On Discord’s desktop app, stop detection for one game by opening User Settings > Activity Settings > Registered Games and switching off the eye-shaped Toggle Detection control beside it. To hide all shared activity instead, open Activity Sharing (called Activity Privacy in some versions) and turn off Share my activity.
Those options do different things: the first disables activity detection for a particular listed game; the second stops Discord from sharing activity more broadly. Use the steps below for the privacy outcome you want.
Stop Discord detecting one specific game
- Open the Discord desktop app and select the User Settings gear beside your username.
- Under Activity Settings, open Registered Games.
- Find the game in the list and select its eye-shaped Toggle Detection control to switch detection off.
This is the right choice if you want to hide one title but keep other games visible. Discord can still share activity for other enabled games if Share my activity is on. To show the game again, return to Registered Games and turn its detection control back on. Discord documents these individual controls in its Activity Sharing guide.

If the game is not listed, Discord’s current documentation says you can add a game through Registered Games; it generally needs to be open when you try. You do not need to add it just to stop sharing all activity—turn off the global sharing setting instead. If Discord has mistaken a launcher, utility, emulator, or other program for a game, look for that entry in Registered Games and disable its detection if available.

Hide all game activity from other people
- Open User Settings.
- Select Activity Sharing or, in some versions, Activity Privacy.
- Turn off Share my activity.
This is the simpler choice when you do not want Discord to share any game activity and do not want to manage titles one at a time. It is broader than the per-game toggle: Discord activity can also come from connected accounts and services, such as console accounts or music and video services. The exact interface and behavior can vary by account, platform, and region.
Turning off sharing does not necessarily mean Discord has stopped detecting a locally running game; it controls whether activity is shared. For Discord’s current explanation of the distinction and settings, see its Activity Sharing support page.
Hide activity in one server only
- Open the server where you want to limit activity visibility.
- Open the server’s dropdown menu and select Privacy Settings.
- Turn off Activity Status.
This setting is useful if you want activity hidden in one community but visible elsewhere. It is not a global privacy switch: Discord notes that friends may still see activity, and activity may remain visible through another server where sharing is allowed. Stop Spotify, Xbox, PlayStation, or another service from showing
A status supplied by a linked account is separate from PC game detection. If the activity does not appear in Registered Games—or remains after you disable a game there—check the connected service:
- Open User Settings > Connections.
- Select the relevant connected account.
- Turn off its activity or status-sharing control, such as Display as your status if that label appears.
Each connection can have its own sharing control. Disabling game detection does not automatically stop activity imported from Spotify, Xbox, PlayStation, Crunchyroll, or another linked service. Discord describes these sources and their controls in its Recent Activity FAQ.
Game detection, activity sharing, overlay, and notifications are separate

To turn off the overlay, open User Settings > Game Overlay and disable it globally, or adjust a per-game option if one is available. Use Registered Games or Activity Sharing to control game activity itself. For overlay-specific guidance, see Bethesda’s Discord overlay instructions.

If you only want to stop pop-up alerts, check User Settings > Notifications for game activity notifications. Discord describes these as separate notification controls; turning them off is not a substitute for changing activity privacy.

Stopping future detection or sharing may not remove an existing recent-game entry from your profile. Open your profile’s activity area, use the ellipsis menu, and select Clear Game History. This manages past activity; it does not disable detection of a game that is running now.
Discord also has a separate profile setting for whether recently played games appear on your profile. Its documentation says recent games may remain in profile history for up to one month and that up to four games may be displayed at once; these are profile-history details, not live detection behavior. If Discord still shows your activity
- Check the global setting: confirm Share my activity is off if you want to hide all activity. Turning off the overlay alone is not enough.
- Check the specific entry: in Registered Games, make sure that game’s Toggle Detection control is off.
- Check Connections: a console, music, or other connected service may be supplying the status independently.
- Check server privacy: turning off Activity Status in one server does not guarantee friends or people in another shared server cannot see activity.
- Refresh the status: stop and relaunch the game. If an old status remains, fully quit and reopen Discord.
- Separate live activity from history: use Clear Game History if the concern is an old profile entry rather than a currently running game.
- Identify what you are seeing: an overlay or notification is not the same as an activity status. Change the corresponding Game Overlay or Notifications setting if that is the actual problem.
Can you change this on a phone?
The Registered Games instructions apply to Discord’s desktop app on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Discord’s browser and mobile apps do not provide the same Registered Games controls. Some broader activity-sharing or connected-account settings may be available elsewhere, but do not expect the desktop per-game interface on a phone. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I hide one game but keep other games visible?
Yes. In the desktop app, open User Settings > Activity Settings > Registered Games and turn off Toggle Detection for that game. Leave other games enabled; global activity sharing must also be on for their activity to be shared.

Does turning off Discord’s Game Overlay stop game detection?
Not necessarily. Game Overlay controls the in-game interface. Use Registered Games to disable detection for one game, or Activity Sharing / Activity Privacy to stop sharing activity more broadly.

Why is Spotify still visible after I disabled a game?
Spotify activity can come from a linked account rather than Registered Games. Open User Settings > Connections, select Spotify, and disable its activity/status-sharing control.
Can Discord detect games while I am Invisible?
Presence status and activity-sharing controls are separate. To control what activity is shared, use Registered Games or turn off Share my activity; do not rely on Invisible status as the activity privacy setting.
How do I clear an old game from my profile?
Open your profile’s activity area, select the ellipsis menu, and choose Clear Game History. This clears past profile activity; it does not stop detection of a running game.
