Google One did not announce a new August 2026 price increase in Brazil. The “up to 28% more expensive” change refers to an adjustment that began on February 18, 2025. For direct-Google purchases, the historical 2 TB Premium plan rose from R$38.99 to R$49.99 per month—an increase of approximately 28.2%. Existing subscribers generally saw the new price at renewal, while the plan lineup has since changed.
What changed in Brazil?
Google attributed the 2025 increase to foreign-exchange-rate changes and applied it to selected plans purchased directly from Google. The largest percentage increase affected the then-existing 2 TB Premium plan. The Basic and Standard plans rose by approximately 25%.
These were the reported direct-Google prices at the time of the adjustment:

Small discrepancies in historical annual prices, particularly for Standard, appeared in contemporary reports. The table therefore shows the reported ranges rather than presenting those figures as a single definitive archived invoice.

The practical increase was approximately:
- Basic: R$2 more per month, or about R$24 more per year at monthly billing.
- Standard: R$3 more per month, or about R$36 more per year at monthly billing.
- Premium: R$11 more per month, or about R$132 more per year.
- Premium annual: approximately R$110 more per year.
Google’s official notice is available in Portuguese and English. Historical plan comparisons were also reported by Tecnoblog and Canaltech.
When did existing subscribers pay more?
The dates depended on the customer’s billing cycle and payment channel:
- February 18, 2025: Google began showing the new prices to new customers, according to its notice.
- March 18, 2025: Google’s Brazilian Portuguese support page identified this date for monthly renewals.
- March 21, 2025: The Portuguese page used this date for annual renewals; Google’s English notice described it more generally as the date from which existing members renewing could be charged the new price.
- March 20, 2025: The stated cancellation deadline for affected direct subscribers who did not want to renew at the new price.
- March 17, 2025: The stated deadline for monthly subscribers billed through Apple’s App Store.
Those cancellation deadlines have passed. Cancelling normally stops the next renewal; it does not immediately erase the paid storage or benefits. Google says access generally continues until the end of the current billing period.

Who was affected?
The published increase applied to plans purchased directly from Google in Brazil. Your amount may differ if the subscription is billed through:
- Google Play;
- Apple’s App Store;
- a mobile carrier or other partner;
- a promotion or a different billing arrangement.
Apple billing can produce a different price because Apple controls the transaction structure and applicable taxes. Check the billing provider before comparing your invoice with the figures above.
What does Google One storage cover?
Google One is not a separate Drive-only quota. Its storage is shared across the Google account and can be consumed by:

- Google Drive files;
- Gmail messages and attachments;
- Google Photos photos and videos;
- Android device backups.
A large Google Photos library can therefore leave less room for Gmail and Drive. Storage and device-backup features also do not make Google One a complete independent backup strategy: irreplaceable photos and work files should have another copy outside the same account or provider.

Google’s Brazilian pages have changed the product structure since the 2025 increase. The current public catalogue presents storage alongside Google AI subscriptions:

Google says AI Plus includes 400 GB and family sharing for up to five other people, while AI Pro includes 5 TB and additional AI benefits. See the Google One Brazil overview and Google AI plans page for the current structure.

Do not assume that the historical “Premium” or “AI Premium” names map directly to today’s plans. Google’s live checkout may also vary by account, billing channel, promotion, or eligibility. The old R$49.99 Premium price should be treated as the post-increase 2025 price—not automatically as the current 2026 price.

Keep it if Google is central to your workflow
Keeping Google One is usually the least disruptive option if you rely on Google Photos, Gmail, Drive, Android backups, or family sharing. The convenience of one shared quota and a connected Google account can matter more than the nominal price of another provider.
Downgrade if your usage has room to fall
Review your storage before changing plans. Remove duplicate photos, large videos, obsolete Drive files, and unnecessary device backups. Empty trash folders where appropriate, and check whether family members are using the shared quota. Choose a plan with meaningful headroom rather than one that barely covers today’s total.

Cancel if you no longer need the quota
Cancellation makes sense if you can remain below the free storage limit, are abandoning the account, have moved your files and photos successfully, or kept the subscription only for an old benefit. Before cancelling, export or copy anything important and confirm that another service handles the backups you still need.
After a plan ends, an account above its storage limit may face restrictions involving Gmail, Drive, and Photos. Cancellation is not the same as immediate deletion, but exceeding the limit can create operational problems.

Apple iCloud+
iCloud+ is the natural alternative for iPhone, iPad, and Mac households that prioritize Apple backups, synchronization, family sharing, and privacy features. Apple’s Brazilian page has listed tiers such as 50 GB for R$5.90 per month, 200 GB for R$19.90, and 2 TB for R$66.90. It is not a like-for-like replacement for Google Photos, Gmail storage, or Android backups.
Dropbox
Dropbox is better suited to file storage, sharing, transfers, recovery, and document workflows across platforms. Its Brazilian site has displayed prices in U.S. dollars, including Plus at US$9.99 per month and Family at US$16.99 per month. That currency difference, along with taxes and plan limits, means it should not be called cheaper without a current checkout comparison.
Microsoft OneDrive and Microsoft 365
OneDrive is compelling when you already need Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft 365. It is less suitable if your main requirement is Google Photos and Gmail storage. Check Microsoft’s live Brazilian page for the current price rather than importing pricing from another market.

How to check your real price before the next charge
- Open Google One while signed in to the relevant Google account.
- Open Manage membership or the plan-management area.
- Review the displayed renewal amount and billing date.
- Identify whether Google, Google Play, Apple, or another provider handles the billing.
- Compare the plan’s storage with your actual usage and any family members sharing the quota.
Google says members may also see a price-change banner on the web or in the Android and iOS apps. The account’s renewal screen is more useful than a historical article because it reflects the plan, channel, currency, promotion, and eligibility attached to your subscription.
