Copy the URL of your public LinkedIn profile, add it as a hyperlink to text such as “View my LinkedIn profile” in your email signature settings, save, and test the link in a received email. A small linked icon is optional; linked text is the more reliable choice when images are blocked or viewed on mobile.
Choose the right LinkedIn link
For a personal signature, use your personal public profile URL. Use a LinkedIn company Page URL when the signature represents a business or brand. A post link is generally suitable only when the email relates to a specific campaign or post.
- Open the intended profile or Page in a browser and copy its address.
- Open that URL in a private or logged-out browser window. Confirm it leads to the right person or organization and is viewable as intended.
- If you want a cleaner public profile URL, LinkedIn provides guidance for editing it: edit your public profile URL.
A profile URL placed in an email signature is an ordinary hyperlink. It is separate from LinkedIn profile features such as links in the profile introduction; LinkedIn says a former introduction-section link option was removed. See LinkedIn’s explanation of that profile feature.
Choose text, an icon, or a plain URL

A good default is descriptive linked text, for example LinkedIn: View my profile. If you add an icon too, keep the text link as a fallback rather than relying on an unlabeled image.

Add LinkedIn to a Gmail signature on a computer
- Open Gmail, select Settings, then See all settings.
- On the General tab, scroll to Signature. Select Create new, enter a name, and select Create.
- Type your signature. To link text, select the words you want recipients to click, choose the link control in the formatting bar, paste the profile URL, and confirm.
- To use an icon, insert the image, select it, choose the link control, and paste the same URL.
- Under signature defaults, choose whether this signature applies to new emails and to replies and forwards. Check the account if you use more than one sending address.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Save Changes.
Google documents formatted text, links, and images in Gmail signatures, along with multiple signatures and separate defaults for new messages and replies. Gmail’s documented signature limit is 10,000 characters, with images counting toward it. See Gmail signature settings and Gmail’s signature formatting guidance.
Gmail settings that commonly cause confusion
- A signature can be assigned to new messages but not replies and forwards, or the reverse. Check both defaults if it appears only in some messages.
- Gmail supports multiple signatures, including signatures associated with different “Send mail as” addresses. Confirm you edited the signature for the address you actually use.
- If the formatting controls are missing, check whether the message is in Plain text mode; Gmail says plain-text mode prevents normal formatting. In a conversation, a signature may also be hidden under the three-dot trimmed-content control.
For image problems, Google’s troubleshooting guidance covers upload method, browser data, Drive sharing permissions, and image dimensions. Its recommendation of roughly 70–100 pixels high by 300–400 pixels wide, with a maximum of 100 pixels high by 1,000 pixels wide, applies to Gmail signature images—not to every email client. Set a separate signature in the Gmail app on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Gmail app and tap the menu button, then Settings.
- Under Compose and Reply, tap Signature settings.
- Turn on Mobile Signature, enter or edit the signature, then tap Back to save.
Google says the mobile signature is used only for messages sent from the Gmail app. If you do not create one, Gmail may use the computer-configured signature for new messages. Configure each account in the app separately. The mobile editor is distinct from Gmail on the web, so use linked plain text if it does not offer the formatting you need, and test the result. Add LinkedIn to an Outlook signature
Outlook has several interfaces, and the signature path depends on which one you use. Microsoft’s instructions cover the workflows below; labels may differ as the apps change. The Windows and web paths are not Mac instructions. Microsoft directs Outlook for Mac users to a separate workflow, so do not assume the Windows steps apply.

New Outlook for Windows
- Select Settings, then Accounts > Signatures.
- If you have multiple accounts, choose the account to configure and select Add signature.
- Enter your signature. Select text and use the link control to attach the LinkedIn URL, or insert an image and link it.
- Choose whether Outlook should apply the signature to new messages and to replies or forwards, then select Save.
Classic Outlook for Windows
- Open a new email and select Message > Signature > Signatures.
- Under Select signature to edit, select New and name the signature.
- Build it in the Edit signature box. Select the LinkedIn text and use Insert Hyperlink, or insert an icon and hyperlink the image.
- Under Choose default signature, select the account and signature for new messages and, separately, replies and forwards. Select OK.
A signature you create in classic Outlook may not automatically appear in the message that is already open; insert it manually if needed.
Outlook on the web and Outlook.com
- Select Settings > Accounts > Signatures.
- Create or edit the signature, then add linked LinkedIn text or an icon with the profile URL attached.
- Select Save. While composing, you can also insert a saved signature from the Signature control.

Make a LinkedIn icon clickable
- Insert the icon into the signature editor.
- Select the image itself—not just the text beside it—and open the editor’s link or hyperlink control.
- Paste the public profile or company Page URL and save the signature.
- Send a test email and click the icon in the received message.
Inserting an image and attaching a hyperlink to it are separate actions. Microsoft documents linking social icons in Outlook. Google confirms Gmail signatures support images and links; for a Gmail image link, selecting the image and applying the URL is also described in Google’s Gmail Help Community.

Keep the signature readable and accessible
- Use a short, descriptive link label such as “LinkedIn profile,” rather than an unexplained icon or “click here.”
- Keep contact details as text, not embedded in an image. If the editor offers alt text for the icon, give it a meaningful label.
- Use readable contrast and a modest icon size. Avoid a large banner or complex layout for a simple profile link.
- Check that the signature is not so promotional that it overwhelms the email. A link should support the sender’s identity, not compete with the message.
Fix common LinkedIn signature problems

Test the finished signature
- Send a test message to an account you can check on both a computer and a phone.
- Click the LinkedIn text or icon in the received message and confirm the intended public profile or Page opens.
- Test a new message and a reply or forward, as well as each sending account you use.
- Check that the text remains understandable if images are blocked and that the signature is not hidden where recipients are unlikely to find it.
