To add an image to a LinkedIn post, start a post from the feed, choose Photo, select one or more image files, add your text, check the preview and audience, then publish. On desktop, start with Start a post; in the mobile app, tap the Post icon. LinkedIn Help describes the Photo option as a way to share “an image or multiple images.”

Add a photo to a LinkedIn post

The basic steps are the same whether you are posting from a computer or phone: open the post composer, choose Photo, select the image file or files, review what LinkedIn displays, and publish. Labels or prompts around the composer can vary as LinkedIn updates its interface, so use the controls currently shown in your account.

On desktop

  1. Open LinkedIn and go to the feed.
  2. In the feed share box, choose Start a post.
3. Choose Photo from the sharing options.
  4. Select an image from your computer. To make a multi-image post, select more than one file if the file picker and composer allow it.
  5. Add your post text, review the displayed image arrangement, and check the audience setting.
  6. When everything looks right, publish using the on-screen control.

In the LinkedIn mobile app

  1. Open the LinkedIn app and tap the Post icon.
  2. Choose Photo.
  3. Select an image or images from your device and follow the prompts to attach them.
  4. Write your post text, inspect the preview and audience, then publish with the control shown in the composer.

LinkedIn confirms that Photo supports one or multiple images, but the official sources reviewed do not establish a universal maximum number. If you are preparing a carousel-like sequence or a set whose order matters, check the composer’s preview and confirm the ordering before publishing. LinkedIn’s Page-post FAQ says the count and orientation of the images affect the layout.

Choose a supported image file

LinkedIn Help’s media-format table lists JPEG and PNG for desktop, iOS, and Android. It also lists HEIF/HEIC for iOS and WebP for Android; the current table lists WebP for desktop and iOS as well. Because formats and support can change, check LinkedIn’s live media-format guidance if an upload fails or your device uses an unusual image format. JPEG or PNG is the broadly supported choice in the listed formats.

If a large image is rejected, export a smaller copy in JPEG or PNG and try again.

Add useful alt text

Alt text gives members using screen-reader software a description of an image’s meaningful content. LinkedIn says this description is not visible to members who do not use screen readers.

  1. Upload the image in the post composer.
  2. Select Alt.text below the image when that control is available.
  3. Write a concise description of the information a person needs to understand from the image, then save it.

LinkedIn may assign alt text automatically in some circumstances. Its Help page says desktop uploaders will be alerted when this happens, while mobile uploaders will not. Check the alt-text control when available and make sure the description accurately communicates the important visual information; do not assume an automatic description is complete.

How many images can you add, and what layout will they use?

You can use Photo to attach one or multiple images. LinkedIn’s Page-post FAQ says image count and orientation influence the layout, so there is no single arrangement to assume for every set. The reviewed official guidance does not give a universal image-count maximum. Use the composer’s actual selection and preview as the practical check for your account and post type.

Do you need a particular image size or aspect ratio?

LinkedIn’s reviewed guidance does not establish one mandatory size or aspect ratio for every regular organic Photo post. Several image recommendations that appear in search results refer to different LinkedIn publishing flows; they should not be treated as rules for an ordinary feed photo upload.

LinkedIn image guidance What it applies to
1.91:1 recommended ratio; an image under 200 pixels wide may display as a thumbnail A LinkedIn Page post’s linked article or website preview. This is not a universal requirement for Photo uploads.
1200 × 628 landscape, 1200 × 1200 square, and 720 × 900 vertical LinkedIn single-image ads, not ordinary organic posts.
1920 × 1080 optimal cover image A LinkedIn article cover image, not a feed Photo post.

These figures are published in LinkedIn Help for their stated contexts; the Help search results do not provide publication years. For a regular photo post, choose dimensions that preserve the image’s important content and check the actual composer preview. For a link preview, ad, or article, follow the specifications for that specific format instead.

  • Audience: Confirm the audience setting shown in the composer matches who should see the post.
  • Alt text: Add or inspect a meaningful description when the Alt.text control is available.
  • Text and image together: Review the post text alongside the image preview so the post makes sense as a whole.

Troubleshoot image upload problems

The file will not upload

Check that the image uses a format listed for your device in LinkedIn Help, such as JPEG or PNG, and that it is within LinkedIn’s published 100 MB file-size and 36-megapixel limits. If it still fails, save or export a smaller JPEG or PNG copy and try again. Consult the live format table if you are using HEIF/HEIC or WebP, since listed support varies by device and the table may change.

The post preview does not look as expected

Image orientation and the number of images affect the layout. Inspect the preview before publishing; if a sequence or crop is important, adjust the image selection or order in the composer. Do not resize a standard photo post to an ad or link-preview specification unless you are actually creating that format.

You cannot find an option shown in these steps

LinkedIn may change interface labels or their placement, and mobile and desktop composers are not identical. Start from the feed’s Start a post control on desktop or the app’s Post icon, then look for Photo in the current sharing options. If the control is missing, try the other device interface or consult LinkedIn Help’s posting instructions.

Alt text is missing or seems inaccurate

Look for Alt.text below the uploaded image and add or correct the description when available. LinkedIn says automatic alt text may be assigned in some cases, and desktop and mobile uploaders receive different notifications about it; inspect the control rather than relying on a notification alone.

Or skip the browser setup

If you first need to turn a webpage into an image asset—for example, a screenshot of a page you intend to share—you can capture it with ScreenshotNeo, then attach the resulting file to LinkedIn yourself using the Photo steps above. ScreenshotNeo captures webpages; it does not create or publish a LinkedIn post. See the ScreenshotNeo website and API documentation.
