There is no direct way to transfer an Amazon.com gift card or Amazon balance into PayPal. Amazon gift cards are closed-loop value for eligible Amazon purchases, not PayPal funding sources. An unredeemed card may, however, be sold through a legitimate gift-card exchange that offers PayPal payout. If you have already redeemed the code to an Amazon account, the balance generally cannot be withdrawn, refunded for cash, moved to another Amazon account, or sent to PayPal.
This guidance applies to Amazon.com and PayPal accounts in the United States. Exchange availability, identity checks, offers and payout timing can change; verify the live terms before submitting a claim code.

Can you add an Amazon gift card to PayPal?
No. PayPal does not provide a standard field for entering an Amazon.com claim code as a balance deposit or funding source. An Amazon.com gift card is different from a PayPal digital gift card and from an open-loop Visa or Mastercard prepaid card. Amazon Pay is also a separate service: Amazon.com gift cards cannot be used to pay third-party merchants through Amazon Pay.

Amazon describes gift-card use for eligible Amazon-related purchases, while its Amazon Pay guidance excludes them from third-party checkout. The practical route: exchange an unredeemed card
If the physical card or electronic code has never been redeemed, an exchange service may buy it and send proceeds to PayPal. This is a sale, not a technical transfer of Amazon balance. The service must accept that card, verify its value and issue an offer; none of those outcomes is guaranteed.
CardCash procedure
PayPal’s U.S. help page currently points users to CardCash for exchanging unwanted gift cards into a PayPal balance. Use the official site at cardcash.com, not a link supplied by a stranger.
- Confirm that the card is an Amazon.com card for the correct country, has a remaining balance and has not been redeemed.
- Open CardCash’s sell or exchange flow and select Amazon or Amazon.com.
- Enter the card’s balance to request a quote.
- Review the displayed offer, payout method, verification requirements and timing. Check specifically whether PayPal is available for this transaction.
- Continue only if the net amount and terms are acceptable.
- Submit the card number and PIN only through the official HTTPS CardCash flow.
- Connect a verified PayPal account when instructed and sign in at PayPal’s own login page.
- Save the confirmation, transaction ID and communications. Do not spend, resubmit or disclose the code elsewhere while the transaction is pending.
- Confirm that the payment has arrived in PayPal before treating the exchange as complete.
PayPal documents this general sequence—merchant and balance, GET OFFER, card number and PIN, then PayPal connection—at its gift-card help page. The live CardCash interface and eligibility rules can differ.

What you need before submitting the code
- Legal ownership of the card and proof of purchase if requested.
- An active, verified PayPal account.
- A willingness to accept less than face value.
- A private, unused claim code that has not been posted or sent to another person.
Why the PayPal amount is usually lower
Exchange services price in fraud, chargeback, resale and operating risk, so an offer is normally below the card’s face value. Do not rely on a fixed “90%” or “95%” promise. Enter the details into the service’s quote tool and judge the dated offer after any commission or payout fee. A quote is not necessarily an instant final payment; review, fraud screening or account limitations can delay or reverse a transaction.
What if the Amazon card was already redeemed?
Once a code is added to an Amazon account, it becomes Amazon account balance rather than a transferable code. In the normal U.S. Amazon.com case, there is no withdrawal button, PayPal transfer or account-to-account move. Amazon’s gift-card terms and Amazon Pay guidance should control your specific account and card.
Do not redeem a card first if your intention is to sell it. Amazon balances are also generally restricted from buying other gift cards, prepaid open-loop cards or cards for resale. Buying a Visa, Mastercard or PayPal card with Amazon balance is not a dependable workaround.

Alternatives when direct conversion is unavailable
Spend the balance on eligible Amazon purchases
This is usually the least risky choice for a redeemed balance. Use it for products or services eligible under the card’s terms rather than attempting account manipulation or a chargeback.

GCX supports gift-card listings, but it is not a guaranteed PayPal route. Its current terms state that seller commissions may reach 15% of the sale price, listing fees may apply, electronic cards need at least a $5 balance, listings cannot exceed $2,000 face value, and sellers must be U.S. residents transacting in the United States. The terms describe ACH as the standard seller payout method, so compare the net proceeds and timing before listing.
Sell to someone you genuinely trust
A friend or family member may agree on a price, but private trades lack a reliable dispute process. Never send the code first to an unknown buyer. PayPal payments can be disputed or reversed, and PayPal protection should not be assumed for gift-card or other cash-equivalent trades.

Ask the original purchaser about an error before redemption
The purchaser may be able to address an accidental order or payment issue. Do not promise that Amazon will routinely cancel or cash out a gift card; exceptions depend on Amazon’s review and applicable law.

Requests for a code, fee or unusual payment
- Anyone asking for the claim code by phone, text, email or social media before independently verifying the service.
- “Activation,” “release,” “verification” or tax fees required before PayPal funds can be sent.
- Offers substantially above face value or links from unsolicited messages.
- Fake Amazon or PayPal support claiming that a gift-card code guarantees a transaction.
- Requests to use PayPal Friends and Family with an anonymous trader.
Amazon warns against sending gift-card claim codes as payment or to a merchant claiming that Amazon or Amazon Pay guarantees a deal. Read Amazon’s warning.
No offer is available
A service may reject the merchant, country, card format, balance range, promotional status or an already redeemed code. Confirm the marketplace and balance, then either use the card on Amazon or compare one other established marketplace. Do not submit the same code to a series of unknown sites.

The card is rejected after submission
Possible causes include a wrong PIN, a changed or exhausted balance, ownership concerns or failed verification. Stop sharing the code, retain proof of purchase and contact the service through its official support channel. If you believe the card was compromised, contact Amazon promptly; recovery is not guaranteed.
PayPal payout is delayed
Check PayPal notifications and the service’s transaction status. Do not send another code or pay a supposed release fee. Use only the exchange service’s official support page and PayPal’s Resolution Center.

Before you choose an exchange
- Compare the net payout, not just the headline offer.
- Check whether PayPal, ACH, check or another payout method is actually available for your card.
- Read eligibility rules for country, merchant, balance, promotional cards and partially used cards.
- Understand identity verification and what personal information is collected.
- Keep records until payment is received and the transaction is final.
- Consider tax or reporting consequences of a sale based on your circumstances and location.
