“Font size” in Yahoo Mail can mean two different things. To change the text size in new messages, use More options → Settings → Writing email → Default rich-text font. To enlarge the inbox, menus, or received messages on a desktop, use browser zoom instead. On a phone, use the device’s font settings; iPhone and iPad users can also use Yahoo’s AA reading control.
Change the default font size for new Yahoo emails
These steps apply to the current New Yahoo Mail desktop experience:
- Open Yahoo Mail in a desktop browser.
- Click the More options icon.
- Select Settings.
- Open Writing email.
- Find Default rich-text font.
- Choose the preferred font size and style.
Yahoo saves the selection automatically, so you can leave Settings when finished. This setting controls the formatting used for new outgoing rich-text messages. It does not enlarge the Yahoo Mail interface or automatically reformat messages you receive.
It also does not change emails you have already sent.

Menu names and availability can vary by account or region. If your layout looks different, you may be using an older Yahoo Mail interface.
Change the font size in one email only
To format a single message without changing your default:

- Click Compose.
- Type your message, or select text you have already entered.
- Use the formatting toolbar at the bottom of the compose window.
- Choose a font size. You can also change the font family, color, or style.
Yahoo’s email-writing guide says you can hover over toolbar icons to identify their functions. If the toolbar is not visible, expand the compose window or look for the formatting control at the bottom of the pane.

Check whether the message is in Plain Text mode
Font-size styling requires rich-text or HTML composition. In the compose window, open More options and choose Plain Text to switch modes. To restore the formatting controls, use the same menu and switch back to Rich Text.

A plain-text email does not carry normal font-size styling. If the size selector is missing, this is one of the first settings to check.
Make Yahoo Mail larger or smaller on your desktop screen
If you want larger inbox rows, folders, buttons, menus, subject lines, and received-message text, use your browser’s zoom control:

Yahoo documents these standard browser-zoom shortcuts in its browser text-size guidance. Browser zoom changes how the page is displayed on your screen; it does not set the font style of an email you send. The trade-off is that fewer messages and controls may fit on screen at higher zoom levels.

iPhone and iPad
Yahoo recommends adjusting your device’s system text settings for broader app text changes. While reading an email, Yahoo also documents an in-message control:

- Open or select an email.
- Tap AA in the upper-right corner.
- Move the slider to make the reading text larger or smaller.
Yahoo identifies this AA reading widget as an iOS-only feature. The exact system-font path depends on your iOS or iPadOS version, but it is generally found in the device’s accessibility or display-and-text settings.
Android phones and tablets
Use the phone’s Display, Font size, Screen zoom, or Accessibility settings. Labels vary among manufacturers and Android versions. Yahoo does not document the iOS-style AA control as a universal Android feature.
What to do if the font-size option is missing
- You are changing the wrong setting: use Settings → Writing email for a permanent outgoing-message default, or the compose toolbar for one message.
- The toolbar is hidden: expand the compose window and check the bottom of the message pane for formatting controls.
- You are using Plain Text: open the compose window’s More options menu and switch back to Rich Text.
- You are in the mobile app: the desktop Default rich-text font path may not appear. Use device text settings, or the iOS AA control while reading.
- Your menus differ: Yahoo maintains separate guidance for New Yahoo Mail and its older desktop experience, and the available interface can vary by account or region.
Yahoo’s older desktop instructions include separate appearance controls for themes, message layout, the preview pane, inbox spacing, and display customization. Those instructions apply to the old desktop version and should not be assumed to exist in every current account.

The Default rich-text font setting is an outgoing-mail preference. It affects how new rich-text messages are composed, not the original formatting of messages sent by other people. For received mail, use browser zoom on desktop, device text settings on mobile, or the iOS AA control when available.
Likewise, selecting a font size before sending does not guarantee that the recipient will see exactly the same typeface or size. Their email app, browser, device settings, and message-format support can affect how the message appears.
