The fastest way to find the address you use with Gmail is to open Gmail, then click or tap your profile picture or initial in the top-right corner. The account menu shows the signed-in account’s email address. On a personal Gmail account this usually ends in @gmail.com, but a Google Account can also use a non-Gmail address. A recovery email, alternate email, or phone number is not necessarily your Gmail address.
Find your address on a computer
- Open Gmail.
- If your inbox loads, select the profile picture or initial in the top-right corner.
- Read the address shown beside or beneath the account name and profile image.
- Copy it carefully, including the username and domain.
You can use the same method in another signed-in Google service, such as Search, Drive, or YouTube: select the profile picture or initial and read the Google Account email displayed in the menu. Google describes this account-menu location in its account help.
Verify it in Google Account settings
- Go to myaccount.google.com.
- Select Personal info.
- Under Contact info, select Email.
- Look for Google Account email. That is the primary address, rather than a recovery or notification address.
Google may show different labels or place them differently depending on your account type, browser language, and interface version. You do not need to edit the email setting just to read the address.

Find it in the Gmail app
Android
- Open the Gmail app.
- Tap your profile picture in the top-right, near the search bar.
- Read the address for the currently selected account.
- If several accounts are listed, tap each account to match the address with the inbox you want.

iPhone or iPad
- Open Gmail.
- Tap the profile picture in the top-right.
- Review the listed accounts and their addresses.
- Select an account to open its inbox.
These steps are covered in Google’s Gmail for iPhone and iPad help. If Gmail is not installed, use the browser method below rather than relying on Apple Mail’s account list, which may contain several unrelated mail accounts.
Find it through Android Settings
This route is useful if Gmail is missing or not working:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Google.
- Tap your name or account.
- Select Manage your Google Account.
- Open Personal info.
- Tap Email.
- Read the entry labeled Google Account email.
The exact wording can vary by Android version. Google documents this account path at its Android account-help page.

Find it on an iPhone or iPad without the Gmail app
- Open myaccount.google.com in a browser.
- Sign in if prompted.
- Select Personal info.
- Under Contact info, select Email.
- Check Google Account email.
This identifies the Google Account address, even when Apple’s Mail app is configured with a different account.
Recover a forgotten address when you are signed out
If you cannot open any signed-in Google service, use Google’s official Find your email recovery page:
- Enter the phone number or recovery email already associated with the account.
- Provide the account holder’s name when requested.
- Complete Google’s verification steps.
- Review any matching usernames or instructions sent to the recovery contact.
Recovery information must already be linked to the account, and Google may be unable to identify it without enough matching details. A phone number does not automatically reveal every Google Account belonging to a person.

When several Google accounts are signed in
Do not assume the first account in the menu is the active inbox. Open the profile menu, compare each displayed address with the inbox currently open, and select the account you intend to use. When composing a message, check the From field; Gmail can be configured with more than one sending address. A previous message sent from the account or a test message to an address you control can provide an additional confirmation.

For the primary address, look specifically for the field labeled Google Account email. Google explains these distinctions in its email and account settings help.
What if the address does not end in @gmail.com?
Google Accounts can be created with an existing Outlook, Yahoo, employer, or school address. In that case, the Google Account email is not a Gmail mailbox address, even though it is used to sign in to Google services. Google describes this arrangement in its non-Gmail account guidance.

Work and school Google Workspace accounts may use a custom domain such as [email protected]. Your organization can control aliases, recovery, and address changes, so contact the administrator if the normal options are unavailable.
Troubleshooting
Only a phone number appears
A phone number can be an available sign-in method, but it is not necessarily your email address. Open the profile menu or the Google Account email setting to see the address.

Use the profile-picture menu to switch accounts, then compare the selected address with the inbox and the From field of a new message.

The email setting cannot be opened
Some account types, including certain organization-managed accounts, restrict or hide email settings. To identify the address, use the profile menu instead; editing the setting is not required.
You forgot the address and recovery details
Try Google’s username-recovery page with every phone number or recovery address that may have been linked. If verification fails, avoid third-party “Gmail finder” services: they are unnecessary and may request sensitive information or be fraudulent.
You are looking for someone else’s address
Google does not provide a public lookup for arbitrary Gmail addresses. Check prior correspondence or ask the person to share the address directly.

Confirm the address safely
- Compare the profile menu with the inbox you are using.
- Check the From field when starting a message.
- Inspect the sender details of an older message you sent.
- Send a test message to another address you control.
- Verify Google Account email in account settings.
Do not share your password, verification code, recovery code, or a screenshot containing sensitive account details. An email address is not a password, but posting it publicly can increase spam and phishing risk.
