Open Roblox.com, sign in, choose an experience, and click the green Play button. Your browser installs or opens the Roblox application; the full experience normally does not run inside the browser tab.
Launch Roblox from Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari
Roblox lists Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge for Windows, and Chrome, Firefox, and Safari for Mac. Update your browser before troubleshooting launch problems. Internet Explorer is not supported.
Use this sequence:
- Go to https://www.roblox.com/ and sign in.
- Search for or open an experience.
- Click Play.
- If Roblox is not installed, follow the installation prompt and finish installing it.
- Return to the experience page and click Play again.
- If the browser asks which application should open a
roblox-playerlink, select Roblox and approve the request. Choose a remember or always-allow option only on your own trusted computer. - Allow a short time for the application and experience to load.
Roblox describes this browser-to-application process in its official installation and play instructions. The exact dialog varies with your browser, operating system, permissions, and installation state.
Windows: install the current Roblox app
Roblox now directs Windows users toward the Microsoft Store app named Roblox – Windows. It has a blue icon. The older Microsoft Store listing is named Roblox and uses a light-gray icon.

If Roblox.com repeatedly asks you to install the player on Windows, install or update Roblox – Windows from the Microsoft Store, sign in with the same Roblox account, return to Roblox.com, and click Play again. Roblox says your account progress, friends, Robux, and inventory remain available after signing in to the new app. Once the new app is installed and you have successfully logged in, Roblox says the old app can be uninstalled. Mac: launch Roblox from the website
On macOS, open Roblox.com in Safari, Chrome, or Firefox, sign in, open an experience, click Play, complete the installation prompt, and click Play once more.
Firefox’s “choose an application” prompt
If Firefox asks how to open a roblox-player link:
- Select Always use this application to open roblox-player links.
- Click Choose.
- In Finder, press Command-Shift-G.
- Enter
/Applications/Roblox.app/Contents/MacOS/Roblox.appand press Return. - Select
Roblox.app, click Open, then click Open Link in the application dialog.
Roblox lists macOS 10.13 High Sierra and later as supported, including Apple Silicon/M1 systems. Its Mac troubleshooting page covers additional installation issues.

Chromebook and Linux users
ChromeOS
Roblox’s published requirements list ChromeOS version 53 or later with the Google Play Store enabled. Depending on the Chromebook, administrator policies, and Play Store availability, you may need the Roblox app route rather than expecting the desktop website alone to launch a browser client.
Linux
Roblox’s current computer requirements page says Linux is not supported. Do not treat unofficial launchers or compatibility layers as official solutions.

Work through these checks in order rather than immediately reinstalling:
- Confirm that your browser is supported and updated.
- Reload the experience page, then sign out of Roblox and sign back in.
- Look for a blocked pop-up, permission request, or external-application notification in the browser’s address bar.
- Temporarily disable extensions, especially ad blockers, and try Play again.
- Clear Roblox-related cookies and cached files.
- Close and reopen the browser, then restart the computer.
- Try another supported browser.
- On Windows, verify that Roblox – Windows is installed rather than only the older listing.
- Reinstall Roblox if the launch still fails.
Roblox identifies outdated browsers, security settings, extensions, ad blockers, cookies, and cache as possible causes of website or launch failures. Its guidance is available under general connection problems and general website issues.

If you reinstall
Close Roblox and other programs first. If you uninstall, restart the computer before reinstalling. Check firewall or security software if the new installation is still blocked. Roblox notes that uninstalling is not usually required before reinstalling, although Windows users should remove the old app after the current app is installed and confirmed working. Follow Roblox’s reinstall procedure.
If antivirus reports Roblox
Do not permanently disable antivirus protection. Update it, check whether Roblox was quarantined, and allow the official installation only if you trust it. Roblox discusses false positives and application restrictions at its third-party software guidance.

Roblox opens, but the experience will not load
This is a connection or experience-loading problem rather than a browser-launch problem. Possible causes include an unstable connection, firewall or antivirus interference, blocked Roblox traffic, an extension, a large experience taking longer to download, or a problem with that particular experience.

Roblox lists UDP ports 49152–65535 for its connections. Do not change router settings as a first step: port or firewall changes may require the network owner or an administrator, especially on school, work, public, or managed networks. Start with a different supported browser, a restart, extension checks, and security-software review. The connection troubleshooting guide has the advanced details.
“Open Roblox?” and application associations
Choose Roblox on Windows or Roblox.app on Mac, then approve opening the external application. Saving the choice is convenient on a personal computer. If the wrong program was selected, reset the browser’s external-link association or reinstall Roblox. A school or work device may prevent you from approving the launch or installing applications; contact its administrator instead of bypassing the restriction.
Roblox Player is not Roblox Studio
The Roblox application or Player runs experiences. Roblox Studio creates and edits them. The installation guide says Studio is installed by opening one of your own experiences, choosing the upper-right menu, and selecting Edit. Selecting Play is the route for joining an experience.
When to contact Roblox Support
If these steps fail, record your username, the exact error message, the experience URL, device model, operating-system version, browser name and version, and the steps that reproduce the problem. Include whether the application opens, closes immediately, or never appears. This information helps support distinguish a website, application, account, network, or experience-specific fault.
