Google Recorder’s Create music feature is rolling out to the Pixel 9 series, after first arriving on Pixel 10 phones. It adds generated background music to an existing recording; it is a quick creative effect, not a full music-production studio. The update also expands Recorder summary-language support and revises its Clear Voice controls.
What Create music does
Create music adds a musical backing or “vibe” to a recording you have already made. Google’s Play listing describes the feature as adding background musical vibes to recordings, and the reported interface offers preset moods or a custom choice of genre and feeling. Google Recorder on Google Play
The six reported featured options are Chill Beats, Cozy, Dance Party, Rainy Day Blues, Romantic and Surprise Me. The custom option lets you choose a genre and a feeling; the available reporting does not document the full lists of choices. Think of it as a fast way to dress up a voice memo, spoken-word clip or short personal recording. The documented feature does not establish controls for multitrack arranging, instruments, MIDI, tempo, key, stems or detailed mixing. If you need those tools, use a dedicated music-making app rather than expecting Recorder to work like a digital audio workstation.

How to find Create music
- Update Google Recorder from Google Play.
- Open Recorder and select an existing recording.
- Tap the recording’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Create music.
- Select a featured vibe or open the custom option to choose a genre and feeling.
- Allow Recorder time to process the recording.
The reported route starts from a saved recording, not the live recording screen. The available information does not confirm whether the original remains untouched, whether the result is saved as a separate file, how it can be exported, or whether it can be reversed. Nor does it establish whether processing happens on-device or online. Do not assume a particular privacy, offline, export or commercial-use behavior based on the feature description alone.
Which phones get it?
The December 2025 rollout expanded Create music to the Pixel 9 series; the feature had previously been introduced on Pixel 10 devices. Google’s Play listing says the feature is available on Pixel 9 too. That supports Pixel 9 compatibility, but not a broader claim that it works on Pixel 8, Pixel 7 or non-Pixel Android phones. The rollout was associated with Recorder version 4.2.20251104.x in December 2025. That is the version reported for the original rollout, not a current-version recommendation: the Play listing found for this article showed a later update dated July 9, 2026, without a comparable version number. 9to5Google
Recorder summaries gain languages
The update notes also identify additional languages for Recorder summaries. These are summary-language claims, not confirmation that transcription gains the same languages.

Because the notes distinguish devices, do not treat this entire list as universal across Pixel models. The reported additions concern summaries; they do not by themselves establish which languages are available for transcription. Update details reported by 9to5Google
Clear Voice controls are clearer, with a compatibility caveat
The update makes Clear Voice status more visible during playback, with a label at the bottom of the waveform when it is active. The reported label can be tapped to reach overflow controls and disable the feature. Toggle states are also clearer, and the related setting is now called Auto Clear Voice.

Recorder also warns that Auto Clear Voice uses more storage and does not support external microphones or stereo recordings. If your workflow depends on either, do not assume Clear Voice will be available or behave the same way for those recordings. 9to5Google’s update report
If Create music is missing
- Check Google Play for a Recorder update and install it.
- Confirm you are using a Pixel 9-series phone; Pixel 8’s summary-language additions do not establish Create music support.
- Close and reopen Recorder, then open an existing recording and check its three-dot menu.
- If the menu still has not refreshed after updating, force-stop Recorder and open it again. The original rollout report noted this as a way to refresh the redesigned account menu; it may also help when an app interface has not refreshed.
- Restart the phone if the option remains absent.
Availability can vary during a staged app rollout, so an update appearing in Google Play does not guarantee that every device receives every interface change at the same moment. The available sources do not establish an internet connection, Google account, Android version or language setting as a requirement for Create music. Avoid treating any of those as confirmed causes if the feature is missing.

Is the update useful?
Create music is most relevant if you already own a supported Pixel and want a quick musical backdrop for a short recording without moving it into a separate editor. Its preset-and-mood approach favors convenience over precise creative control, and the reported processing time means it is not an instant live effect. The summary-language additions may matter more to users who record in the supported languages; Clear Voice’s revised controls make its active state easier to spot, while the storage and microphone/stereo limitations matter for some recording setups.
This update is not, on its own, a strong reason to buy a new phone: Pixel 9 owners gain the feature, and the documentation does not establish that it replaces dedicated production tools or explain output rights and export options. For readers seeking multitrack recording, arranging, mixing or instruments, GarageBand, FL Studio Mobile and BandLab are examples of separate music-production services; they solve a different problem from Recorder’s background-vibe feature.
