Verdict: The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 x New Balance Edition is a capable running smartwatch wrapped in a distinctly luxury package. Its 40 mm titanium case, sapphire crystal, TAG Heuer software and New Balance training content are appealing. However, the $1,650 U.S. price is buying design, materials and exclusivity more than class-leading endurance or the deepest training ecosystem.
This is best understood as a luxury watch that can serve runners—not as a dedicated running watch that happens to be luxurious.
What is the New Balance Edition?
The watch is the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 x New Balance Edition, reference SBT8082.EB0394. TAG Heuer lists the 40 mm model at $1,650 in the U.S. (price checked August 16–18, 2026) and says production is limited to 3,000 pieces. Prices and availability vary by country.

TAG Heuer and New Balance announced it alongside the FuelCell SuperComp Elite v5 running shoe in October 2025. New Balance does not manufacture the watch: it remains a TAG Heuer Connected product using TAG Heuer OS and the broader Calibre E5 platform. The collaboration adds the case treatment, strap, watch faces and running content rather than replacing the underlying smartwatch hardware.

Design: a 40 mm case with serious luxury-watch materials
The sandblasted grade-2 titanium case has a black DLC coating, a matching titanium caseback and crown, and a domed sapphire crystal. A New Balance logo is engraved at 6 o’clock, while the dial uses a New Balance-coloured “deadzone” scale. The supplied multicolour bi-material rubber strap includes a green embroidered logo and a textile insert inspired by running shoes; a second interchangeable strap is included according to the product description.
At 40 mm, the watch should suit buyers who find the 45 mm Calibre E5 too large. It is nevertheless 14.8 mm thick, so the diameter alone does not tell you how discreet it will feel under a sleeve. Titanium is lighter than steel, but TAG Heuer does not publish a complete watch weight including the strap, so it would be wrong to promise a specific on-wrist weight.

The 1.2-inch OLED screen is rated at 390 × 390 pixels and 326 dpi on the current U.S. product page. A New Balance announcement instead lists a 1.39-inch, 454 × 454 display. That is a material specification conflict; buyers should check the unit’s system information or regional documentation rather than treating both figures as true. The same caution applies to the announcement’s dual-band GNSS claim.
What makes it a running watch?
Running is one of TAG Heuer’s featured sports uses. The watch provides heart-rate and GNSS tracking, altitude-related data, running-oriented data presentation and six New Balance training plans. It also includes dedicated New Balance watch faces.
Those plans are the clearest software distinction from a standard Calibre E5. The published material confirms that six plans exist, but it does not establish whether they are adaptive, calendar-based, exportable or integrated with a particular third-party training service. It also does not document the extent of workout editing, interval configuration, race prediction or coaching feedback. Treat them as guided content until the watch’s current software demonstrates more.
Likewise, the available evidence does not prove support for every advanced running feature found on specialist watches. Before buying, verify whether your required functions—structured intervals, pace or heart-rate targets, lap marking, auto-pause, route navigation, workout export and detailed post-run analysis—are present in your region and software version.
Tracking hardware
TAG Heuer lists a heart-rate sensor, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, microphone, altimeter, GNSS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and MFi compatibility. The Snapdragon Wear 5100+ processor powers the watch.
Rank #2
New Balance’s launch announcement additionally describes dual-band GNSS, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, QZSS and Galileo support, plus blood-oxygen, breathing-rate and sleep-related tracking. Because the announcement and product page do not align on every specification, dual-band operation should be treated as an attributed claim until confirmed on the actual watch.
For a serious evaluation, test route distance and pace against a trusted watch or phone on an open road, tree-lined route, urban canyon and track. Check satellite acquisition time, interval-pace stability, heart-rate response during accelerations and elevation consistency on hills. Indoor treadmill running is a separate test: GPS data is not meaningful indoors, and wrist-based heart rate can vary with strap fit, sweat, cold, movement and skin contact.
Battery life is the biggest compromise
The 300 mAh battery is rated for 1.5 days with full performance or up to two days in Low Power mode. TAG Heuer quotes a 90-minute full charge when charging between 15 and 45°C. New Balance’s announcement gives a more demanding figure of approximately 12 hours in running mode and says 30 minutes of charging can add a day; that sport-use claim is not independently verified here.
In practical terms, daily runners may need to charge every night or every other night. That makes continuous sleep tracking inconvenient, and a long race, ultramarathon, hiking day or travel weekend can expose the limitation. “Up to two days” is not two days of continuous GPS recording. Low Power mode may reduce or disable functions, but the supplied materials do not specify every compromise, so check the current settings before relying on it for an event.
A short pre-run charge could be useful, but its real-world benefit depends on display brightness, GPS use, heart-rate sampling, calls, notifications, temperature and software.
TAG Heuer OS and everyday use
TAG Heuer describes TAG Heuer OS as a proprietary, in-house interface rather than Wear OS, watchOS or Garmin’s platform. Navigation combines the crown, mechanical buttons, touch controls, haptics, microphone and speaker. The watch supports calls, voice-assistant access and widgets for information such as activity, heart rate and weather.
TAG Heuer also supplies Sports, Wellness and Golf applications. The trade-off is ecosystem breadth: the available information does not establish access to the full third-party app catalogue, mapping tools or sports integrations offered by Apple, Garmin or Wear OS devices. Phone dependence and iOS/Android feature differences should be checked before purchase. Compatibility is listed as iOS 18 or later and Android 13 or later.

