Google Antigravity is Google’s agentic development platform: a set of tools that lets AI agents plan and carry out coding tasks, not just suggest the next line of code. The name now covers several products: the original Antigravity IDE, the standalone Antigravity 2.0 desktop app, a command-line interface (CLI), an SDK for building agent systems, and a Google Cloud enterprise integration. Which one you want depends on whether you prefer to edit in an IDE, manage several agents, work in a terminal, or deploy under company controls.
What is Google Antigravity?
In plain terms, Google Antigravity is software for delegating software-development work to AI agents. An agent can take a broader goal, plan steps, change files, run terminal commands and, in some workflows, launch and test an application in a browser. Google introduced the platform as an agent-first development environment, where developers can hand off multi-step work rather than request code completions one by one (Google’s original Antigravity announcement).
“Agentic” describes the workflow, not a guarantee that the software will finish a task correctly or safely. A coding agent may make a plan, use tools and report its results, but its changes still need review and independent testing. It should not be treated as an unsupervised developer with unrestricted access to production systems.

Google’s 2026 announcements broadened Antigravity from the original IDE into a product family. Google’s Antigravity blog documents the product history; the main distinction now is between the editor-oriented IDE and Antigravity 2.0, a separate desktop app for coordinating agents.

Antigravity IDE vs. Antigravity 2.0
| Product | What it is for | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Antigravity IDE | The original editor-centered, AI-powered development environment, introduced in November 2025. It combines coding tools with an agent-oriented workflow. | Developers who want to work in an editor and delegate tasks from that environment. |
| Antigravity 2.0 | A separate standalone desktop application. Its focus is a command center for managing multiple agents, projects and workspaces, reviewing artifacts, and handling synchronous or asynchronous work. | Developers who want to supervise and coordinate agents across tasks rather than make an editor the center of the experience. |
| Antigravity CLI | A terminal-oriented way to interact with Antigravity agents. | Terminal-first workflows and supported enterprise setups. |
| Antigravity SDK | Tools for building specialized agent systems. | Developers constructing their own agent-based applications or workflows. |
Google describes Antigravity 2.0 as a separate application from the IDE, not simply a new name for it (Antigravity 2.0 announcement). Google’s product direction and installers may evolve, so check the official Antigravity homepage before downloading: choose the editor-based product if you want an IDE, and 2.0 if you want the standalone agent manager. The enterprise integration currently supports Antigravity 2.0 and CLI, but not Antigravity IDE, according to Google’s enterprise documentation.
What can Antigravity agents do?
Depending on the product surface, model, permissions and task, Antigravity agents can:
- Write and change code across multiple files.
- Run commands in a terminal and use project tools.
- Launch an application and use browser-based workflows to inspect or test it.
- Produce artifacts for a developer to review and comment on.
- Work asynchronously, with multiple agents handling separate tasks or workspaces.
- Support scheduled messages or tasks in the Antigravity 2.0 workflow.
- Connect to Google Cloud in supported enterprise deployments.
These are product capabilities, not reliability guarantees. A task that succeeds in a small example may fail in a large repository with unusual build steps, incomplete tests or ambiguous requirements. Review what the agent changed, inspect its commands and verify the outcome yourself. A test suite written or edited by the same agent is useful evidence, but it is not independent proof that the implementation is correct.

Models: what is listed and what may vary
Google’s current Antigravity pricing page lists Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini 3.1 Pro, Gemini 3 Flash, Claude Sonnet 4.6, Claude Opus 4.6 and GPT-OSS-120B. That list does not mean every model will be available in every account, region, plan or Antigravity surface. Availability can depend on account type, product version, enterprise configuration, quota and capacity. Check the model selector and the plans documentation for your account.
As a rule of thumb, a fast model can be a sensible choice for straightforward edits, explanations or short feedback loops. A more capable reasoning model may help with ambiguous requirements or debugging across files. Neither category guarantees better code: task clarity, repository context, tools, tests and human review also matter.
How to download and start using Antigravity
- Visit the official Antigravity homepage and identify the product you want: IDE, 2.0, CLI or SDK.
- Choose the installer shown for your operating system and hardware. Google’s Antigravity 2.0 announcement names macOS, Linux and Windows; the homepage shows Mac downloads for Apple Silicon and Intel. Confirm current options on the download page rather than relying on a filename or package command from an older guide.
- Install and open the application, then follow its sign-in and project or workspace setup prompts.
- Start with a bounded task in a branch or disposable copy: for example, explain a module, add tests for an existing function, update documentation or fix a small reproducible bug.
- Read the proposed plan and limit permissions to what that task needs. Inspect diffs, artifacts, commands and dependency changes before accepting them.
- Run the project’s tests and checks yourself. Commit only after reviewing the changes and confirming the result.
Exact onboarding buttons and labels can change as the products evolve. For a first session, avoid production credentials, sensitive customer data and tasks with irreversible effects. A small task lets you see how the agent plans, what tools it invokes and how much supervision your workflow needs.

