Gemini for TV is officially rolling out to selected Google TV devices, and a report says it has appeared early on at least one Sony Bravia television. Screenshots show a voice picker with 10 botanical-themed choices. That is evidence of a limited or staged appearance—not confirmation that Gemini is available across Sony’s TV lineup.
What appeared on the Sony Bravia?
A Sony Bravia owner reportedly saw Gemini for TV after updating the Google TV Home app through the Play Store on a television running Android TV 14. The October 2025 report included screenshots of the Gemini experience and its voice-selection screen. Sony was not on Google’s original list of launch devices, so this is best understood as a reported early appearance, not a formal Sony-wide release. TechRadar’s report and screenshots document the observation.
An app update, an operating-system update and a feature rollout are different things. Google TV Home can update through the Play Store without the TV receiving a new Android TV version. Gemini may also depend on a server-side rollout or account-level availability. Updating the app therefore does not guarantee that Gemini will appear, and an icon showing up on one Bravia does not establish support for every Sony model.
What the screenshots show about the voices
The report describes a selector with 10 voice choices and shows botanical-style names including Oxalis, Fern, Croton, Amaryllis, Pothos and Calathea. Those examples are attributed to the reported screenshots; Google has not published a complete, universal list of these 10 names in its support material. The choices visible to you may differ by device, region or rollout stage.

Google’s help page confirms that Gemini for TV supports selectable, more expressive voices. Changing the voice changes how the assistant sounds; it does not, by itself, change the TV’s capabilities, Gemini’s supported features or the accuracy of its answers. Voice labels may also refer to different characteristics on Google TV than on other Google products.
Google’s official rollout—and the Sony report
Google announced Gemini for TV on September 22, 2025, launching first on the TCL QM9K in the United States and Canada. Its initial announcement named additional TCL and Hisense televisions, Google TV Streamer and Walmart’s onn. 4K Pro as devices to follow. Google announced the Streamer rollout on November 10, 2025. The Bravia sighting was reported on October 20, between those announcements; it was not a Sony launch announcement.
Google has since described broader Gemini capabilities for TV, including richer answers and narrated explanations. Its launch announcement and Google TV Streamer update establish the official rollout separately from the user-reported Sony appearance.

Which devices are officially listed?
Google’s current eligibility information lists selected models, rather than every television in a manufacturer’s range. As of the August 16, 2026 research snapshot, the listed devices are:

Eligibility is also limited by geography, language and account: Google’s support page specifies the United States or Canada, supported English or French configurations, and profiles associated with users aged 18 or older for Gemini AI responses. Kids profiles do not receive those responses. The exact model and local configuration matter, so check Google’s current Gemini for TV eligibility and setup information.
Google says it plans to expand support to additional devices running Android TV 14 or later with at least 2 GB of RAM by late 2026. That is a future expansion plan, not a promise that every Android TV 14 device—or every Sony Bravia—will qualify.

What Gemini for TV can do
Gemini is designed for conversational use from the couch. Depending on the device and available features, you can ask it to:

- Find something to watch using preferences from more than one person, then refine the request with follow-up questions.
- Recap earlier seasons, answer questions about a show or movie, or help identify a title you cannot remember.
- Explain general or educational topics, including narrated deep dives and answers supported with relevant YouTube videos.
- Get news and sports briefs. Google says these briefs summarize topics found through Google Search.
- On supported TCL models, adjust picture and sound settings by voice. Selected TCL devices also have experimental image- and video-generation features.
Google positions Gemini as an upgrade to Google Assistant on supported televisions, while retaining basic Assistant functionality. Do not assume every older Assistant command behaves identically: conversational discovery is a central use case, while device controls and feature availability vary by model and software. Gemini for TV is also distinct from Gemini for Home, which is intended for supported Google Home and Nest devices.
How to check whether Gemini is available
- On the TV, open Settings.
- Choose Accounts & Profiles, then select the relevant Google account or profile.
- Open Voice assistant and look for Gemini for TV.
- If it is offered, follow the setup prompts and choose a voice if the selector is available.
Google says an eligible television must be added to Google Home, and setup may ask you to acknowledge Gemini for the relevant Home. If the menu item is missing, first confirm that the set uses Google TV, not merely a different Android TV interface, and check the exact model against Google’s supported-device list. Then install available Google TV Home and system-app updates from Google Play, confirm the account age and supported language and country settings, and add the TV to the same Google Home as the account. Restart the TV and check the Voice assistant menu again.

Those checks can resolve setup issues, but they cannot force a staged rollout. Availability may depend on the device, account, region or Google’s server-side enablement. Changing your region or language is not a reliable workaround, and sideloading unofficial APKs is not a sensible way to activate a feature tied to eligibility and account setup. Google says there is no conventional universal Gemini on/off switch; removing an eligible TV from Google Home returns it to Google Assistant.

A living-room TV is a shared device. Account-linked results may expose personal information from services such as Google Photos or Calendar to people nearby. Google recommends Voice Match for more controlled personal results, but warns that a similar voice or a recording may still pose a risk. Hands-free microphones can also react to sounds resembling “Hey Google” or “OK Google.” Review the account and microphone settings before enabling voice features in a shared household.

Google cautions that Gemini responses can be inaccurate, offensive or inappropriate, and that results may vary as the software evolves. Treat its answers as general assistance, not as a source for medical, legal or financial decisions.

Should you buy a device just for Gemini?
If you already own a model on Google’s eligibility list, check the settings and wait for availability rather than buying another device just to get Gemini. If your TV is unsupported, the Bravia report is not a reliable reason to expect an update. Google TV Streamer is an officially listed add-on route for a compatible display, but check regional and account requirements before buying. Replacing a television makes more sense when you also want a panel upgrade; Gemini alone is not a reason to overlook picture quality, HDR, motion handling or price.
Gemini for TV may not require a separate Gemini subscription, but that does not make it universally available: access depends on supported hardware, location, language, age and setup. Verify current eligibility before making a purchase.
