To change a game’s launch options in the EA app, open Library or My Collection, open the game tile’s three-dot menu, choose View properties, edit Advanced launch options, and select Save. The command itself must be supported by that specific game; the EA app does not accept every legacy Origin launch command.
Change launch options in the EA app
- Open the EA app on Windows.
- Open Library or My Collection.
- Find the game and select its three-dot menu.
- Choose View properties.
- Find Advanced launch options.
- Enter the launch argument supplied by the game’s official documentation or support instructions.
- Select Save, then launch the game normally.
EA’s current interface uses View properties. Older Origin guides may instead say Game Properties; that is an outdated path for the EA app. Labels can vary slightly between EA app releases and library views.

What launch options do
Launch options are command-line arguments passed to a game when it starts. Depending on the game, they can select a graphics API, enable a developer console, apply a frame-rate limit, force windowed or borderless mode, enable diagnostic behavior, or help troubleshoot a startup problem.

They do not universally improve performance. A command may be unsupported, obsolete, ignored, restricted by anti-cheat, or valid only for one game version. Use the syntax documented for your particular title rather than relying on a generic list of EA commands.
How to enter one launch option
A simple argument may look like this:
-commandAn argument with a value may look like this:
+fps_max 144These are illustrative formats, not universal EA commands. A game may require a leading hyphen, a plus sign, a value, quotation marks, or a particular argument order. Do not add punctuation or quotation marks unless the game’s instructions require them.
How to enter multiple options
Multiple arguments are usually separated by spaces:
-command-one -command-two +setting valueExact syntax remains game-specific. Some options require a value immediately after them, while others require a quoted path if the path contains spaces. Copy the documented command exactly and avoid combining commands unless the game’s support documentation says they can be used together.

Example: an Apex Legends launch option
An EA community solution documents this Apex Legends example:
-eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.jsonEnter it in Advanced launch options, select Save, and launch Apex normally. This is an Apex-specific example for the relevant troubleshooting use case. It should not be copied into unrelated EA games or treated as a general graphics command.

Edit or remove launch options
Edit an option
- Return to the game’s three-dot menu and select View properties.
- Select the existing text in Advanced launch options.
- Replace or modify the command.
- Select Save.
- Restart the game.
Remove all options
- Open the same properties page.
- Delete everything in Advanced launch options.
- Select Save.
- Fully close and relaunch the EA app, then start the game again.
Clearing the field is the quickest rollback if a command causes a crash, prevents startup, or produces unexpected behavior.

How to tell whether an option worked
The EA app generally does not show a universal confirmation that a game accepted a launch argument. Check for an effect appropriate to the command:

- A graphics API switch may appear in the game’s graphics settings or diagnostic display.
- A frame-rate limit can be checked with the game’s performance overlay or a trusted monitoring tool.
- A developer-console option may expose a console or additional menu.
- A troubleshooting option may only be verified by whether the original error changes.
A command remaining in the saved text field does not prove that the game supports or used it.
If Advanced launch options is missing
- Confirm that you are using the EA app, not an old Origin guide.
- Open the game tile’s three-dot menu; do not open Windows shortcut properties.
- Check that the game is installed and visible in the EA app library.
- Restart and update the EA app.
- Clear the EA app cache by opening the menu, choosing Help, selecting App recovery, and choosing Clear cache. On Windows 10 and 11, App Recovery can also be opened from the EA folder in the Start menu. See EA’s cache instructions.
- Open the game’s three-dot menu and choose Repair if the installation may be damaged. EA documents this process in its game loading and installation troubleshooting guide.
Cache clearing may help with EA app state, library, or update problems, but it does not validate a command or guarantee that the launch-options field will appear.
If launch options keep disappearing
Players have reported cases in which the EA app saves advanced launch options and later loses them. The normal in-app field should remain the first choice. EA forum users have described unofficial workarounds involving EA Desktop configuration files, EALaunchHelper.exe, or a custom origin2://game/launch/ URI.

If you investigate one, back up the relevant files first and make sure you have a clear rollback method. Do not make EA configuration files read-only as a first-line fix.

See the reported issue and workaround discussion on the EA community forum. Prefer the in-app setting whenever it is available.
If the game will not launch afterward
- Open the game’s View properties page.
- Delete the newly added argument.
- Select Save.
- Fully restart the EA app and try the game again.
- If it still fails, open the game’s three-dot menu and choose Repair.
- Clear the EA app cache through Help → App recovery → Clear cache.
- Check the game developer’s official support documentation for the correct command and supported game versions.
- If necessary, submit diagnostic information with the EA Error Reporter.
Do not keep testing multiple undocumented commands at once. Remove all options, confirm that the unmodified game launches, then add only the documented argument you need.

No. The presence of an Advanced launch options field does not mean that every game accepts every argument entered there. Older games may support legacy Origin commands that no longer work, and EA guidance says the EA app does not support all advanced launch commands that Origin supported.
Anti-cheat systems, online services, patches, game-specific launchers, and executable changes can cause an argument to be ignored or rejected. A command documented for Steam may also require different handling in the EA app. Treat the game developer’s current documentation as the authority.

EA app versus Steam or Epic Games Store
If the game is purchased, installed, and started through Steam, Steam’s Launch Options field may be the relevant location. For an Epic Games Store installation, Epic’s launch-argument setting may be relevant. When the EA app is only opened as a secondary launcher, the effective behavior depends on the particular game and launcher arrangement.
Use the launch-options field belonging to the platform that actually starts the game, and follow the game’s own documentation. A command that works in one launcher may not transfer unchanged to another.

A Windows shortcut can sometimes help when the EA app field is unavailable, but it is not the preferred general method. A shortcut may start an EA helper rather than the game directly, and its executable path, offer ID, URI syntax, or authentication requirements may be title-specific.
Shortcuts can also break after EA app or game updates. Use one only as an advanced, game-specific workaround, keep a backup of any modified configuration, and retain the normal EA app launch path for authentication and repair.
