Gemini does not have one universal daily prompt limit. Google sets usage limits by plan, model, feature, prompt complexity, conversation length, and available capacity. For Gemini Apps, some usage refreshes every five hours, but a weekly ceiling can also apply; separate tools such as Deep Research, image generation, and video creation have their own limits.
As of September 24, 2026, Google describes the main plan limits in relative terms rather than promising a fixed number of prompts. Those limits can change, so the Usage display in your account is more useful than an old article quoting a single daily count.

These are broad comparisons, not guaranteed prompt counts or multipliers for every feature. Google says usage depends on the model, feature, prompt complexity, conversation length, and system capacity. It can change limits without notice. Why “daily limit” is only shorthand
Gemini usage is made up of several different limits, and hitting one does not necessarily mean you have exhausted every part of the service:

- Model limits: Advanced models and higher reasoning modes can have tighter usage limits than faster, lighter models.
- Feature quotas: Deep Research, image and video generation, and other tools may have separate allowances.
- Context window: This is how much material Gemini can consider in a prompt or conversation—not how many prompts you can send.
- Concurrent tasks: Research or generation tools can limit how many jobs run at once.
- Capacity restrictions: Limits or access can be reduced during periods of high demand, particularly for free users.
For the main Gemini Apps experience, Google says usage refreshes every five hours until a weekly limit is reached. A five-hour refresh therefore does not mean the entire account resets every five hours. Some features instead use daily limits, and some product quotas may have other intervals. Do not assume every counter resets at midnight.
Free Gemini limits
Without a Google AI plan, Gemini provides standard limits. Google does not publish one permanent, universal number of free prompts per day on its current main limits page. The amount you can use can vary with the selected model, the work you ask it to do, the length of the conversation, feature-specific quotas, and demand.
Google lists access for free users to Gemini 3 Flash-Lite, Gemini 3 Flash, and Gemini 3 Pro, but model access and limits may vary by account and availability. The free plan’s Gemini Apps context window is 32,000 tokens. Free users may also lose access to compute-intensive features, including Deep Research, during high-demand periods before subscribers do.

If an old article says free Gemini accounts always get a set number of prompts each day, treat that figure cautiously. It may describe a particular model, region, rollout, or earlier quota system rather than your current allowance.
Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra limits
Google AI Plus: more headroom for regular use
Google describes AI Plus as offering limits 2× higher than standard, with a 128,000-token context window. It can suit someone who uses Gemini regularly, needs more room than the free tier, or works with larger files. It is still subject to feature-specific and capacity-related limits; “2×” should not be read as exactly twice as many daily image generations, research reports, or prompts in every model.
Google AI Pro: frequent use and long-context work
Google describes AI Pro as offering 4× standard limits and a 1-million-token context window. That larger context can help with long documents, code, study materials, and substantial analysis, but it does not grant one million tokens of daily usage or remove message limits.
Pro remains subject to limits for individual models and features. Google also says each product has its own AI usage limit. Pro membership is tied to a personal Google Account; storage and other included benefits depend on the specific plan. Check the Google AI Pro details and the checkout page for current regional plan options. AI credits may be available for supported products after baseline limits, but Google does not describe them as a universal way to extend every Gemini Apps prompt quota.
Google AI Ultra: highest access, not unlimited access
Ultra is aimed at very heavy users and people who need higher access to advanced models or high-compute tools. Google states that the Gemini and Antigravity usage quota is 5× or 20× that of Pro, depending on the Ultra subscription. That is not one multiplier that applies to every Gemini feature. Ultra still has limits, and availability can differ by plan, country, account, and feature. See Google’s AI Ultra details for the plan-specific benefits.
Ultra can make sense for sustained use of tools such as Deep Research, video generation, Flow, or Antigravity, if those features are available in your region and central to your work. It is difficult to justify for ordinary chat alone. Plan storage and other benefits also vary by subscription.

Limits for Deep Research, images, video, and other features
Do not assume that a text prompt and a generated image draw from the same allowance. Google’s feature matrix treats tools such as image generation, video generation, Deep Research, music generation, scheduled actions, and other capabilities separately, with availability and access varying by plan.
Deep Research
Deep Research has a daily research-request limit and a limit on how many requests can run simultaneously. Pro and Ultra users receive higher report limits, and Gemini can show how many requests remain as you approach the limit. Image generation and editing, video generation, audio overviews, and other compute-intensive features may have their own quotas or availability rules. Whether an attempt, failed output, or regeneration consumes a unit depends on the feature’s rules; do not presume that every tool counts usage in the same way. Check the feature’s in-product notice and Google’s current plan information for your country and account.

How to check your current Gemini usage
- Open Gemini while signed in to the Google Account you use for the service.
- Open Settings, usually in the lower-left corner.
- Select Usage Limits or Usage.
- Review the usage details and any message explaining when access refreshes.
The label or location may vary slightly by account, region, app version, or interface rollout. When a limit is close or reached, Gemini may also show a notice with the relevant refresh information. That account-specific display is more authoritative than a static prompt count because Google may change limits and roll out changes unevenly.
What happens when you reach a limit?
Gemini can warn you as you approach a limit and show when access is expected to refresh. Depending on what you used, you can wait for the relevant refresh, switch to an available model or feature, or consider a plan with higher limits. Google documents that subscribers may be able to continue a conversation with Flash-Lite, but this is not a promise that every chat or feature automatically falls back to that model.
A paid plan raises access; it does not make Gemini unlimited. A Pro user can still hit a Deep Research, image, video, or advanced-model limit. A capacity restriction may also occur separately from a normal quota. If the notice says a weekly limit applies, waiting only five hours may not restore access.

Do not count on starting a new chat or switching from the web app to mobile as a reset. Treat Gemini limits as tied to the account, plan, model, feature, and applicable usage window—not as reliable per-chat or per-device counters. Google does not document a new conversation as a dependable way to evade a quota.
How to make your usage go further
- Use Flash-Lite or Flash for routine summarizing, rewriting, brainstorming, and straightforward questions.
- Save Pro, extended thinking, or other advanced modes for tasks that need deeper analysis, such as difficult coding, mathematics, or complex research.
- Keep ongoing chats focused. Google says conversation length affects usage, so an unnecessarily long thread can use more capacity.
- Use feature-specific tools only when they add value; Deep Research and media generation are distinct from ordinary text chat.
- When you hit a limit, read the exact notice before changing plans: it may identify a feature quota, a refresh time, or a weekly ceiling.
Which plan should you choose?
- Stay free if you ask occasional questions, work mostly in short chats, and can wait when access is constrained.
- Consider AI Plus if you use Gemini regularly and want more headroom and a larger context window, but do not need Pro’s 1-million-token context.
- Consider AI Pro for frequent work, large files, coding, study, or analysis—especially if the broader Google storage and productivity benefits matter to you. It is not unlimited.
- Consider AI Ultra only if you regularly depend on the highest available access to advanced models and compute-intensive tools. Its value is much harder to justify for casual chat.
Plan availability, benefits, and prices can vary by country, billing cycle, and plan variant. Check Google One for the current offer in your region before subscribing. If you already have Pro or Ultra, AI credits may cover usage in supported products such as Flow or Antigravity; check eligibility rather than assuming they apply to a Gemini Apps limit.
Gemini Apps is not the Gemini API
This guide covers the consumer Gemini Apps experience at gemini.google.com. Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, Vertex AI, Workspace Gemini, Gemini Notebook, Flow, and Antigravity have separate billing, quotas, or usage rules. A Gemini Apps subscription should not be treated as unlimited API access.
