Short answer: The Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro can make an F1 race feel more involving by extending changing screen colors onto the wall behind your TV. It does not improve the broadcast, picture quality, motion or sound. It is best for fans with a supported-size TV, a room where reflections can be controlled, and the patience to calibrate a camera-based system. Its biggest trade-off is that the camera must read the screen accurately—and it remains visible above the TV.
What the Backlight 3 Pro does
The kit uses an LED strip on the back of the television and a camera mounted above it. The camera reads colors across the screen; the strip then changes color and brightness to create a corresponding wash on the wall. Setup and adjustments are handled through the Govee Home app. A controller and power connection complete the system, while Govee’s DreamView feature can synchronize compatible Govee lights around the room.
Govee lists two US models: H66A0 for 55–65-inch TVs and H66A1 for 75–85-inch TVs. Check the regional SKU and the current compatibility guidance before buying, especially if your TV is outside those size ranges or has an unusual rear shape. The standard US product page showed a price of $179.99 during the research period; prices, promotions and availability can change. Check Govee’s current product listing.
“3 Pro” is the product name, not a guarantee of perfect reproduction. The product should be understood as ambient lighting that reacts to visible screen content—not an upgrade to the TV itself.

Why it could suit an F1 weekend
Formula 1 broadcasts move quickly between wide track shots, onboard cameras, pit lane, replays, timing graphics and podium coverage. A screen-following backlight can make those changes show up in the room as well as on the display. Team liveries and broadcast graphics may send broad washes of color behind the TV; floodlit night-race footage can be especially atmospheric in a dim room. During group viewing, extending the effect to other compatible Govee lights may make the whole viewing area feel more connected to the screen.
That effect is a matter of atmosphere, not extra detail. The strip cannot improve the stream’s resolution or bitrate, the TV’s HDR, refresh rate or motion handling, the audio, or F1TV and broadcaster features. Put simply: it makes the room respond to the race; it does not make the race signal better.
Screen-following lighting can also produce results you may not want. A fixed timing tower or leaderboard can create a persistent color patch in one area. A commercial break will light the room according to the advert, not the race. Black transitions may make the strip dim or go dark, and bright graphics can dominate if brightness or saturation is set too high. If you find that distracting during long strategy segments, a restrained setting—or a static light—is likely to suit you better.

How its triple-camera system works
Govee specifies three camera lenses, each with an 86-degree field of view, along with 1080p/30fps processing and a dual-exposure system intended to handle bright and dark parts of the image. It also advertises multi-zone calibration, 16-bit RGBWWIC lighting, warm- and cool-white LEDs, and 75 LEDs per meter. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of color accuracy or response time. Govee also claims its upgraded chip processes 300% faster, but that claim should not be read as a measured end-to-end delay for the light you see during a race.
In practice, the camera has to see the TV and associate screen areas with the right parts of the strip. A good result depends on camera placement and calibration as well as the room. The design can respond to content shown on the screen without requiring every video source to pass through an HDMI box. That makes a camera system a potentially convenient fit for built-in TV apps and varied sources, although the dossier does not independently verify every app or television combination.
The available product information does not provide independent color-error, brightness or latency measurements. So it is reasonable to expect the system to follow the broad color direction of a scene when set up well; it is not reasonable to expect every Ferrari red, blue sky, dark corner or rapid cut to be reproduced perfectly. Broadcast compression, the TV’s image settings, reflections and camera exposure all affect what the camera sees.

Installation and calibration
Plan for a setup session before a race rather than sticking the strip on moments before lights out. Govee’s product page presents installation, camera calibration, color calibration and color testing as setup steps. App labels and menus can change, so follow the current in-app instructions rather than relying on a fixed menu path.

