The Google Pixel Tablet 2 did not launch in 2025. Leaked internal information reportedly described a successor, codenamed “kiyomi,” with a Tensor G4 processor, a 120Hz display, optional 5G, improved cameras and new accessories. That project was later reported canceled, while Google subsequently said tablet development was on pause.
As of August 16, 2026, there is no verified Pixel Tablet 2 release date, price or retail specification. The current Pixel Tablet remains Google’s only commercially available tablet.
Was the Pixel Tablet 2 a real product?
It appears to have been a genuine internal Google project rather than a fan-created concept. Reporting identified the canceled tablet by the codename “kiyomi” and described hardware plans found in internal documents. However, Google never publicly announced a Pixel Tablet 2.

The original Pixel Tablet launched in May 2023. Earlier reports pointed to a successor arriving around 2024 or 2025, but the expected 2025 launch did not happen.
Which Tensor processor was planned?
The strongest reporting pointed to Tensor G4, not Tensor G5. The canceled tablet was reportedly expected to use an IPoP-packaged version of Tensor G4. That packaging could have reduced costs, although it may also have involved trade-offs in heat management and thickness.
This was not a Google-confirmed final specification, and no Tensor G4 Pixel Tablet reached stores. Tensor G5 is officially listed for Google’s Pixel 10 phones, but there is no evidence that it was planned for a released Pixel Tablet 2.
A Tensor G4 successor would likely have brought newer CPU and GPU capabilities, better AI processing and improved efficiency compared with the current tablet’s Tensor G2. Those are expected generational benefits, not measured results: there are no Pixel Tablet 2 benchmarks because the device never shipped.

None of the successor’s reported features—including 5G, the 120Hz panel, keyboard, stylus or DisplayPort output—was confirmed as a final retail specification.
Why Tensor G4 would have mattered
The existing Pixel Tablet uses Google’s Tensor G2, an older platform that is adequate for streaming, browsing, reading, Google apps and smart-home control. A Tensor G4 model could have offered more headroom for demanding multitasking, games and newer on-device AI features.

But Tensor chips are not automatically equivalent to Apple’s M-series or the fastest Snapdragon platforms for sustained gaming and laptop-like workloads. Without a shipping device or benchmark results, claims about a specific performance level would be speculation.
Why did Google pause the tablet line?
Google executives reportedly said in August 2025 that tablet development was on pause until the company could find a “meaningful future” for the category. That wording does not establish one official cancellation reason, but it highlights Google’s strategic problem.
The Pixel Tablet occupies an unusual position. It is both an Android tablet and, when placed on its Charging Speaker Dock, a Google Home-oriented smart display. That combination differentiates it, but it also makes the product harder to position against conventional tablets, smart displays and large foldable phones.

Coverage has also pointed to concerns about tablet sales and competition from Apple and Samsung. Google has increasingly prioritized phones and AI, while many potential tablet buyers already have access to an iPad, a Galaxy Tab or a large-screen phone. Later reporting said no new Pixel Tablet was actively in development at that point, although a future return was not ruled out.
What Pixel Tablet can you buy today?
Google’s official US specifications list the current Pixel Tablet with:
- Tensor G2 processor and 8GB of RAM.
- 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
- A 10.95-inch LCD with 2560×1600 resolution and 500-nit typical brightness.
- 8MP front and rear cameras.
- Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, Google Cast and UWB.
- A 27Wh battery with Google’s claim of up to 12 hours of video streaming.
- At least five years of Pixel updates.
- Compatibility with the Charging Speaker Dock.
On the US Google Store page, pricing starts at $399 for 128GB and rises to $499 for 256GB. A tablet-and-dock configuration starts at $499 on the cited purchase page. Prices and availability can vary by country and change over time; check the official purchase page before buying.

Buy it now if you want a Google tablet immediately, value the dock-based smart-display experience, and mainly plan to stream video, browse, read, use Google apps or control smart-home devices. It is also the only current way to get Google’s first-party tablet-and-dock concept.
Think twice if you need 5G, GPS, a 120Hz display, high-end gaming performance, OLED image quality or a mature keyboard-based productivity setup. The current tablet is Wi-Fi-only, uses a 60Hz LCD and should not be purchased on the assumption that a Pixel Tablet 2 upgrade is imminent.

Waiting is reasonable only if you already have a working tablet and specifically want a future Google model with newer Tensor hardware. Google has supplied no public launch timetable, so waiting could mean waiting indefinitely.
What happens next?
Google could eventually revive its tablet ambitions, but “paused” is not a release promise. There is currently no confirmed successor name, processor, price, design, launch year or regional availability. Any future model could also differ substantially from the canceled “kiyomi” project.
For readers who need a more conventional productivity tablet now, Apple’s iPad lineup offers a broader tablet-optimized app and accessory ecosystem. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab range provides more Android sizes, performance tiers, keyboard options and cellular models. Neither offers the Pixel Tablet’s exact Google Home and Charging Speaker Dock experience.
Final verdict
The original claim that the Pixel Tablet 2 “could get a new Tensor processor for its 2025 release” is outdated. Google reportedly planned Tensor G4 for a real internal successor, but that 2025-generation device was canceled and never launched. Google later described tablet development as paused, leaving the future of the Pixel tablet line uncertain.
