Samsung began rolling out Gemini Live camera and screen sharing to the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra on April 7, 2025. At launch, the visual features were included at no additional charge for S25-series users, but they still require a Google Account, an internet connection, compatible software, and an eligible country, language, and account. Gemini Live is a Google assistant integrated into Samsung’s One UI—not a separate Samsung visual-AI model.
What changed in the April 2025 update?
Gemini Live turns Gemini into a spoken, interactive assistant that can respond while you show it something. It has two visual modes:
- Camera sharing: Gemini receives a live view from the phone’s camera. You can ask about an object, plant, appliance, outfit, room, sign, document, or handwritten notes.
- Screen sharing: Gemini can inspect the screen currently displayed on your phone, such as a webpage, shopping listing, chart, menu, setting, or error message.
You speak naturally and receive spoken replies, with follow-up questions that keep the conversation going. Samsung’s examples include getting outfit suggestions, reorganizing a closet, and discussing products while browsing online retailers. The rollout was announced by Samsung on April 7, 2025.
“Real-time” means an ongoing conversation while visual input is shared; it does not mean zero-latency responses or perfect recognition.

How it differs from other Galaxy AI tools

Which Galaxy phones received the rollout?
Samsung’s original announcement covered the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Those phones launched in the United States on February 7, 2025, with Gemini integrated into Android 15 and One UI 7. The camera-and-screen-sharing update followed in April rather than launching with the phones.
Do not assume that every later S25-branded model, such as an S25 Edge or S25 FE, was part of that original announcement. Model support can be confirmed through current Samsung documentation. Google has also described Gemini Live camera and screen sharing expanding to additional Android devices, so this should not be treated as a permanent S25 exclusive.
Requirements, availability and cost
- A supported Galaxy phone; the April rollout specifically covered the S25 series.
- A signed-in Google Account.
- Internet connectivity. Mobile-data charges may apply.
- Current Android, One UI, Google app and Gemini app software where applicable.
- A supported country and language, plus an eligible account. Samsung’s launch material specified selected countries and users aged 18 or older.
Samsung says Gemini is supported on Galaxy phones running Android 10 or later, while seamless cross-app actions with Gemini and Gemini Live require Android 15 and One UI 7.0 or later. That general support statement does not guarantee that every visual Live function works on every Android 10 device.

For the S25 rollout, Samsung said camera and screen sharing were available at no additional charge. That does not make every Gemini model, feature, storage benefit or future subscription free. A time-limited Google One AI Premium promotion bundled with some S25 purchases should not be treated as a current universal benefit.
How to start Gemini Live on a Galaxy S25
- Press and hold the Side button to open Gemini.
- Tap the Live icon, shown as three vertical lines with a star.
- If the “Go Live with Gemini” information appears, review it and tap OK.
- Start speaking.
- Tap Video to share the camera view.
- Tap Share screen to show Gemini what is on the display.
- Use the microphone control to mute or unmute.
- Tap the close control to end the session.
The exact labels and icon design can change with One UI, language and Gemini updates. Samsung documents that a “Listening…” or “Live with Gemini” bar can remain available while you move to the Home screen or another app, allowing you to reopen the conversation.

Useful things to try
With the camera
- Ask what an unfamiliar tool, appliance or household object is generally used for.
- Show several clothing items and ask for outfit combinations.
- Point at a cluttered shelf or closet and request organization ideas.
- Show a plant or room and ask for general care or layout suggestions.
- Hold up a sign, menu, document or whiteboard for an explanation or translation.
With screen sharing
- Ask for a summary of a webpage or comparison of visible product listings.
- Show a chart, diagram or menu and ask what it appears to mean.
- Display a phone setting or error message and ask for an explanation.
- Ask about a recipe, travel page or instructions currently on screen.
Shopping assistance is limited to what Gemini can see. It is not guaranteed price comparison, inventory verification or impartial product advice. Connected-app actions also depend on the account, app, language and staged rollout; seeing an app does not mean Gemini can operate every control in it.
Where it can fail
Gemini may misidentify an object, miss small text, misunderstand context or answer confidently while being wrong. Improve results by moving closer, increasing lighting, holding the camera steady and naming the exact object you want inspected. For multiple objects, specify which one. Fast-moving scenes are harder than a stable view.
Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, safety-critical or professional repair decisions. Treat generated explanations as assistance, not verification. Samsung itself advises checking Gemini’s responses for accuracy.

Privacy and screen-sharing safety
Gemini Live is an internet-connected cloud service. Camera frames, screen content, voice input or transcripts may be transmitted for processing under Google’s Gemini settings and privacy policies. It should not be described as fully on-device AI.
Before sharing, hide or close:
- Passwords, authentication codes and banking or payment screens.
- Private messages, email and confidential work documents.
- Medical or legal records.
- Other people’s faces or personal information without consent.
- Notifications that could appear while you share the screen.
Enable camera or screen sharing only when needed and stop it immediately afterward. To stop screen sharing from the notification panel, open the Google screen-share notification and tap Stop sharing, as described in Samsung’s Gemini permissions and assistant guidance. Do Not Disturb and closing sensitive apps can reduce accidental exposure.
If Gemini Live is missing
- Install updates under Settings → Software update.
- Update Gemini, the Google app and related components in the Play Store.
- Confirm that the intended Google Account is signed in.
- Check that Gemini is the active digital assistant if holding the Side button opens something else.
- Review camera, microphone and notification permissions.
- Check region, language, age and account eligibility.
- Try opening the Gemini app directly instead of using the Side button.
- Restart the phone after updating.
- If it remains unavailable, use Gemini’s Help & feedback option.
A missing control can reflect a staged server-side rollout or account provisioning. Clearing app data or changing a setting cannot guarantee access.

Is Gemini Live a reason to buy a Galaxy S25?
It is a useful convenience feature, especially if you regularly need help understanding physical objects, documents, rooms or on-screen information. However, it is primarily a software-and-service capability that Google is expanding to more Android phones. Do not buy the S25 Ultra solely to obtain it; the core rollout covered all three S25 models.
Choose among the S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra based on the entire phone—camera hardware, display size, battery, performance, S Pen functionality, software-support period and price. Gemini Live can improve the experience, but it should be a bonus rather than the sole reason to choose a handset.

No. It is an internet-connected Gemini service, so visual and voice data may be transmitted for cloud processing according to Google’s settings and policies.
Can Gemini Live see everything on my screen?
Only when you deliberately start screen sharing, and it may still miss or misinterpret content. Hide passwords, payment details, private messages and confidential documents before sharing.