Match the TV to the correct kit size. Confirm there is enough rear access to route and attach the strip, and enough space for the camera to see the screen.
- Prepare the rear panel. Turn off the TV, clean the strip’s mounting area and let it dry. Plan a consistent route around the screen before removing adhesive backing.
- Mount the strip. Follow the supplied orientation markings and keep the route even around the edges. Avoid sharp bends or stretching the strip.
- Position the camera. Attach it at the top center as directed, with an unobstructed view of the full screen. Check that a soundbar or TV frame does not block it.
- Connect and pair. Connect the strip, controller and power supply as instructed, then use the Govee Home app to pair the device.
- Calibrate the camera and colors. Follow the app’s calibration prompts and check that the points correspond to the screen edges. Run the color test; do not assume the default result is correct.
- Test real viewing conditions. Try both a bright scene and a dark one. Make any available saturation or white-balance adjustments if colors consistently look too strong or too weak.
- Add other lights last. First get the TV backlight working well on its own. Then add compatible fixtures through DreamView one at a time, checking their zones and brightness.
For calibration, reduce nearby lights and keep direct sunlight off the screen. Reflections from windows, lamps or glossy furniture can interfere with a camera reading the display. Govee’s T2 guidance specifically warns about bright external light and reflections and suggests saturation and white-balance adjustments; that is useful context for camera-based systems, but it is not a substitute for the current 3 Pro instructions. Camera sync or HDMI sync?
Neither approach is right for every setup. A camera watches the finished picture on the screen. An HDMI sync box analyzes a signal routed through it. The distinction matters if you rely on built-in TV apps, use several sources or need particular HDMI features.

If most of your F1 comes from an app installed on the TV, a camera-based design may be the more straightforward architecture. If you want signal-level analysis, use compatible external sources and can verify every format in your chain, an HDMI solution may fit better. Do not assume either method is universally more accurate or compatible.

The price gap observed between the standard US 3 Pro and T2 listings was $40. Whether the 3 Pro is worth that difference depends on whether you value its newer triple-camera and HDR-oriented feature claims—not on an assumption that it will produce perfect colors. Check the 3 Lite Kit listing and the T2 listing for current regional options. Prices and included configurations can change.

Colors look wrong or appear on the wrong side
Check that the camera is centered and unobstructed, that the calibration points match the screen and that reflections are not falling across it. Reduce nearby lighting, clean the screen and rerun calibration. If the colors are consistently too vivid or muted, adjust saturation or white balance if those controls are available. Moving the TV or camera is a reason to calibrate again.

The strip does not light up
Check the power supply and controller connections, app pairing and Wi-Fi configuration. Inspect for damage from installation, especially a sharp bend, and make sure you selected the right size version. Use the current product instructions for recovery; do not cut or modify the strip unless Govee explicitly permits it for this model.
The effect feels delayed or DreamView looks chaotic
Do not treat Govee’s synchronization language as an independently measured end-to-end latency result. If the lights appear out of step, test the backlight alone, then check the app and firmware state, connection conditions and DreamView setup. For an unruly room effect, remove secondary lights, review their zone assignments and lower their brightness before adding them back individually.
Who should buy it?
- Consider the 3 Pro if your TV is in a supported size range, you want reactive color rather than simple neutral bias lighting, your viewing space is reasonably controlled and you are willing to calibrate it. It is also a stronger fit if you want to build around Govee lights and DreamView.
- Consider the T2 or 3 Lite if the lower listed price or included light bars better matches your priorities. Compare the current regional product pages rather than assuming prices or bundles stay fixed.
- Skip camera-based lighting if you want an invisible installation, dislike a camera above the TV, cannot control strong reflections, want neutral light for eye comfort, or expect the accessory to improve the picture itself. A flush-mounted TV with little rear clearance may also make installation awkward.
For an F1 fan who wants the room to echo the changing colors of a race, the Backlight 3 Pro has a clear appeal. Its value depends on whether that ambient effect is worth the hardware, setup and occasional mismatch to you. Treat Govee’s feature figures as manufacturer claims, check the current price and compatibility for your market, and buy it for atmosphere—not for a better F1 image.
