Yes—PS5 and PC players can play Minecraft together if both use Bedrock Edition. On PC, launch Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock), not Java Edition. Both players need Microsoft accounts and must add each other by Xbox gamertag; the PS5 player also needs PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer. Then join through a hosted world or a Bedrock Realm.
The setup at a glance
- PS5: Minecraft for PlayStation 5, a linked Microsoft account, internet access, and PlayStation Plus for online play.
- PC: Minecraft Bedrock Edition for Windows, a Microsoft account, and internet access. No Java installation or separate PC console-style online subscription is needed.
- Both: Use the same current Bedrock update, add each other by Microsoft/Xbox gamertag, and allow multiplayer in account and world settings.
The native PS5 version launched on October 22, 2024, and supports cross-play with other Bedrock devices. Mojang also said existing PS4 Minecraft owners could claim the native PS5 version at no additional charge. Minecraft’s PS5 release announcement has the details.

Choose the right PC edition
“Minecraft on PC” can mean Java or Bedrock. The PS5 version is Bedrock, so the PC player must also launch Bedrock for ordinary supported cross-play.

Link a Microsoft account on PS5
- Open Minecraft on PS5 and choose Sign in with a Microsoft Account.
- The game displays a code and a web address. On a phone or computer, open the displayed address.
- Enter the code shown in Minecraft and sign in with the Microsoft account you intend to use.
- Return to the game and choose Let’s Play when prompted.
Screen wording can vary with updates. Use the in-game account-linking prompt as the authority. Choose the correct Microsoft account before linking: purchases, Realms, and other account-associated content are tied to the account used. See Minecraft’s Microsoft account guidance.
Add each other and join a regular world
- Both players sign in to Microsoft accounts in Minecraft.
- In the game’s Friends or Add Friend area, search for the other player’s Microsoft/Xbox gamertag and send or accept the friend request.
- The host chooses Play, then creates a Bedrock world or opens an existing one. Check that multiplayer is enabled in that world’s settings.
- The other player opens the Friends area and selects the host’s joinable world.
Use the Xbox gamertag—not the PlayStation Network ID, Steam name, or email address. These names identify accounts on different services; Minecraft’s cross-platform friend list uses the Microsoft/Xbox identity. Menu labels may differ slightly across platforms and updates.

A normal hosted world is the simplest choice for occasional sessions and does not require a Realm subscription. Its main limitation is that the host generally has to be playing for friends to join; it is not a persistent server that friends can enter whenever they want. Minecraft’s multiplayer guidance explains the available ways to play with others.
Use a Realm for a world that stays available
A Bedrock Realm is an optional private, always-online world. The owner can create a Realm, start a new world or upload a Bedrock world, and invite the other player by gamertag or an available invite method. Invited friends can play while the owner is offline without buying their own Realm subscription. The PS5 player still needs PlayStation Plus for online play.

Make sure it is a Bedrock Realm, not a Java Realm: the two editions’ Realms are separate. Minecraft’s Realms page describes cross-device support and plan limits; its purchase guide covers setup.
As displayed on Minecraft’s official U.S. Realms page on August 18, 2026, Bedrock Realms was listed at $3.99 USD per month for the owner plus two simultaneous players, and Bedrock Realms Plus at $7.99 USD per month for the owner plus 10 simultaneous players. Java Realms was listed at $7.99 but is for Java players, so it is not the plan for a PS5-and-PC Bedrock group. These are U.S. list-price signals, not guaranteed checkout totals: currency, taxes, platform storefront, and terms can vary. A Realm is worthwhile for a persistent shared world, but unnecessary if the host can be online whenever the group plays.

What the players need to pay for
- PS5 online play: Minecraft says PlayStation consoles require PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer. A Microsoft account does not replace that console service. No current PS Plus price is included here; check PlayStation’s official page for current terms.
- PC: The PC player needs an entitlement that includes Bedrock for Windows and a Microsoft account. If buying the current Java-and-Bedrock PC package, launch its Bedrock component. Minecraft identifies internet access, rather than a separate console-style network subscription, for PC online play.
- Realm: Only the Realm owner pays for the Realm subscription; invited friends do not need their own Realm. Realms is optional, not a requirement for joining a host’s regular world.
If you cannot see or join the world
- Check the PC edition first. If the PC player launched Java, switch to Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock). This is the most common edition mismatch.
- Verify the gamertag. Search using the Microsoft/Xbox gamertag, then confirm the friend request was accepted. A PSN ID or Steam name will not substitute.
- Confirm PS Plus. If the PS5 account can sign in but cannot join online multiplayer, verify that the account has the required active PlayStation Plus access.
- Check multiplayer permissions. Confirm multiplayer is enabled in the host’s world settings. Microsoft/Xbox privacy settings must also allow multiplayer and, where applicable, Clubs and invitations.
- Check child or teen account controls. A parent or account administrator may need to permit multiplayer, invitations, and communication. Minecraft’s account guidance and parental-controls article explain these settings.
- Update both games. Install the latest compatible Bedrock update on each device, close and restart Minecraft, and try again. An incompatible-version message usually means the clients do not match.
- Check the Realm’s edition. A Java Realm cannot host the PS5 player. Use a Bedrock Realm.
- Investigate network or content restrictions. Restart both devices, confirm both players appear online, and remove and re-add the friend if needed. Router, firewall, NAT, or parental-control restrictions can block connections. If a world stopped working after adding content, test compatible Bedrock add-ons one at a time and back up the world before changing settings. A Realm can help distinguish a host-world or home-network issue, but it cannot fix the wrong edition or blocked account permissions.
The standard Friends-list and Realm methods require no server IP, console command, or port-forwarding setup. Third-party dedicated servers have their own instructions and are not necessary for this setup; do not assume that changing router ports will fix an account or edition mismatch.

Not through ordinary official cross-play. The PS5 player uses Bedrock, so the PC player must use Bedrock too. Special third-party bridge projects or server configurations may try to connect Java and Bedrock players, but they are not the standard supported route, may not work reliably with console connections, and can bring version, moderation, account, or gameplay differences. For a straightforward session, use Bedrock on both devices.
What about mods and add-ons?
Java mods are not available in the PS5 version, and a modded Java client cannot simply join a standard PS5 Bedrock world. Bedrock players can use supported Marketplace content and add-ons, but compatibility can vary by item and device. If friends cannot join after content changes, test with a backed-up world and remove or re-enable Bedrock add-ons individually. Do not assume a Java mod or a purchase made on one platform carries over unchanged to another; Minecraft notes platform-specific Marketplace currency and content considerations on its edition page.
