Yes, Google and Warby Parker are making smart glasses. The product is officially called Warby Parker Intelligent Eyewear, developed with Google and Samsung. The first model is described as lightweight, audio-first AI glasses—not display-equipped augmented-reality glasses or a new version of Google Glass. Google and Warby Parker say they are targeting fall 2026, but the cited official materials do not provide an exact release date, price, preorder window, battery specification, or detailed prescription options.
What are Warby Parker Intelligent Eyewear?
Warby Parker announced its partnership with Google on May 20, 2025. The companies plan to create everyday prescription and non-prescription glasses with cameras, microphones, speakers, and AI features. Samsung is also contributing hardware engineering, making this a joint eyewear-and-platform project rather than ordinary Warby Parker frames paired with a Google app.
- Warby Parker: Frame design, eyewear expertise, prescription capability, and the consumer eyewear experience.
- Google: Gemini AI, Android XR software, and connected assistant features.
- Samsung: Hardware engineering and participation in the Android XR ecosystem.
Google committed up to $75 million toward product-development and commercialization costs and up to another $75 million in an equity investment, subject to conditions and milestones. That financing does not establish the glasses’ retail price or mean Google owns Warby Parker. See the Warby Parker announcement and SEC filing.

Release date and availability
Warby Parker’s December 2025 SEC filing expected the first glasses in 2026. At Google I/O on May 19, 2026, Google described the launch window as fall 2026, wording repeated on Warby Parker’s product page.
No exact day or month is confirmed in the cited material. The official page offers an email signup for launch updates, not a clearly identified preorder or paid reservation. It also does not publish a retail price, subscription price, or lens surcharge. Readers interested in the launch can use the official update signup.
What will the glasses do?
Google has announced the following capabilities. These are planned features and demonstrations, not independent hands-on findings from a shipping product.
| Capability | What Google has announced | What remains unknown |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini | Voice access to Gemini and questions about what the wearer sees. | Accuracy, usage limits, account requirements, and regional availability. |
| Camera features | Photo and video capture, visual questions, and image editing with Google’s generative tools. | Camera resolution, storage, transfer process, and recording controls. |
| Audio | Spoken answers, calls, music, podcasts, translations, and navigation prompts. | Battery life, speaker leakage, microphone quality, and performance in wind or crowds. |
| Navigation | Turn-by-turn guidance based on location and orientation, including adding route stops. | Accuracy, offline operation, map limitations, and performance when connectivity is poor. |
| Messages | Calls, texts, and summaries of missed messages. | Supported messaging apps, permissions, and Android-iPhone feature parity. |
| App actions | Examples involving services such as Uber, DoorDash, and Mondly. | The final supported-app list and how confirmation or cancellation works. |
Google says users can say “Hey Google” or tap the side of the frame to access Gemini. Google has also described hand-gesture controls when the glasses are paired with a compatible Wear OS watch. That does not establish that every gesture or command will be available at launch.
Audio glasses, not heads-up AR glasses
The first Warby Parker model previewed by Google is described as an audio glass. Assistance should therefore be delivered mainly through open-ear speakers, rather than through arrows, translations, or messages displayed in front of the wearer’s eyes.

“Android XR” is a broad platform that includes headsets, audio AI glasses, and future display glasses. It does not mean every Android XR product has a screen. Google has discussed display glasses separately, but it has not said that the Warby Parker launch model includes an in-lens display. For a visual mixed-reality experience, a product such as Samsung Galaxy XR belongs to a different category.
Prescription lenses and everyday wear
The original partnership announcement says the line will include prescription and non-prescription lenses. That is potentially the product’s biggest advantage over many technology-first smart-glasses launches: Warby Parker is building around optical fit and prescription eyewear rather than treating lenses as an accessory.

- Supported prescription ranges.
- Whether progressive lenses are available.
- Lens thickness, materials, tint, transition, or polarized options.
- Whether high prescriptions are supported.
- Online measurement and in-person fitting procedures.
- Replacement-lens and electronics-repair policies.
- Insurance or health-spending-account eligibility.
- How much the electronics affect frame weight, thickness, or balance.
If these are intended to be a primary pair of glasses, warranty service, optical adjustments, replacement costs, and a backup pair may matter as much as Gemini’s feature list.
Phone compatibility and Android XR
Google says the glasses will pair with both Android and iOS phones. That is useful for Warby Parker customers who use iPhones, but it does not guarantee identical functionality. Some features may depend on the Gemini app, a Google account, operating-system versions, location and notification permissions, supported third-party apps, or a particular country or language.

