You can add online table reservations to a WordPress restaurant site with a booking plugin. The Five Star Restaurant Reservations plugin documents a setup using a booking form block or the [booking-form] shortcode, plus controls for operating hours, booking intervals, advance reservations, notifications and reservation management.
The key is to configure availability and the staff workflow as carefully as the form itself. A form that accepts requests but shows the wrong hours—or sends notifications that never arrive—can create more problems than it solves.
Choose a reservation approach
For a booking form managed inside WordPress, Five Star Restaurant Reservations is a directly documented option. Its WordPress.org listing describes a restaurant-specific form, schedule settings, email notifications and an admin area for managing or manually entering bookings. The listing also describes some controls, including per-dining-block reservation or seat caps, custom fields and certain location-specific restrictions, as premium features. Check the current feature tiers before you rely on a particular control.
An external reservation platform may suit a restaurant that already uses that service. OpenTable’s official API documentation describes booking and reservation-data APIs and a partner application route, but that does not establish that a current WordPress widget is available to every restaurant, or confirm pricing, eligibility or availability in every region. Verify those details with OpenTable before choosing this route.

Do not assume restaurant ordering software also handles table reservations. WooCommerce’s Restaurant for WooCommerce listing describes a digital menu and online ordering system; the cited description does not establish table-booking capability.
Install the WordPress plugin
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New.
- Search for Five Star Restaurant Reservations, then install and activate it.
- Follow the onboarding walkthrough that starts after activation, if it appears.
The WordPress.org directory listing reported 10,000+ active installations when accessed in 2026. That is a directory count, not an independent measure of adoption or suitability for a particular restaurant.
Add the booking form to a page
- Open the plugin’s Basic settings and choose the page that will serve as the Booking Page.
- Edit that page and add the plugin’s Booking Form block. Alternatively, place
[booking-form]in the page content. - In the Basic settings, configure the minimum and maximum party size, date and time format, and the message shown after a successful booking.
- Save the page and settings, then visit the page as a guest to confirm the form appears where expected.
Use a clear page title such as “Reservations” and make the page easy to reach from the site’s navigation. The block and shortcode let you place the form on your own WordPress site rather than requiring a separate third-party reservation page.
Set when guests can book
In the plugin’s Booking Schedule settings, define the schedule that reflects how the restaurant actually takes reservations. Set operating hours and booking intervals, then specify how far in advance guests may reserve. Add schedule exceptions for closures, holidays or special events so the published availability does not conflict with service plans.

- Booking intervals: Choose the available time increments guests can select.
- Advance-booking limits: Set how far ahead the form should accept requests.
- Schedule exceptions: Adjust availability for dates that do not follow the usual schedule.
Party-size limits are not the same as a complete table-capacity system. If you need to cap total seats or bookings within each dining block, check whether the specific capacity controls you require are included in the plugin tier you plan to use.
Configure notifications and reservation handling
Set the notification triggers and recipient addresses in the plugin, and decide who on staff is responsible for reviewing incoming reservations. The plugin’s Bookings area is where staff can manage existing bookings or enter one manually. Define an internal routine for handling each request so that a notification is not mistaken for a completed staff action.

Do not treat installation as proof that email delivery works. The plugin listing identifies server mail problems as a common reason notifications fail. Submit a test booking and check that the expected customer and administrator messages arrive; if they do not, investigate the site’s mail delivery configuration before relying on automated alerts.

Before directing customers to the form, complete a booking from the public page and follow it through the restaurant’s normal handling process. Confirm each of these points:
- The selected Booking Page displays the form correctly on the live site.
- Guests cannot select dates or times outside the configured schedule.
- The minimum and maximum party sizes match the restaurant’s policy.
- The successful-booking message is accurate and does not promise more than the restaurant’s process delivers.
- Expected customer and administrator emails arrive.
- Staff can find and manage the test booking in the Bookings area.
Remove or clearly mark the test reservation afterward so it cannot be confused with a real guest booking.
When to choose another route
Use a WordPress-native plugin when you want to place a booking form on your own site and its schedule, notification and admin controls fit your operation. Consider an external platform if your restaurant already relies on its ecosystem, but confirm the current WordPress integration path and commercial terms directly with that provider. If multiple locations, detailed capacity rules or custom form fields are essential, verify those capabilities and their plan requirements before launch rather than assuming they are included by default.
The WordPress.org listing showed a 4.7-out-of-5 rating when accessed in 2026; ratings and review counts can change and are not a substitute for checking current compatibility, features and workflow fit.
