Samsung’s Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra were among the first phones—and the first Galaxy family—to receive Qi 2.1 certification. But the headline needs a qualification: the phones are Qi2 Ready, not equipped with built-in magnetic alignment. To attach to a magnetic charger or use MagSafe-style accessories, you need a compatible magnetic case. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) lists the Galaxy S25’s maximum load power as 15W; a separate Samsung statement says 25W, so buyers should not treat 25W as a settled, model-specific specification.
What “first” means for the Galaxy S25
The “first” claim is accurate when it refers to Qi 2.1 certification: WPC records and reporting based on them identify the Galaxy S25 series as the first group of smartphones certified to that version of the standard. The U.S. Galaxy S25 certification record gives a date of January 23, 2025, and lists Qi version 2.1.0, an EPP power profile and 15W maximum load power (WPC certification record; 9to5Google’s report on the S25 certifications).
That does not mean the S25 was the first phone with any Qi2 support, the first phone with built-in MagSafe-style magnets, or the first phone proven to charge wirelessly at 25W. The HMD Skyline supported earlier Qi2 functionality. The S25 distinction is more specific: its Qi2.1 implementation is Qi2 Ready, which allows the magnetic components to be supplied by a compatible case rather than built into the phone.

Qi is the Wireless Power Consortium’s wireless-charging standard. Qi2 is a later version intended to improve interoperability and alignment as well as charging efficiency. Its Magnetic Power Profile uses a magnetic alignment system derived from Apple’s contribution to the WPC. Better alignment helps place the phone’s charging coil over the charger’s coil; Qi2 is not simply a label for faster charging.

With Qi2.1, the Qi2 Ready approach can put the magnetic hardware in an approved or compatible case. Think of the S25 as prepared for the system while the case supplies the MagSafe-like physical alignment. The bare phone still supports wireless charging, but it does not reliably snap onto a magnetic charger or mount by itself.

“MagSafe-compatible” describes physical or functional compatibility; it does not mean the accessory or Samsung phone has Apple’s MagSafe certification. Likewise, a case with a generic magnetic ring is not automatically Qi2-certified. Check the case and accessory specifications for the exact S25 model and intended charging standard.
Does the Galaxy S25 have magnets?
No built-in magnetic alignment ring is documented for the Galaxy S25 series. A suitable magnetic case is required for the familiar snap-on experience with magnetic chargers, battery packs, stands and car mounts. Samsung sells a Galaxy S25 Clear Magnet Case; availability and price can vary by country and over time. A third-party case may also work, but verify that it is designed for your particular S25 model and accessory setup.
An ordinary case can still allow standard wireless charging, but it may not provide magnetic alignment. A thick case, misplaced metal plate or poorly positioned magnets can weaken attachment or interfere with charging. Samsung advises centering the phone on the charger and removing a thick case if needed (Samsung wireless-charging support).

How fast does it charge? The 15W-versus-25W discrepancy
The most precise independently documented figure for the U.S. Galaxy S25’s Qi certification is 15W maximum load power, according to the WPC record. Samsung’s January 2025 Newsroom summary, however, says the S25 series’ wireless charging increased to 25W from 15W (Samsung Newsroom). Those claims do not align, and the Newsroom statement does not resolve the exact model, charger, firmware or test conditions behind the 25W figure.
For that reason, treat 15W as the verified certification figure rather than assuming every S25 configuration will reach 25W. Qi2 support by itself does not establish a charging wattage. Nor does a charger advertised at 25W or more force the phone to accept that much power.
In practice, a maximum is not a sustained rate or a promise about how quickly a full charge will take. Charging can vary with battery level, temperature, coil alignment, case thickness, charger and wall adapter, and whether you are using the phone heavily. Wireless charging commonly slows as the battery nears full. Magnetic alignment can make positioning more consistent, but it does not guarantee faster charging. For predictable maximum speed, wired charging is the safer choice.

What changed from the Galaxy S24?
The S24 already supported conventional Qi wireless charging; Samsung lists both the S24 and S25 families among its wirelessly chargeable phones. The S25’s meaningful change is Qi 2.1 certification and Qi2 Ready compatibility: with the right case, it has a more standardized path to magnetic wireless accessories. It is not the introduction of wireless charging to Galaxy S phones, and it does not make the bare handset magnetic.

The certification and reporting cover the Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra. Do not assume every Samsung model released in 2025 has the same certification or accessory behavior; check the exact model and case.

- A case made for your exact S25 model. Look for clear information that it supplies magnetic alignment and is intended for Qi2 or the accessory you plan to use. “Magnetic” alone does not guarantee Qi2 certification or proper coil alignment.
- A compatible accessory. This could be a magnetic Qi2 charging stand, power bank or car mount. A magnetic mount that does not charge still needs a case to hold the phone securely. Check model-specific fit, ring placement and charging support.
- A suitable power adapter. The wall adapter must be appropriate for the charger. A higher-rated adapter may provide headroom, but the phone and charging setup determine the rate.
If you already own a magnetic Qi2 or MagSafe-style charger, a verified S25 magnetic case may be all you need. If you only use a flat Qi pad, the S25 already supports that; buying a new magnetic accessory is optional. If you dislike cases or want the highest predictable speed, Qi2 Ready is a less compelling reason to choose the phone.
When Qi2 Ready is useful—and when it is not
- Useful: You want a magnetic car mount, desk stand or battery pack; you already use magnetic accessories; or you want the phone to align more easily on a compatible charger.
- Less useful: You charge on a flat Qi pad and have no need for magnetic attachment, do not want to use a case, or are choosing a phone mainly for the fastest wireless charging.
Magnetic alignment is principally a convenience and positioning improvement. It does not automatically make wireless charging faster or eliminate heat. In a hot car or during demanding navigation, gaming or other heavy use, temperature can cause charging to slow. Case thickness and the camera area can also affect how a battery pack or stand sits against the phone, so verify fit rather than assuming every universal ring accessory will align correctly.

- Confirm that the case is designed for the exact model—S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra cases are not interchangeable by assumption.
- Check that the case is made for magnetic alignment, not merely a conventional protective case. Remove any metal plate, card or object between the phone and charger.
- Reposition the phone so its charging coil is centered on the charger. Check that the charger and wall adapter are compatible and properly connected.
- Try without a thick case, as Samsung recommends, and let the phone cool if it is hot.
- Test the phone on a conventional Qi pad. If that works but a magnetic accessory does not, the case, alignment or accessory is the likelier issue; consult the accessory maker’s compatibility information.
Wireless PowerShare is a separate feature: it lets the S25 charge another compatible device. It is not Qi2 magnetic charging. Samsung’s support guidance says the phone needs at least 30% battery before PowerShare can be activated (Samsung support instructions).