Availability may depend on region and installed software. A previous localized TAG Heuer page indicated that sleep tracking could arrive later in the product cycle, so do not assume every launch-listed feature is active on every unit. Confirm whether SpO₂ is continuous, spot-based or sleep-only, and whether HRV is presented as a useful trend or simply a number.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Water resistance and durability
The watch is rated to 50 m water resistance. That is not the same as “waterproof” and does not make the watch suitable for diving or high-pressure water. Follow TAG Heuer’s care guidance for swimming, and remember that salt water, chlorine, heat, soap and impacts can affect seals and finishes. DLC can also show wear or scratches over time, although that is a practical possibility rather than a documented defect of this edition.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsLuxury value versus sports-watch value
The premium is easy to identify: titanium and sapphire construction, TAG Heuer finishing, a distinctive collaboration design, limited production and the option to wear the watch with formal clothing as well as running kit. Those are tangible reasons to choose it over a generic sports watch.
The premium is harder to justify if your only goal is running performance. The evidence does not show longer battery life, deeper training analytics, better maps or a broader sports ecosystem than established performance platforms. Manufacturer descriptions such as “best-in-class sensors” are marketing claims, not independent comparisons.
Who should buy it?
- Buy it if you value TAG Heuer design, titanium, sapphire, limited-edition ownership and a smaller premium smartwatch that can handle regular running.
- Consider it carefully if you want advanced training load, recovery, race prediction, maps, extensive workout customisation or uninterrupted sleep tracking.
- Look elsewhere if you are a competitive endurance athlete, need multi-day GPS endurance, dislike proprietary ecosystems or want maximum sports functionality per dollar.
Garmin Forerunner models are the more natural category for runners focused on training analytics and race tools. COROS is aimed at long endurance and sports-first simplicity. Apple Watch suits iPhone owners who prioritise a broad smartwatch ecosystem, while Polar and Suunto appeal to buyers whose priorities centre on training, recovery or outdoor sports. Exact models and prices change, so compare current specifications rather than assuming every device in a category is equivalent.
Bottom line
The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 New Balance Edition is an attractive, credible running smartwatch, but its strongest case is luxury ownership. The six New Balance plans, GNSS, heart-rate tracking and sport software make it more than a fashion accessory. The 40 mm titanium-and-sapphire construction, however, does not erase the short battery rating or the uncertainty around training depth, display specifications and some regional health features.