Samsung and Android devices may receive deeper Android XR integration, while Wear OS gesture controls require a compatible watch. Until Google publishes a compatibility chart, treat “Android and iOS support” as platform compatibility—not proof of full feature parity.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The official material presents the glasses as connected eyewear and does not establish complete standalone operation. A phone connection should be considered important for AI, app, location, and cloud-dependent functions unless later specifications say otherwise.
Privacy, safety, and accuracy
Cameras and microphones make these glasses useful, but they also create privacy issues for the wearer and nearby people. Google says it has consulted trusted testers while developing products intended to respect the wearer and people around them. That language is not a complete privacy specification.
Before buying, look for clear answers about:
- Whether a visible recording indicator is active whenever the camera records.
- Whether the camera or microphones can be disabled.
- Where photos, audio, and AI requests are processed.
- How long recordings and Gemini interactions are retained.
- Whether glasses activity is stored in Gemini conversation history.
- How bystanders can recognize recording.
- Restrictions in schools, workplaces, medical facilities, courts, or businesses.
- Age requirements and child-safety controls.
Multimodal AI can also be wrong. It may misread a parking sign, misidentify an object, mistranslate text, provide stale restaurant information, misunderstand a command, or send a message to the wrong person. Confirm consequential actions—especially purchases, bookings, messages, navigation decisions, and health-related interpretations—before relying on them.
Price, subscriptions, battery, and other missing specifications
The glasses’ official price is not published in the cited sources. Do not infer it from ordinary Warby Parker frames, Ray-Ban Meta, Samsung Galaxy XR, or Google’s investment. Warby Parker’s page also warns that some features may require setup or a subscription, but the terms are not yet detailed.

Because the product is audio-first, independent testing should pay particular attention to voice clarity in traffic and wind, speaker leakage, call quality, navigation intelligibility, microphone performance, comfort, and compatibility with hearing aids. Those results cannot be known from the announcement alone.

Ray-Ban Meta
Ray-Ban Meta is the closest established comparison: fashion eyewear with cameras, microphones, speakers, voice assistance, and a companion-phone model. It may suit readers who want camera-and-audio smart glasses now rather than waiting. Its ecosystem is Meta rather than Google, and current price, prescription details, compatibility, privacy controls, and subscription terms should be checked on the live official product page.
Samsung Galaxy XR
Samsung Galaxy XR is a substantially different device: a visual mixed-reality headset rather than lightweight everyday prescription glasses. Google’s launch announcement lists it at $1,799 or $149 per month. That price is for the headset and is not an indication of Warby Parker eyewear pricing.
XREAL AURA
XREAL AURA represents the display-oriented side of Android XR. It is relevant to readers who want a visual spatial-computing canvas, but wired display eyewear is a poor match for someone seeking ordinary-looking prescription glasses, camera-based visual AI, or untethered all-day use.
Best Value

- 【Open-Ear Speakers & Clear Bluetooth Calling】Camera glasses feature built-in open-ear speakers for music and clear Bluetooth calls while helping you stay aware of your surroundings. Noise-reduction microphones provide clearer voice pickup and a comfortable listening experience for everyday use.

Ordinary Warby Parker glasses
Standard Warby Parker prescription glasses avoid batteries, cameras, microphones, software updates, app permissions, and subscription uncertainty. They are the better choice for readers who need reliable eyewear immediately or do not want camera-equipped glasses.
Google Pixel Buds with ordinary glasses
Pixel Buds paired with regular glasses can provide hands-free audio assistance without putting cameras on the wearer’s face. They lack first-person visual understanding and integrated frame controls, but may be easier to replace and less socially intrusive.
Who should wait?
Wait for official retail details if you need progressive or high-prescription lenses, insurance support, long battery life, confirmed iPhone feature parity, strong privacy controls, or a clear subscription policy. You should also wait if you specifically want visible directions or translations: the first announced Warby Parker product is audio eyewear, not a heads-up display.
Conversely, readers who need smart glasses immediately should consider an established alternative such as Ray-Ban Meta, while readers seeking visual spatial computing should examine a headset or display-glasses product instead.
Verdict
Warby Parker Intelligent Eyewear is a legitimate upcoming product, not a rumor or a renamed Google Glass revival. Its potential strength is the combination of prescription eyewear, Warby Parker’s optical expertise, Gemini, and Android XR. Its major unknowns are price, battery life, phone dependence, subscription requirements, privacy controls, app support, and the real-world quality of the prescription fit.
For now, treat it as fall 2026 audio AI eyewear that has been announced but not fully specified or made available for ordinary purchase. Sign up through Warby Parker’s official page if you want launch updates, but do not mistake that signup for a preorder.
