To accept Apple Pay on a WordPress store, connect a compatible payment gateway—usually through WooCommerce—and enable its Apple Pay checkout option. Installing WordPress by itself does not activate Apple Pay. For an eligible WooCommerce store, WooPayments is the simplest route: open Payments > Settings > Express Checkouts, enable Apple Pay / Google Pay, and save.
Stripe and PayPal Payments are alternatives, but their domain-verification steps differ. In every case, the button is shown only when the merchant, site, gateway, customer device and browser meet the relevant requirements.
Choose a gateway before changing checkout settings
Apple Pay is provided through a payment gateway integration, not through WordPress core. WooCommerce recommends WooPayments for most stores and also lists Stripe, PayPal Payments, Square, Authorize.Net, CyberSource, Moneris and Braintree as integrations that support Apple Pay. Availability and requirements differ by provider, merchant location and integration; check the provider’s current eligibility before choosing.

WooCommerce’s gateway comparison says WooPayments and Stripe do not require manual certificate generation and support WooCommerce Subscriptions; other providers’ requirements vary. Enable Apple Pay with WooPayments
WooPayments is the least involved setup for an eligible WooCommerce store. It creates the verification file and communicates readiness to Apple. In this integration, Apple Pay and Google Pay are enabled together.
- In the WordPress dashboard, go to Payments > Settings.
- Open Express Checkouts and select Apple Pay / Google Pay.
- Choose whether to show the button on checkout, cart and/or individual product pages. The settings also allow button text, size, color scheme and border-radius customization.
- Scroll down and save your changes.
- Test on an eligible Apple device using WooPayments test mode. The documented test uses payment details from the tester’s real Apple account without charging it; test cards do not work for this Apple Pay test. [WooPayments setup and testing]
Set up Apple Pay with Stripe for WooCommerce
Before enabling the button, check that Stripe supports your country and that your PHP, WordPress and WooCommerce versions meet the Stripe extension’s current requirements. The site must have a valid SSL certificate and load over HTTPS. [Stripe extension setup and configuration]

For Apple Pay, the server must have port 443 open and support TLS 1.2 or later. Enable your domain in Stripe’s payment-method domains settings; the official extension creates the required domain-association file automatically. [WooCommerce Stripe express checkout requirements]
- In WordPress, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Stripe > Payment Methods.
- Select the express checkout options you want, including Apple Pay / Google Pay, then save.
Apple Pay and Google Pay cannot be enabled separately through this extension.

Set up Apple Pay with PayPal Payments
PayPal’s route requires Apple Pay signup through the connected PayPal account and registration of every exact domain or subdomain where the button will appear. For example, example.com and www.example.com are separate registrations. The extension presents the association file, but you complete domain registration in PayPal. Enable Apple Pay in the WooCommerce PayPal Payments settings. The button appears beneath PayPal smart buttons in the enabled locations and is shown on eligible devices using Safari. For sandbox testing, the PayPal guide calls for a PayPal business account enabled for Apple Pay, a sandbox Apple ID with payment details, a registered domain and the correct association file. Test on an eligible device signed in to the relevant Apple ID, select Apple Pay and confirm the payment. The same guide warns that a validation file from another integration can interfere with PayPal Payments.

Why the Apple Pay button may not appear
- The gateway option is off. Confirm Apple Pay is enabled in the gateway actually used for checkout. Avoid enabling duplicate Apple Pay buttons through multiple gateways at the same location. [WooPayments troubleshooting]
- The site or domain is not ready. Use HTTPS across the site. With Stripe, also check port 443, TLS 1.2 or later and domain enablement in Stripe. With PayPal, verify that the exact domain or subdomain is registered.
- The device or browser is ineligible. Button visibility depends on Apple device and browser support as well as the gateway. With WooPayments, a saved Wallet card is needed to complete a payment, but not merely to display the button. On Mac, WooPayments shows the button in Safari; compatible third-party browsers on iPhone or iPad may also show it.
- Checkout or the product page is configured differently. If the button appears on a demo but not your store, inspect WooCommerce account and guest-checkout settings. If it is missing only on a product page, check whether the product is compatible and whether the theme supports the required WooCommerce hooks.
- WooPayments domain verification needs another attempt. Check WooCommerce > Status > Logs for verification details. WooCommerce suggests disabling and re-enabling Apple Pay / Google Pay to retry registration.
