The laptop behind the “world’s first 4320Hz PWM OLED display” claim is HONOR’s MagicBook Art 14, launched in China in July 2024. HONOR and contemporary reports described its 14.6-inch OLED touchscreen as the first laptop display to use 4320Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
That is a historical, attributed launch claim—not a permanent statement that no later laptop uses similar technology. More importantly, HONOR says the 4320Hz dimming mode applies at low screen brightness, so it does not guarantee flicker-free behavior or perfect comfort at every brightness level.
What is the HONOR MagicBook Art 14?
The original 2024 HONOR MagicBook Art 14 is an extremely thin and light Windows laptop built around a high-resolution OLED touchscreen. It was launched in China on July 12, 2024, and later presented internationally at IFA Berlin in September.
The most defensible version of the headline is: HONOR introduced what it described as the world’s first laptop with a 4320Hz PWM-dimming OLED display. That wording identifies both the product and the limit of the claim. It is narrower than calling the laptop universally “flicker-free.”

HONOR’s official product page advertises 4320Hz high-frequency dimming, TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free certification and Low Blue Light certification.
What does 4320Hz PWM dimming do?
PWM means pulse-width modulation. A display using PWM controls perceived brightness by switching its light output on and off rapidly and changing the proportion of time it remains illuminated.
In this case, 4320Hz refers to the approximate frequency of those brightness-control pulses. It is not the screen’s image refresh rate. The MagicBook Art 14 has a 120Hz refresh rate, which describes how often the displayed image can update. The 4320Hz figure describes a separate brightness-control process.

A higher PWM frequency generally makes individual pulses shorter and less perceptible to many people. However, PWM frequency alone does not describe modulation depth, waveform, brightness behavior across the entire range or the experience of every user.
The important catch: 4320Hz is not active at every brightness level
HONOR’s own specification note says that 4320Hz high-frequency dimming takes effect only at low screen brightness. This is the qualification that launch headlines often leave out.

That means a buyer should not assume the laptop behaves identically at 20%, 50% and 100% brightness. The exact result can also depend on the display mode, firmware, measurement method and regional configuration. Anyone who is highly sensitive to OLED flicker should test the exact laptop at the brightness levels they normally use, or look for independent measurements of that specific configuration.
Is it really the world’s first?
HONOR and several technology-news reports called the 2024 MagicBook Art 14 the first laptop with 4320Hz PWM dimming. The available evidence supports describing this as a launch-era industry and manufacturer claim, rather than a universally audited historical fact.
It is also important not to confuse “first laptop promoted with 4320Hz PWM dimming” with “first flicker-free laptop.” Those are different claims. The 2025 MagicBook Art 14 continues to advertise 4320Hz PWM dimming, so the original headline should be understood in its 2024 context.

What changed in the 2025 model?
The HONOR MagicBook Art 14 2025 is a separate generation, not simply a renamed 2024 model. It uses Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors, including Ultra 5 225H and Ultra 7 255H configurations, while retaining HONOR’s 4320Hz PWM-dimming claim.

HONOR also advertises up to 1600 nits peak brightness for the 2025 version. That is a conditional peak figure triggered under specified HDR or automatic-brightness conditions; it should not be interpreted as ordinary sustained brightness in every mode.

No. The technology may be attractive to people who are uncomfortable with lower-frequency PWM, but it cannot guarantee that every user will be comfortable.
- Engineering claim: the display uses high-frequency PWM dimming.
- Certification claim: HONOR says it has TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free and Low Blue Light certifications.
- User-experience claim: some people may find it more comfortable than displays using lower-frequency modulation.
- Medical claim: the laptop does not guarantee prevention of headaches, eyestrain, migraines or other symptoms.
HONOR states that the product is not medical equipment. “Flicker Free” should therefore be read as a certification under stated testing conditions, not as a promise that the display is symptom-free or flicker-free for every person and brightness setting.

Before importing one, check the exact keyboard layout, Windows language, charger plug, seller legitimacy, return policy, repair arrangements and warranty coverage. A global presentation at IFA does not mean worldwide retail availability.
Who should consider it?
The MagicBook Art 14 makes the most sense for buyers in supported markets who want a very light laptop, a spacious 3:2 OLED screen and a high-frequency PWM implementation. Its integrated graphics and thin design suit productivity, travel, writing, browsing, media and general creative work.
It is a weaker choice for buyers who need a discrete GPU for demanding gaming, 3D work or GPU rendering; require straightforward US warranty service; or need a guarantee that high-frequency dimming remains active at every brightness level.
The 2025 version is the more relevant option if you want the newer Intel platform and its higher conditional HDR brightness claim. The Snapdragon variant, listed on HONOR’s specification page, should be considered separately because ARM software and driver compatibility can differ from Intel systems.

Bottom line
The 2024 HONOR MagicBook Art 14 was a notable display milestone: HONOR promoted it as the first laptop with a 4320Hz PWM-dimming OLED screen. But 4320Hz is not the refresh rate, is not necessarily active at all brightness levels and is not a medical or universal comfort guarantee.
For PWM-sensitive shoppers, the useful question is not simply “Does it have 4320Hz?” It is “How does this exact regional model behave at the brightness levels I use, and can I return it if it causes discomfort?”
