You can’t install Google Chrome on a standard PS4. Sony documents an integrated Internet Browser for the console, but neither Sony nor Google provides a supported PS4 version or installation route for Chrome. To browse on the console, use its built-in browser; to use Chrome itself, open it on a supported computer or mobile device.
Open the PS4’s built-in Internet Browser
- From the PS4 home screen, select Internet Browser in the content area. If you don’t see it, check Library > Applications.
- Press Triangle if needed to show the browser’s search and address field.
- Enter a website address or search term using the on-screen keyboard, then confirm to load it. You can enter Google’s address to use Google Search; that does not install Chrome.
- Use the left stick to move the pointer and the right stick to scroll. L1/R1 go back and forward, and L3/R3 zoom out and in. Browser controls can vary slightly by system language or software version.

Why a Chrome download won’t work
Chrome installers are made for supported computer or mobile operating systems, and an Android APK is for Android. A PS4 does not offer a supported Chrome app in PlayStation Store or a normal way to install either kind of package. Copying an installer to a USB drive does not make it compatible with the console. Google’s Chrome installation guidance covers supported computer platforms; its Android instructions use Google Play on an Android device.
Be wary of downloads or guides promising “Chrome for PS4” through an APK, a Windows .exe, or a USB stick. Unofficial firmware modifications are not a supported browser-installation method and can create security, stability, update, account, and repair problems. Sony advises using documented methods and official system software; see its PS4 system software guidance.

What if a website does not work?
The PS4 browser can open websites, but that does not guarantee every modern site or Google service will behave as it does in current desktop Chrome. A site may depend on newer browser features, block the console browser, or have login, CAPTCHA, payment, video, or DRM requirements that do not work well there. Controller navigation can also make mouse-oriented pages awkward. These are possible compatibility issues, not proof that your internet connection is at fault.
Try reloading the page, closing extra browser windows, or using a mobile or desktop version if the site offers one. Clearing browser data may help with some loading problems, but it will not add missing browser capabilities. If the service has an official PS4 app, use that where available; app availability can vary by region and service. Otherwise, use a computer or phone/tablet for the site.

If the browser is missing or won’t open
- Look in Library > Applications.
- Check whether parental controls or profile restrictions are hiding access.
- Restart the console and check for an update under Settings > System Software Update.
- If the browser opens but pages fail, check the PS4’s internet connection and try again.
Menu names can vary a little by language or software version. Updating system software through the PS4’s documented settings is different from installing unofficial files.
Use real Chrome on a TV instead
If your goal is to see Chrome on the television, run Chrome on a supported device and connect that device to the TV—often by HDMI—or use a casting or mirroring method supported by your equipment. You can also use Chrome directly on a supported computer, Chromebook, Android phone, or tablet. On Android, Google directs users to install Chrome through Google Play. Casting availability and steps depend on the device and TV; none of these options installs Chrome on the PS4.

PS Remote Play is for the PS4, not Chrome
Remote Play streams and controls your PS4 from a compatible device. It can be useful if you want the PS4 interface on a computer, but it does not run Chrome on the console or turn its browser into Chrome. Sony’s PC and Mac setup guide gives these basic steps:
- Update the PS4 system software.
- On the console, enable Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings > Enable Remote Play.
- Go to Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4 > Activate.
- If you want to wake the console from rest mode, enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS4 from Network under Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode.
- Install PS Remote Play on the PC or Mac, sign in with the same PlayStation account, choose PS4, and connect.
Sony lists 5 Mbps upload and download as the minimum connection speed and recommends at least 15 Mbps for better performance. Connection problems can also involve Wi-Fi congestion, NAT, firewalls, or router settings; consult Sony’s Remote Play troubleshooting guide before changing router settings. Sony also supports Remote Play on certain Android TV and Google TV devices, including Android TV OS 12 or later, Google TV Streamer, and Chromecast with Google TV; see its Android TV guide. That still does not add Chrome to the PS4. PlayStation Portal is not an alternative for a PS4: Sony says it connects to PS5 consoles for Remote Play (compatibility details).
