Samsung’s regular Galaxy Z Flip7 launched with its Exynos 2500 processor; it is no longer just a plan or pre-launch rumor. The distinction matters: the less expensive Galaxy Z Flip7 FE uses Exynos 2400, while the Galaxy Z Fold7 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Buyers choosing between these phones should compare the exact model, not assume every Flip7-branded device has the same chip.
What Samsung announced—and what shipped
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Flip7 on July 9, 2025, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7 FE and Galaxy Watch8 products. General availability began July 25, 2025. The chip split across the foldable range is deliberate in the product specifications: the regular Flip7 is listed with Exynos 2500, the FE with Exynos 2400, and the Fold7 with Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Why the Exynos choice matters
The Flip7 marks a shift for Samsung’s premium clamshell line: it uses Samsung’s own Exynos mobile platform instead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip used in the Flip6. Samsung’s 2025 third-quarter interim report describes the Flip7 as using a latest 3nm processor and highlights AI, portability, battery capacity and DeX support. Samsung has not, in the cited launch material, stated that cost savings or a supply problem drove the decision.
Using its own processor gives Samsung more direct control over the silicon platform and its integration with Galaxy hardware and software. Reduced dependence on Qualcomm is a reasonable strategic inference, not a confirmed explanation from Samsung. For users, the meaningful questions are how the chip performs in sustained workloads, how warm the phone gets, and whether battery life holds up—not the processor brand by itself.
Exynos 2500 in the Flip7: the rest of the package
Samsung’s corporate report lists the Flip7 with Android 16 and One UI 8.0, a 4,300mAh battery, a 6.9-inch main display and a 4.1-inch cover display. The phone weighs 188g. Folded, it measures 85.5 × 75.2 × 13.7mm; unfolded, 166.7 × 75.2 × 6.5mm. Samsung also lists Gorilla Glass Victus2, an Armor Aluminum frame, an Armor Flex hinge and an IP48 rating. The Flip7 is also the first Flip-series model with Samsung DeX, according to that report. DeX support is a practical addition for people who want to connect the phone to an external display and use a desktop-style interface; it is a separate benefit from the processor’s benchmark performance.

What independent testing says about performance
Android Central’s review recorded the following results on its test device. These are one publication’s measurements, not guaranteed scores for every unit or a standardized prediction of daily performance. Android Central’s Galaxy Z Flip7 review

The review found the Flip7 broadly competitive among clamshell foldables, with strong AI results and competitive graphics for its category. In Geekbench CPU testing, it trailed the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered Motorola Razr Ultra 2025. The reviewer also reported possible overheating in challenging conditions. That is a qualified observation from one review, not evidence that every Flip7 overheats or that the chip is unsuitable for ordinary use.
For gaming, a short benchmark burst cannot answer how a phone behaves through a long session. Frame-rate stability, surface temperature and battery drain under sustained play matter too. The available review supports caution about demanding workloads, but does not establish a universal gaming verdict.
Battery life: capacity is not runtime
The Flip7’s 4,300mAh battery is larger than the Flip6’s 4,000mAh unit, but capacity alone does not predict how long a phone lasts between charges. Android Central found battery life broadly similar to the Flip6 in its testing and suggested the Exynos 2500 could be one factor. That is the reviewer’s interpretation of its results, not a controlled finding that the processor caused the outcome or a guarantee of runtime for all users.

Flip7 versus Flip7 FE: the processor distinction
The FE is not simply another configuration of the regular Flip7. Samsung’s US comparison lists different chips, screen sizes and battery capacities. The prices below are Samsung US unlocked MSRP for the listed storage configurations in its December 2025 price file, not current sale prices; Samsung says prices may change without notice. The regular Flip7 is the choice if you specifically want Exynos 2500, the larger screens or DeX. The FE costs less at the cited US MSRP and has smaller displays, a smaller battery and Exynos 2400. The $200 difference compares the respective 256GB MSRPs in that price file; it is not a claim about current checkout prices.

What changed from the Flip6?
The Flip7’s upgrade is broader than a chip swap. Samsung increased the main display from 6.7 to 6.9 inches and the cover display from 3.4 to 4.1 inches, and raised battery capacity from 4,000mAh to 4,300mAh. The Flip6 used Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, according to Android Central’s comparison; the Flip7 moves to Exynos 2500. The review describes the camera hardware as broadly similar: 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP selfie cameras. DeX is new to the Flip series with the Flip7.
For Flip6 owners, the larger cover screen, larger inner display and DeX are clearer reasons to consider upgrading than the processor name alone. The battery capacity increase is real, but the cited independent review found broadly similar endurance in its comparison.
Is Exynos 2500 a downgrade?
There is no useful yes-or-no answer without specifying the workload and comparison. The Flip7’s chip appears capable for ordinary use and competitive within the clamshell category, but it is not the fastest processor in the cited 2025 foldable comparison. Android Central measured lower Geekbench CPU scores than on the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered Razr Ultra 2025 and reported heat under demanding conditions. At the same time, its results included competitive graphics performance and a strong AI benchmark score.
Buyers who prioritize maximum CPU performance or long, demanding workloads should weigh those review findings and compare sustained-use testing, rather than choosing on a single peak score. For everyday use, the larger displays and DeX may matter more than the Exynos label.
Should you buy a Galaxy Z Flip7 now?
- Consider the regular Flip7 if you want the Exynos 2500 specifically, a larger cover screen, the larger main display or DeX, and find a price that makes sense against newer models.
- Consider the Flip7 FE if a lower entry price matters more than the Exynos 2500 and the larger displays.
- Look elsewhere or compare carefully if maximum sustained performance is your primary requirement; the cited review puts the Flip7 behind the Razr Ultra 2025 in CPU benchmark tests.
- If you own a Flip6, base the decision on the display and DeX improvements as well as price; the processor change alone is not a clear upgrade case.
