Google’s Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2 release notes listed a fix for a specific startup-crash compatibility problem, including crashes in some Microsoft apps managed by Intune. After installing the update, however, some Pixel testers still reported crashes in Teams, Outlook and other Microsoft apps. The reports were mixed, so they do not show that Google’s fix failed for everyone—or that every continuing crash was the same bug.
This was Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2, released January 14, 2026—not the original Android 16 Beta 2 from February 2025.
What did Google say it fixed?
Google’s release notes for Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2 described a compatibility issue that caused certain apps, including Microsoft applications managed by Intune, to crash on startup. The wording identifies a particular class of failure; it does not claim to fix every app crash on Android 16.

Google released QPR3 Beta 2 on January 14, 2026, as build CP11.251209.007 (also listed as CP11.251209.007.A1). It is Android API level 36.1, with the January 5, 2026 security patch, for Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. There had been an earlier related entry: QPR3 Beta 1.1, released December 23, 2025, included a fix for a change that caused some apps to crash on startup. The later Beta 2 notes described the Intune-related compatibility issue more specifically.
Which apps did testers say still crashed?
After QPR3 Beta 2 arrived, some users reported that Microsoft apps still crashed, including Teams, Outlook, Microsoft Launcher, Windows/Phone Link and other work apps. These are examples from user reports covered by Android Authority and Android Central, not a confirmed list of apps that fail for every user.

Outcomes varied: some testers said the apps worked normally, while others continued to see crashes. Some reports described failures only in a work profile; others said crashes also occurred in a personal profile. The available reports do not establish how often the problem occurred, a single cause, or whether each post-update crash matched the issue in Google’s changelog.
Why can Google’s fix and the later reports both be true?
Google documented a specific Android-system compatibility fix affecting certain apps, including Intune-managed Microsoft apps. User reports described a broader mix of apps, profiles and circumstances. That difference leaves several possibilities: the fix may have addressed one failure path while another remained, some later crashes may have had a different trigger, or the change may have reduced rather than eliminated failures.

Those are explanations consistent with the evidence, not confirmed diagnoses. Intune management may matter because it is part of the issue Google named, but it cannot be assumed to cause every reported crash. Differences in app versions, WebView, Google Play components or enterprise policy could also be relevant; the reports do not isolate any one of them.
The subsequent QPR3 Beta 2.1 release, build CP11.251209.009, followed on February 10, 2026, for the same listed Pixel generation. The current official QPR3 notes do not say that this later patch definitively resolved every Microsoft-app crash reported after Beta 2.
What should you do if a Microsoft app crashes?
- Record the exact software and circumstances. Open Settings → About phone → Android version and note the build. Also record the app and its version, the Pixel model, whether it is in a personal or work profile, and whether it crashes at launch or later.
- Install available app and component updates. Update the affected Microsoft app in Google Play, then check for updates to Android System WebView, Google Chrome and Google Play system components. These are sensible compatibility checks, but the reports do not prove they fix this particular problem.
- Ask IT before changing a managed work profile. An employer may control Intune policy, device compliance, certificates and managed app settings. Contact your administrator before removing or reinstalling a work profile or joining an app beta.
- Treat proposed workarounds as experiments, not fixes. One user reportedly said enabling Android System WebView helped, but that result was not independently verified. Android Authority also reported that some Issue Tracker commenters said joining the Microsoft Intune beta helped them. Neither is an official, universal remedy; follow your organization’s rules before changing a managed setup.
- Consider leaving the Android beta if work is blocked. Returning to stable Android is the more dependable choice when Teams, Outlook or corporate access is essential and crashes prevent use. Leaving a beta can involve a backup, a device reset or administrator approval, depending on enrollment and management state. Check the Android Beta Program instructions for the device and enrollment path before proceeding; do not assume rollback will preserve all data.
- Report a repeatable failure. Include the device model, build, app name and version, profile type, when the crash occurs, and whether updating or reinstalling changed the behavior. Google’s QPR3 release documentation points testers to its issue-reporting channels.
Who should stay on the beta?
Google describes QPR beta builds as suitable for general use, but that is not a guarantee of bug-free operation or compatibility with every managed work setup.
- Staying may make sense if the affected apps are not essential, the phone is personal, you can tolerate beta issues and you have a verified backup and another way to communicate.
- Stable Android is the safer choice if crashes block work, the phone is your only device, or the phone and work profile are subject to employer management and you cannot risk disruption.
The reports concern specific app failures; a crash in one Microsoft app does not by itself show that Android as a whole is unstable. Likewise, an unaffected user’s experience does not show that the fix worked for everyone.

How this differs from the original Android 16 Beta 2
“Android 16 Beta 2” can refer to a different release. Google’s original Android 16 Beta 2 arrived in February 2025 as part of the major Android 16 preview cycle. Its release notes discussed separate issues, including intermittent Google Home crashes and a ClassNotFoundException involving LazyValue class loading, as well as a warning about apps using libraries that depend on internal ART structures. The Microsoft-app reports in this story concern the later quarterly update, Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2, from January 2026. The shared “Beta 2” label does not make these the same build or incident.
