The simplest documented way to add a click-to-share quote box in WordPress is the Better Click To Share plugin. Install and activate it from Plugins → Add New, insert its block in your post (or use the /tweet slash command), then publish. Readers will see the quote and can open X with the quote and page link prefilled.
What a click-to-tweet box does
A click-to-tweet box presents a selected sentence or short passage in a prominent, styled container. When a reader clicks it, X (formerly Twitter) opens with that text and a link to the WordPress page ready in the share flow. The Better Click To Share plugin describes this as “One-click share on X — Readers see a styled quote box; one click opens X with your quote and your post link ready to post.”
This is a sharing feature, not a guarantee of additional traffic, followers or engagement. The available documentation describes the interaction, not a measured performance gain.

#1 Best Overall
Add a shareable quote with the block editor
- Edit the post or page where the box should appear.
- Open the block inserter with the + button.
- Search for the Better Click To Share block and insert it. In the editor, you can also type
/tweetand select the plugin’s block. - Enter the quote you want readers to share, and place the block where it fits the surrounding article.
- Save or update the post, then use the site’s preview to check the box on desktop and mobile.
The plugin’s documented behavior is to open X with the quote and a link to the post prefilled. The reader still reviews and submits the post on X.
Use the shortcode instead
The shortcode is useful when you work in a text-oriented editor or a page builder that processes WordPress shortcodes:
[bctt tweet="Your shareable quote here."]
Place the shortcode where the page builder or WordPress content field processes shortcodes. The plugin listing specifically mentions page builders including Elementor, Divi and WPBakery, but compatibility depends on the current versions and configuration of your site.

Block or shortcode?
| Option | Best for | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Plugin block | Editors who want a visual, point-and-click workflow | Easy to place and edit in the block editor; availability depends on the active editor and plugin version. |
[bctt] shortcode |
Classic editor fields and supported page builders | Portable as text and useful in builder layouts, but it will display correctly only where shortcodes are processed. |
Configure attribution and link options
- In the dashboard, open Settings → Better Click To Share.
- Enter an X username if you want the share text to include a “via @you” attribution.
- If your installation offers the optional short URL setting, configure it according to the plugin’s instructions.
- Save the settings and test a box from a logged-out or private-browser session.
Use an account name that readers will recognize, and check the resulting X composer before publishing so punctuation, attribution and the page link appear as intended.
Do not confuse click-to-share boxes with the Twitter Embed block
WordPress’s Twitter Embed block is designed to display an existing public post. You paste that post’s URL into the editor and choose Embed. It does not create a quote box that lets a reader share a sentence from your article.
| Goal | Use |
|---|---|
| Let readers share a quote from your WordPress page | Better Click To Share block or [bctt] shortcode |
| Display an existing public post from X | WordPress’s Twitter Embed block |
Writing quotes that work well in the box
- Choose a complete, understandable sentence rather than a fragment that needs the surrounding paragraph.
- Keep the wording concise enough to leave room for the page link and any attribution in X’s composer.
- Use one clear idea per box and place it next to the section it represents.
- Preview the generated share text before publishing, especially if the quote contains quotation marks, unusual punctuation or a URL.
Alternatives and compatibility checks
The WordPress.org click-to-tweet tag directory also lists plugins such as Social Snap, Click To Tweet and Share on Twitter Block. The directory is not a comparative review. Before choosing an alternative, check its current WordPress compatibility, recent maintenance and support activity, editor or page-builder support, styling controls and whether its button still opens a usable X sharing flow.
Quick Recap
Best Value
If the box does not appear
- Confirm that Better Click To Share is active and that the block or shortcode is present in the saved content.
- If you used a shortcode, verify that the specific editor or page builder processes shortcodes rather than displaying the text literally.
- Clear any page, object or CDN cache after changing the quote or settings.
- Temporarily test with other optimization or security plugins disabled only in a staging environment, then re-enable them one at a time to identify conflicts.
If X opens without the expected text or link
- Check the quote in the block or shortcode for unsupported or unclosed quotation marks.
- Review the Better Click To Share settings for the X username and optional short URL.
- Test the published page rather than an editor preview, and try a current browser with pop-ups allowed for the site.
- Remember that X and plugin behavior can change; verify the current plugin documentation and listing if the composer format has changed.
Before you publish
- The quote box appears in the intended position on the published page.
- The quote is accurate, self-contained and short enough to share with its link.
- Clicking the box opens X and pre-fills the expected quote and page URL.
- Any “via @username” attribution is correct.
- The box remains readable on a phone and does not obscure nearby content.
