The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition officially launched on October 25, 2024, in South Korea. Samsung began sales at 9:00 a.m. Korea Standard Time. The phone was announced on October 21, but that was the announcement date—not the retail release date.
Samsung’s official product name was Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. “Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition” is a common search term describing its relationship to the 2024 Fold6 generation.

Announcement date versus retail launch date
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition on October 21, 2024, through Samsung Newsroom Korea. Retail sales started four days later, on Friday, October 25, at 9:00 a.m. Korean time. The official announcement is available from Samsung’s Korean newsroom.

Where did it launch?
This was announced as a domestic South Korean release. Samsung sold it through its Korean online store and the online stores of the country’s three major carriers:

Samsung also planned pop-up locations at major Korean department stores from October 25 for approximately two weeks, although individual store schedules varied.
The cited official announcement did not list a United States or worldwide release. Therefore, October 25, 2024 should not be described as a U.S. launch date. It is the confirmed South Korean retail date.
How much did it cost?
The Korean launch price was ₩2,789,600. That is a South Korean price from October 2024, not a U.S. MSRP or a current 2026 price.
For context, Samsung listed the standard Korean Galaxy Z Fold6 at ₩2,229,700 for 256GB, ₩2,388,100 for 512GB and ₩2,704,900 for 1TB. The Special Edition therefore launched above all three standard Fold6 configurations in Korea.
What made the Special Edition different?
Samsung presented it as a substantially redesigned, thinner foldable rather than merely a cosmetic color variant of the regular Fold6. Its headline specifications were:

Compared with the standard Fold6, Samsung said the Special Edition was 1.5 mm thinner and 3 g lighter. It also offered larger, wider displays, a 200MP main camera instead of 50MP, and 16GB of memory instead of the 12GB configurations Samsung cited for the standard model. Both used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold6 launched earlier, with Korean availability beginning July 24, 2024. Samsung’s U.S. announcement also listed July 24, 2024 as its general-availability date. That date applies to the regular Fold6, not the Special Edition.

Samsung officially announced a South Korean launch, and the cited announcement did not confirm U.S. or global availability. It is therefore safest to treat the Special Edition as a Korea-launched model rather than assume that Samsung sold it through normal U.S. channels.
As of 2026, historical launch information should not be confused with current stock. Anyone considering an imported or used unit should verify:
- Korean model number and firmware region
- 4G/5G band and carrier compatibility
- Physical SIM and eSIM restrictions
- Samsung Wallet, payment and regional-service support
- Warranty and repair eligibility in the buyer’s country
- Language, software-update and carrier-feature limitations
A marketplace listing does not by itself prove current Samsung support, official warranty coverage or compatibility with a particular network.
Launch promotions
Samsung said customers who bought and activated the phone by December 31, 2024 could receive discount coupons for selected Galaxy products, including the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Buds3 Pro and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra. These were time-limited 2024 launch promotions and should not be assumed to remain valid.
Bottom line
The confirmed retail launch date was October 25, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. KST in South Korea. October 21 was the announcement date. Samsung called the device the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, and the official announcement did not establish a U.S. or worldwide launch.
