor’s getting-started guide to choose a placement method that matches your site.
If a button does not appear where visitors register or sign in, verify which form the theme or plugin renders and whether your social-login plugin supports that form. A button shown on the standard WordPress login page does not, by itself, establish that a separate membership or checkout form is integrated.

Review privacy settings and account behavior
Before launch, review which user information the plugin handles and how it is displayed or deleted. Nextend documents privacy controls in its general settings documentation. Match the site’s disclosures to its actual data handling and applicable requirements; plugin settings alone do not establish legal compliance.
Also test how the site handles existing WordPress accounts, new registrations, and the page users reach after authentication. These checks help catch account-linking or redirect behavior that a successful provider test alone may not reveal.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- Google reports
redirect_uri_mismatch: Compare the URI displayed by the plugin with the OAuth client’s authorized redirect URI character by character, including the scheme and final slash. - The login button is missing: Check whether the form is the default WordPress login form, uses
wp_login_form(), or needs a shortcode, PHP insertion, widget, or paid integration. - The provider is configured but sign-in fails: Run the plugin’s provider test again and check the provider setup instructions and credentials before enabling the button for visitors.
- A production Google app is not ready: Verify that the homepage and privacy-policy link are publicly accessible and that the web OAuth client uses HTTPS origins and redirect URIs.
