Use openclaw browser screenshot to capture the current website page. Add --full-page for a full-page capture, --ref to capture a page element identified in a browser snapshot, or --labels to overlay references on the image. The supported options depend on the browser profile and driver: in particular, existing-session profiles do not support CSS-based --element captures.
Capture a website page with OpenClaw
OpenClaw’s browser CLI controls a browser tab and captures web content. A basic sequence is to navigate to the page, optionally inspect it, then take the screenshot:

Capture the current page:
openclaw browser screenshot.
These commands use the browser profile selected for the workflow. The CLI reference documents the commands and options below; it does not establish a universal output-file path or make every capture option available to every profile. Check the output and options supported by the profile you are using rather than assuming that one browser driver behaves exactly like another.
Choose what the screenshot should include
| What you need | Command | Important constraint |
|---|---|---|
| Current page | openclaw browser screenshot |
Captures the current browser page. |
| Full page | openclaw browser screenshot --full-page |
Cannot be combined with --ref or --element. |
| A target identified in a snapshot | openclaw browser screenshot --ref e12 |
Use a reference present in the current page snapshot; support depends on the profile. |
| A CSS-selected element | openclaw browser screenshot --element "main article" |
CSS-element screenshots are not supported by existing-session or user profiles. |
| A screenshot with target labels | openclaw browser screenshot --labels |
Label behavior and returned annotations depend on the driver. |
The CSS selector example illustrates the documented --element option; use it only with a profile and driver that support CSS-element capture. Likewise, e12 is an example reference, not a permanent identifier. Take a fresh snapshot when the page changes and use a reference shown in that snapshot.
Capture the full page
After navigating to the page, run openclaw browser screenshot --full-page. This requests a page capture rather than just the currently visible viewport. Full-page capture is a separate scope: it cannot be combined with --ref or --element. If you need a long page and a specific element, choose which requirement matters for that capture, or take separate captures using supported options.
Capture an element by reference or CSS selector
For a reference-based capture, inspect the page with openclaw browser snapshot, find the target’s reference, then pass it to --ref. For example, if the current snapshot identifies an element as e12, use openclaw browser screenshot --ref e12. References are tied to the page snapshot; after navigation or material page changes, inspect the page again instead of reusing an old reference.
Where supported, --element targets a CSS selector, such as main article. This can be useful when the desired target is easier to express as a selector than to identify through a snapshot. It is not a cross-profile substitute for --ref: existing-session and user profiles do not support CSS-element screenshots. Also, because full-page mode cannot be combined with either targeting option, an element capture is not a way to request a full-page image and crop a target in the same command.
Add labels to help identify targets
Run openclaw browser screenshot --labels to request a screenshot with current snapshot references overlaid. This can make it easier to see which page target corresponds to a reference you intend to use. Label overlays depend on the driver. Playwright-backed profiles can provide labels for full-page, reference and element-clipped captures, and return an annotations array containing bounding boxes. Existing-session profiles render a Chrome MCP overlay for page screenshots, but do not use the Playwright projection helper and do not return those annotations. CSS-element screenshots are unsupported for those profiles. Labeled screenshots require Playwright or Chrome MCP support.

Choose the right browser profile
The browser lane affects which browser OpenClaw controls and which screenshot capabilities are available. OpenClaw documents a managed openclaw profile, a built-in user profile, and remote CDP profiles.
| Profile path | What it connects to | Screenshot considerations |
|---|---|---|
Managed openclaw |
A dedicated, agent-only browser profile isolated from the personal browser profile. | Playwright-backed profiles support label projection and CSS-element captures as described in the CLI reference. |
Built-in user |
A real signed-in Chrome session attached through Chrome DevTools MCP. | Supports page and snapshot-reference screenshots, but not CSS --element screenshots; label overlays do not provide the Playwright bounding-box annotations. |
| Remote CDP profile | A browser behind a configured remote Chrome DevTools Protocol endpoint. | Uses the browser behind that endpoint. Available behavior depends on the configured browser and driver. |
Use the managed profile when you want an isolated browser session. The user profile is the documented route when a workflow needs an already signed-in Chrome session. A remote CDP profile is for a browser running elsewhere. Configuration examples cover these arrangements; executable-path overrides apply to local managed profiles, while an existing-session profile attaches to an already-running browser and a remote CDP profile connects through its configured endpoint.

For longer-running automation, prefer a stable suggestedTargetId or tab label where applicable. Raw target IDs are documented as volatile diagnostic handles, so a workflow that depends on one should not assume it remains valid across changes to the browser session.
Website screenshot or desktop screenshot?
Use the browser CLI when the subject is a website page or an element within that page. OpenClaw Computer Use has a separate screenshot action for capturing the desktop. It returns a frameId and does not accept window, browser, element or observation references. Do not treat that action as another spelling of the browser-page command: it operates on the screen rather than targeting a web page or DOM element.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Computer Use coordinate actions must correspond to the most recent frame and matching display identity. If the displayed scene may have changed, take a fresh screenshot before acting on coordinates. A browser screenshot is therefore the appropriate route for repeatable page or element captures; a Computer Use screenshot is for a task that genuinely needs the desktop image.
Reliability, timing and cost considerations
The documented workflow is command-based, but the available evidence does not establish a capture-time guarantee, retry policy, universal image output location, or OpenClaw price for this feature. Do not plan a pipeline around an assumed latency or billing model without checking the relevant configuration and service terms for the environment you run. The command reference documents capture scope and driver limitations, not an independent performance benchmark.
-
For a dynamic page, inspect the page state before capture and confirm that the intended content is present. The documented screenshot examples do not specify a universal wait strategy.
-
Use a fresh snapshot before reference targeting if navigation or page updates may have changed the targets.

Check the selected profile before debugging a missing option: CSS
--elementis unavailable on existing-session anduserprofiles, and label annotations differ by driver. -
For an isolated workflow, choose the managed browser profile; if a task must use an authenticated existing Chrome session, choose the documented
userpath with its narrower targeting support.
Troubleshooting common screenshot problems
The command cannot find the reference
Cause: The reference may not exist in the current snapshot, or the page may have changed since it was inspected. Fix: Run openclaw browser snapshot again and pass a reference shown for the current page to --ref.

CSS element capture is unsupported
Cause: The selected profile is an existing-session or user profile. Fix: Use a supported Playwright-backed profile for --element, or use a snapshot reference with --ref where the profile supports it.
Recommended Free Tools
Full-page capture cannot be combined with a target
Cause: --full-page is incompatible with --ref and --element. Fix: Run a full-page capture separately, or omit --full-page when you need a targeted capture.
Labels appear but there are no bounding-box annotations
Cause: The selected driver may use the existing-session Chrome MCP overlay rather than the Playwright projection helper. Fix: If you need the annotations array and bounding boxes, use a Playwright-backed profile. Existing-session profiles do not return those annotations.
The screenshot is of the wrong thing
Cause: A desktop screenshot and a browser-page screenshot capture different scopes, or the browser is attached to a different profile than expected. Fix: Use openclaw browser screenshot for the page and verify the active browser lane; use Computer Use only when the desktop itself is the intended image.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a website screenshot from an application or script rather than OpenClaw’s browser, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF; its parameter names also work with those used by other screenshot APIs. The example below requests a WebP capture.
