RTSS 7.2.3 is a real archived release dated September 18, 2019, but it is not the current version. Guru3D’s download page currently lists RTSS 7.3.7 Final, updated September 30, 2025. Use the Guru3D 7.2.3 archive only if you specifically need that older build; otherwise, get the current version from Guru3D’s RTSS download page.
Download RTSS 7.2.3 from Guru3D
Open the archived RTSS 7.2.3 announcement and use its download link. Guru3D identifies itself as RTSS’s official hosting partner on its site information page, and its current download page warns against unofficial download locations. Avoid repackaged installers and look-alike domains. An official source is a safer choice, not a guarantee that a file has been independently malware-tested.
If you want the current release instead, use the separate current RTSS page. Keep the two pages distinct: the archive is for 7.2.3, while the current page lists 7.3.7 Final.

No. Guru3D announced 7.2.3 on September 18, 2019. The current download page retrieved for this article lists 7.3.7 Final, updated September 30, 2025. Version listings can change, so check the download page when you install.

An older build may preserve behavior for a particular setup, but the available release information does not establish that 7.2.3 is better for any specific modern game, driver, or anti-cheat system. Use it for a named compatibility need or controlled test, not on the assumption that it is broadly superior. Guru3D’s 7.3.7 page documents newer compatibility and overlay work, including Vulkan-related updates.
What RTSS does
RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) is a Windows utility for in-game overlays, application profiles, and frame-rate limiting. It can display an on-screen display (OSD), support video-capture and statistics-server functions, and apply settings to individual programs. Its release announcement describes those overlay, recording, and server roles.
- Overlay: Display FPS, frametime, and monitoring data while a game runs. A separate monitoring source, commonly MSI Afterburner, may be needed to supply readings such as GPU and CPU temperatures, clocks, and usage.
- Frame limit: Set a global or per-application FPS cap.
- Profiles: Apply settings to a particular game executable, including one RTSS has not listed automatically.
RTSS and MSI Afterburner are separate programs often used together. RTSS handles the overlay-rendering and frame-limiting layer; Afterburner is commonly used to configure hardware monitoring and provides overclocking and fan or voltage controls where supported. Afterburner may offer RTSS as an installation component, but package contents and versions can vary. RTSS is not itself a general GPU-overclocking utility. Install RTSS 7.2.3 on Windows
- Open the Guru3D 7.2.3 archive and select its download link.
- Save the installer somewhere you can find, such as your Downloads folder. Before running it, confirm that the download came from a Guru3D-controlled path, not a similarly named third-party site.
- Double-click the installer. Approve the Windows permission prompt if one appears.
- Follow the setup wizard and keep its default installation folder unless you have a specific reason to change it. Installer screens and wording can vary.
- Complete setup, then launch RTSS from the Start menu or notification area. If you use MSI Afterburner, launch both; configure which readings to monitor in Afterburner and use RTSS to display the OSD.
Guru3D’s current download page lists Windows operating systems from Windows XP through Windows 11, 32-bit and 64-bit variants, DirectX-, Vulkan-, or OpenGL-compatible graphics hardware, administrative rights, and freeware status. Those are details shown for the current page, not a guarantee that every 7.2.3 installation will work on every Windows configuration. RTSS is Windows-only based on the listed platform support; native macOS and Linux support is not established here.
Set an FPS limit or add a game profile
Set a global or per-game cap
- Open RTSS from the notification area.
- Choose Global to apply a system-wide cap, or select the game’s profile for a per-game limit.
- Find Framerate limit and enter a target, such as
60. - Apply the setting or close the profile window, then launch the game and check that the cap is taking effect.
There is no universally correct cap. Consider your display’s refresh rate and variable-refresh-rate range, the game’s behavior, GPU load, and whether you prefer lower latency or steadier performance. A global limit is quick but affects every game; per-game limits take more setup and avoid restricting applications that do not need the cap. Guru3D explains the frame-limit control and its consistency-versus-peak-FPS trade-off in its RTSS guidance.
Add a game that RTSS does not detect
- Open RTSS and click Add in the profile area.
- Browse to the game’s actual executable file, usually an
.exe, and select it. If a launcher starts a separate game process, add the game executable rather than only the launcher. - Configure that profile’s frame limit and OSD options, then save or close the profile.
- Start the game and verify that the profile applies.
RTSS’s profile control can target an executable even when the game is not already in the list; see the Guru3D profile instructions.

Show monitoring data in the OSD
RTSS renders the overlay, but it does not necessarily provide every hardware reading by itself. With MSI Afterburner, choose the desired monitored items in its settings and enable their on-screen display, then make sure RTSS is running. The exact labels and menus can differ between software versions.
Troubleshoot a missing overlay or game problem
The overlay does not appear
- Check that RTSS is running in the notification area.
- Confirm that the running game executable has a profile and that application detection and OSD options are enabled.
- Temporarily turn off other overlays one at a time, such as Steam, Discord, recording software, or a graphics-vendor overlay.
- Try starting the game after RTSS is already running.
- If you are using 7.2.3 with a modern game, test the current RTSS release from Guru3D’s download page. If it has a problem, treat 7.2.3 only as a controlled compatibility test.
Guru3D notes that RTSS can conflict with other OSD products, and that some anti-cheat systems may restrict OSD use. Neither behavior means every overlay conflicts or every online game blocks RTSS.
The game is not detected
Add the game’s actual executable through RTSS’s Add control rather than adding only its launcher. If the profile still does not apply, confirm which executable runs when the game starts.

The game refuses to launch or disconnects online
Disable RTSS for that game by removing its profile or turning off application detection for it, then check the game publisher’s anti-cheat and overlay policy. Do not assume that an overlay is permitted in every online title.
Another overlay causes a conflict
Where possible, run one OSD renderer at a time. Disable third-party overlays individually and retest, rather than changing several settings at once; this helps identify the conflict.

To roll back, close RTSS, MSI Afterburner, and other related tools before installing the older version. Preserve profiles only if you intend to restore them. To remove RTSS, use Windows’ installed-apps interface or Programs and Features and select its uninstall entry; Guru3D’s RTSS guidance also describes uninstalling through Control Panel.
