HBO Max’s “biggest expansion yet” happened on March 26, 2026—not two days from now. The launch brought HBO Max directly to the UK and Ireland while also adding 12 Asia-Pacific countries and territories. In the UK, it combined HBO, Warner Bros., DC, Max Originals, Discovery programming and TNT Sports in one streaming ecosystem.
The original “in just 2 days” headline was published on March 24, 2026. The countdown has now passed, so the figures below should be treated as launch information; prices, plan terms and catalogues may change. Check HBO Max’s official signup page for current offers.

What launched on March 26?
Warner Bros. Discovery launched HBO Max directly in the UK and Ireland on March 26, 2026. The same international expansion added 12 Asia-Pacific markets: Bhutan, Fiji, Kiribati, the Maldives, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu. New Zealand was discussed separately as a planned mid-2026 launch, so it should not be counted among those 12 markets.

Why the UK launch mattered
UK and Irish viewers had previously accessed much HBO programming through Sky and other licensing arrangements rather than through a local HBO Max service. The launch created a direct destination for HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, DC Studios, New Line Cinema, Max Originals and selected Discovery content.
It also changed the UK streaming home of TNT Sports. TNT Sports became available through HBO Max while continuing to be distributed through existing partners. That distinction matters: HBO Max was not necessarily the only way to watch every title or event, and availability can vary by plan, territory and distributor.
What was available at launch?
The launch catalogue promoted major series and franchises including The Pitt, Euphoria, House of the Dragon, Succession, Friends, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, The White Lotus and The Last of Us. It also included the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films.
The complete first season of The Pitt was announced for launch in the UK and Ireland, with episodes from its second season rolling out weekly. Not every title mentioned in the launch campaign was available immediately:

- Lanterns was listed for summer 2026.
- The next season of Euphoria was described as arriving in April.
- House of the Dragon was listed for later in 2026.
- The Harry Potter television series was announced for Christmas 2026.
Those dates and the catalogue itself may have changed since launch. Plan restrictions also apply: the Basic with Ads tier excluded movies that first arrive after their theatrical release window.
UK launch prices and plans
Warner Bros. Discovery announced these UK monthly prices in March 2026:

Plans supported up to five personalised profiles. The download and device limits were launch terms and may be revised. Premium is the relevant option for households needing four simultaneous streams or 4K, but compatible content and hardware are also required.

In the UK, HBO Max added TNT Sports coverage including Premier League football, UEFA competitions, rugby, UFC, MotoGP, tennis, cycling and other live sports. The announcement did not establish the same TNT Sports product for Ireland, so UK and Irish availability should not be treated as identical.

Saver plans required a 12-month minimum term and were available through HBO Max’s direct website. The regular TNT Sports price of £30.99 should not be confused with the £25.99 Saver price. The company said the Saver structure could save £60 to £131.88 per year, depending on the bundle.
Where could customers subscribe?
Directly through HBO Max
A direct subscription is the simplest route for viewers who want HBO Max without a wider pay-TV package. It offers monthly flexibility, but sports viewers should remember that TNT Sports costs substantially more than entertainment-only plans. A 12-month Saver plan also trades a lower monthly price for a minimum commitment.
Sky
Qualifying Sky Ultimate TV customers, including customers using Sky Stream, Sky Glass or Sky Q, could receive Basic with Ads as part of their Sky subscription. This was not universal free access for every Sky customer, nor was it Premium access. Provider billing, cancellation rules and features can differ from a direct HBO Max account.

NOW
A NOW Entertainment & HBO Max Basic with Ads bundle launched in the UK. Existing NOW Entertainment members were automatically switched to the combined membership. Existing customers should check their renewal, billing and cancellation details rather than assuming the included service is equivalent to a direct Premium plan.

Prime Video
HBO Max was offered through Prime Video in the UK. The launch announcement listed Basic with Ads, Standard with Ads and Standard—not Premium—as the available HBO Max plans through that route. App features, billing and device support can vary when a subscription is purchased as a channel.
The launch supported televisions, set-top boxes, streaming devices, phones, tablets and game consoles. Listed platforms included Android, EE/BT TV, Fire TV, iOS, LG, PlayStation, Roku, Samsung, Virgin TV and Xbox.

What existing subscribers should check
- Do not subscribe directly before checking whether a qualifying Sky package already includes access.
- Check whether your provider gives Basic with Ads rather than Standard or Premium.
- Review who bills you and where cancellation must be completed.
- UK viewers should compare TNT Sports bundle terms carefully, including the 12-month minimum for Saver plans.
- Irish viewers should verify local sports and plan availability separately from UK terms.
The bottom line on HBO Max’s expansion
The March 26 launch was significant because HBO Max finally became a direct service in the UK and Ireland while expanding into 12 Asia-Pacific markets on the same day. For UK customers, the biggest practical change was the combination of premium entertainment and TNT Sports in one ecosystem. Whether it is good value depends on your existing Sky or NOW subscription, tolerance for ads, need for 4K and simultaneous streams, and—most of all—whether you actually need TNT Sports.
For current prices, availability and signup routes, use HBO Max’s official website rather than relying on the March 2026 launch prices.
