Gaming performance: rasterization, ray tracing, and generated frames
1080p rasterized gaming
With ray tracing disabled and both cards rendering natively, the RX 6750 XT is generally faster. Its wider memory bus, higher bandwidth, larger framebuffer, and higher product tier show most clearly in GPU-limited games. The gap shrinks when a fast CPU limits frame rates, especially in esports titles at very high refresh rates. TechPowerUp found the RX 6700 XT approximately 13% ahead of the RTX 4060 in its 1080p suite; the RX 6750 XT is a higher-clocked, faster-memory version, but that result is not a universal percentage for every game or driver. See the TechPowerUp RTX 4060 review.

1440p rasterized gaming
The RX 6750 XT is the natural choice for 1440p. Its 12 GB of VRAM and 192-bit interface delay texture and bandwidth compromises, while the RTX 4060 more often needs reduced settings or upscaling. Neither card should be presented as a consistent native-4K Ultra solution. TechPowerUp describes the RX 6750 XT as a strong 1440p card and the RTX 4060 as primarily 1080p, with 1440p possible using reduced settings or upscaling (RX 6750 XT review; RTX 4060 review).
Ray tracing
The RTX 4060 is the stronger ray-tracing option. Ada’s dedicated RT hardware and broad DLSS support usually preserve more performance when reflections, shadows, or global-illumination effects are enabled. It is not a high-end RT card: demanding games can still require DLSS, lower settings, or frame generation, and 8 GB can become a constraint. The RX 6750 XT supports hardware ray tracing but is generally slower in this workload. Feature information is available in NVIDIA’s guide and the GeForce comparison page.
Upscaling and frame generation
RTX 4060 supports DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Frame Generation, plus Reflex for latency reduction. RX 6750 XT supports FSR and driver-level Radeon Super Resolution. FSR can run on many GPU brands, while game-specific implementation and image quality vary.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Native FPS: frames rendered at the display resolution without upscaling.
- Upscaled FPS: the game renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the image.
- Displayed frame-generated FPS: generated frames are inserted between rendered frames.
- Latency and image quality: frame generation does not replace adequate base-frame performance and can add artifacts or latency.
Do not count generated frames as if they were native rendered frames. Verify support in the games you actually play; technology availability changes by title and update.
VRAM and longer-term usability
What 12 GB gives the RX 6750 XT
The RX 6750 XT’s 12 GB on a 192-bit bus is safer for 1440p, high-resolution texture packs, large open worlds, mods, and ray-traced settings that increase memory pressure. It does not make the card faster in every workload, but it provides more room before texture quality or other settings must be reduced.
Where 8 GB remains workable
The RTX 4060’s 8 GB remains adequate for many 1080p games. A VRAM limit is game- and-setting-dependent rather than an automatic failure. If memory is exhausted, lower texture quality first, then consider reducing ray-tracing effects, output resolution, or the internal render scale. The 8 GB design gives less headroom for 1440p, heavy mods, and future texture demands. TechPowerUp characterizes the limitation as an edge-case risk rather than a universal immediate problem.
Twelve gigabytes is more comfortable, not a guarantee of future performance. Game engines, patches, drivers, resolution, and settings determine actual behavior.
Power, cooling, connectors, and platform fit
RTX 4060: efficient and easy to integrate
NVIDIA describes roughly 110 W average gaming power, while TechPowerUp measured about 130 W on its MSI test card; board, BIOS, game, and test method explain the difference. This enables quieter cooling, less heat in the case, and many short or slim models. NVIDIA’s 550 W recommendation is for the reference class, not an immutable requirement for every complete system. Check the exact card’s connector and dimensions.

- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
RX 6750 XT: faster, but substantially hungrier
AMD lists 250 W typical board power and recommends a 650 W system PSU. TechPowerUp measured 286 W in gaming on an overclocked MSI Gaming X Trio, so that result should not be applied to every RX 6750 XT. AMD’s reference specification uses one 8-pin plus one 6-pin connector; partner designs vary. Plan for stronger airflow, more heat, and potentially more fan noise.
PCIe and CPU considerations
The RTX 4060 uses PCIe 4.0 x8; the RX 6750 XT uses PCIe 4.0 x16. On PCIe 4.0 platforms this is normally not a major issue. On older PCIe 3.0 systems, the RTX 4060’s narrower link can be more sensitive in some games and asset-streaming situations. At high refresh rates, a CPU limit can hide much of either GPU’s advantage.

The RTX 4060 has hardware AV1 encoding and decoding, NVENC, CUDA, Broadcast effects, Reflex, and broad support in applications built around NVIDIA’s ecosystem. That can outweigh gaming differences for OBS streaming, video editing, 3D rendering, AI-assisted tools, noise removal, or webcam effects. NVIDIA documents these capabilities in its RTX 4060 guide.

AMD’s official RX 6750 XT specifications list H.264 and H.265 encode/decode and AV1 decode, but do not list AV1 encode (AMD specifications). Application support changes, so confirm the exact software version and workflow rather than assuming one vendor wins every creator task.
How much more should you pay?
The $299 RTX 4060 and $549 RX 6750 XT launch MSRPs are historical figures from different market conditions, not August 2026 deal prices. Use the current price, card condition, warranty, return policy, electricity cost, and availability of newer GPUs.
| Observed price relationship | Practical decision |
|---|---|
| RX 6750 XT costs the same or up to about $30–40 more | Choose it for gaming, especially 1440p, unless RT, compact size, low power, or NVIDIA software matters more. |
| RX 6750 XT costs about $50–75 more | Its performance and VRAM still suit 1440p; RTX 4060 is more defensible for 1080p and efficiency. |
| RX 6750 XT costs $100 or more extra | Compare newer-generation cards before buying either older model. |
| RTX 4060 is heavily discounted | It can be an excellent quiet, efficient 1080p card with DLSS and AV1. |
For used cards, inspect temperatures, fan noise, connector condition, mining history where relevant, remaining warranty, and the return policy. A lower purchase price can be offset by the RX 6750 XT’s higher electricity use if you play many hours each week.
Choose by buyer profile
Buy the RX 6750 XT if…
- You want the highest native raster performance at the same price.
- You play at 1440p or use high-resolution texture packs and mods.
- Your case has good airflow and your PSU can support the card.
- You value 12 GB of VRAM more than DLSS or NVIDIA-specific software.
Buy the RTX 4060 if…
- You prioritize ray tracing, DLSS, Frame Generation, or Reflex.
- You are building a compact or low-power system.
- You need AV1 encoding, NVENC, CUDA, Broadcast, or an application with NVIDIA-specific support.
- You mainly play 1080p and the RTX 4060 is substantially cheaper.
Skip both if…
- A newer card offers similar money performance with more VRAM or stronger ray tracing.
- The RX 6750 XT would require replacing an inadequate PSU or improving case airflow.
- The RTX 4060’s 8 GB does not meet your planned 1440p texture and mod requirements.
Bottom line
At equal prices, the Radeon RX 6750 XT is the better conventional gaming and 1440p card. The GeForce RTX 4060 is the better specialist choice for ray tracing, DLSS, efficiency, small cases, AV1/NVENC/CUDA workflows, and quiet low-power builds. In August 2026, make the final call only after checking the exact board-partner model, your PSU and case, the games and software you use, and whether a newer GPU is available for similar money.