Is Google Antigravity free?
Google lists a $0-per-month individual plan on its pricing page. It includes access to listed agent models, unlimited tab completions and command requests, plus basic weekly rate limits. “Unlimited” here does not mean unlimited autonomous-agent work: Google’s plans documentation says free users have a weekly quota and rate limits for agent usage.
Google’s May 19, 2026 plan announcement stated that Google AI Pro cost $20 per month at that time and described a new Google AI Ultra tier at $100 per month, alongside a reduction in the top-tier price from $250 to $200 per month (Google’s plan announcement). These are figures from that dated announcement, not a guarantee of today’s price in every country. Check Google’s current checkout page for plan names, local pricing, taxes and promotions before subscribing.
For paid individual users, Google describes higher quotas for Pro and the highest quotas for Ultra; Pro and Ultra users may also be able to use a flexible AI credit pool for overages, depending on their settings. Quota use depends on the work an agent performs, not simply the number of prompts. If you are deciding whether to upgrade, try the free plan first and measure whether your actual work is interrupted often enough to justify paying.

Antigravity for Google Cloud and enterprise teams
Enterprise access is a different billing and governance path from a personal Google AI subscription. Google offers Antigravity 2.0 and CLI through the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, billed by Google Cloud consumption. Its enterprise integration does not currently support Antigravity IDE (enterprise documentation).
At a high level, an organization needs to:
- Create or select a Google Cloud project and enable billing.
- Enable the Agent Platform API,
aiplatform.googleapis.com. - Grant the required IAM permissions, including the Agent Platform User role for users who need access.
- Configure Antigravity 2.0 or CLI to use the project and location.
- Set up required governance, logging, network controls and cost monitoring.
Google’s enterprise documentation lists Global, Multi-region EU and Multi-region US endpoint choices and says image generation is not currently available in the EU and US locations. Regional capabilities can change, so verify the current documentation for the location you intend to use. The same documentation says you must log out of Antigravity CLI or Hub before switching to another project or location; changing project or location while logged in is not currently supported.

Retention, access, logging, residency and controls depend on the applicable terms, project configuration and organization policy. Teams should review Google’s enterprise announcement and documentation with their administrators before using sensitive code or data.

Is Antigravity safe to use?
It can be useful, but the relevant question is what access you give it and what actions you allow—not whether an agent is described as autonomous. Repositories, web pages, issue trackers and documentation can contain misleading or malicious instructions. An agent with terminal or browser access may install an untrusted package, expose a secret, run a destructive command or cause an external side effect. It can also report success when a task is incomplete or change tests in a way that hides a bug.
- Use least privilege. Do not provide production credentials or broad cloud permissions for a local coding task.
- Protect secrets. Remove sensitive tokens from repositories and environment files, and do not paste confidential or regulated data into an account that your organization has not approved.
- Contain changes. Use version control, a separate branch or a disposable workspace, and keep a backup or clear rollback path.
- Review commands and side effects. Check shell operations, package installs, network access, browser actions and deployment steps before allowing them.
- Validate independently. Run tests, inspect diffs and check the application yourself; do not rely only on the agent’s summary or tests it generated.
- Control spending. Understand quotas and overage settings, and disable automatic extra spending if you do not intend to use it.
Production database migrations, security-sensitive authentication changes, infrastructure deletion, automatic deployments and payment or authorization changes are poor first tasks to delegate without close review, strong tests and a recovery plan.
Who should use Google Antigravity?
| If you are… | A sensible starting point |
|---|---|
| Curious about agentic coding | Try the free individual plan on a small, non-sensitive project. |
| Wanting to code inside an AI-oriented editor | Check whether Antigravity IDE is currently offered for your intended workflow. |
| Coordinating several asynchronous tasks or agents | Evaluate Antigravity 2.0, the standalone manager. |
| Terminal-first | Look at Antigravity CLI; enterprise use is supported through the Google Cloud integration. |
| Building a custom agent system | Explore the Antigravity SDK. |
| Working in an organization standardized on Google Cloud | Assess Antigravity 2.0 or CLI through Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, with your cloud and security administrators. |
Antigravity is a stronger fit if you want to delegate multi-step tasks, use several agents or work in Google’s development ecosystem. A conventional editor-first assistant may suit you better if you prefer to direct every edit, need a stable established workflow or do not want agents running terminal and browser operations. Alternatives serve different workflows: Cursor and Windsurf are editor-oriented options; GitHub Copilot emphasizes editor and GitHub integration; Claude Code and Gemini CLI are terminal-oriented; Google AI Studio is for prototyping Gemini-powered applications rather than replacing a full local development environment. Their current features and pricing were not evaluated here, so compare their official documentation before choosing.

Google Antigravity is not one editor under one fixed name anymore. Choose the IDE for an editor-centered workflow, Antigravity 2.0 to manage agents, CLI for terminal interaction, SDK for custom agent systems, or the Google Cloud integration for supported organizational deployment. The free plan is a practical place to experiment, but agent quotas are limited; upgrade only after you know your usage warrants it. Whichever surface you choose, treat agent output as a draft: limit access, inspect actions and changes, and verify results before they reach important systems.
