The Galaxy S25 Edge’s appearance in firmware-development listings showed that Samsung was preparing Android 16 with One UI 8 for the phone. It was an early sign of development—not a public download, a confirmed release date, or proof that the software was ready. Since then, the stable update has rolled out, and Samsung’s German schedule marks it completed. Availability and build numbers can still vary by country and carrier.
What appeared on Samsung’s servers?
A firmware listing associated with the Galaxy S25 Edge (model family SM-S937) pointed to an Android 16 build with Samsung’s One UI 8 software. The original reporting described the software as being in development. That is meaningful evidence that Samsung was working on an update for the Edge, but it is not the same as an update being offered through the phone’s normal Software update screen. SamMobile’s report on the development listing is the contemporaneous account of the discovery.
A server-side or firmware-index sighting does not by itself establish that a build is stable, publicly downloadable, approved by every carrier, or available in every country. Nor does it reveal a dependable release date or guarantee that every advertised One UI 8 feature would be enabled on this model.
Why the Edge was missing from the first beta
Samsung’s initial One UI 8 beta covered the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, but not the S25 Edge. The Edge launched later than those models, and contemporary reporting suggested that its timing and Samsung’s selective beta eligibility may explain the omission. That was a reported explanation, not a reason Samsung officially confirmed. Beta availability was also limited by market and program eligibility. What happened after the listing
- May 2025: Samsung opened the One UI 8 beta for selected S25 models, excluding the Edge.
- September 2025: The stable One UI 8 rollout for the S25 family began in South Korea. Early reports did not establish that the Edge was part of the first wave. Coverage of the initial rollout reflects that uncertainty.
- Later rollout: The S25 Edge received stable Android 16 and One UI 8. The Edge update report marks the change from development evidence to a released update.
- By February–March 2026: Samsung’s German support schedule marked the S25 Edge’s One UI 8 update as completed. This is a regional schedule, not a guarantee that every carrier or market completed its rollout on the same date. Samsung Germany’s schedule provides the official regional status.
- July 2026: A third-party firmware index showed later U.S. carrier builds identified as Android 16 and One UI 8.5. That is useful evidence of build activity, but it is not a Samsung release notice. The SM-S937U/CCT listing identifies the model and carrier variant.
Status as of August 18, 2026: One UI 8 is no longer merely an update in development for the S25 Edge; it has rolled out, with Samsung’s German schedule marking the update complete. The later One UI 8.5 entries are Android 16-based according to the third-party listing, not evidence that the phone has moved to Android 17. For your own device, the Software update screen and Samsung or carrier support are more relevant than a build indexed for another variant.
What Android 16 and One UI 8 mean
Android 16 is the underlying operating-system version. One UI 8 is Samsung’s interface and software layer built on it. The S25 Edge originally shipped with One UI 7 based on Android 15, so One UI 8 represents a major platform and interface update from its launch software.

Do not assume that a feature shown in general One UI 8 materials is available on every S25 Edge. Features can depend on hardware, market, language, carrier, and Samsung account configuration. Firmware identifiers also differ by country, carrier, model variant, and update channel; a newer-looking number in a third-party index does not mean that build is suitable for your phone.

How to check for the update
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
- If an update is offered, review the version, security-patch date, download size, and change log before proceeding.
- Use Wi-Fi, make sure the phone has adequate battery charge, and follow the on-screen prompts. Restart if asked.
Menu wording can vary slightly with software version, language, or carrier firmware. If nothing appears, check again later: Samsung and carriers can distribute updates in stages. Confirm your exact model and whether it is carrier-branded or imported. Samsung Members or your carrier can help clarify device-specific availability.

Before a major update, back up important data. A phone with little free storage may need more room to complete an installation than the displayed download size suggests. If the update has just reached your region and the phone is essential for work, waiting briefly to see whether serious device-specific problems emerge can be reasonable. On the other hand, security fixes are a reason not to postpone an update indefinitely.

A listing does not mean you should download and install the build manually. Flashing firmware intended for another region or carrier can cause installation failure, data loss, boot problems, or missing modem, VoLTE, eSIM, and other carrier features. A test or unapproved build may also be less stable than the official update. Manual installation can complicate support or warranty claims.

Third-party indexes such as SamFW can help track firmware, but they are not a substitute for Samsung’s update mechanism. Unless you know exactly which firmware matches your model and understand the risks, use the official over-the-air update path rather than a file found online.
Does this make the S25 Edge a better buy?
The update confirms that the Edge received the Android 16 generation of Samsung software; it does not, by itself, make the phone a better value than another S25 model. Samsung’s U.S. buying page displayed the S25 Edge at $1,299.99 on August 18, 2026; configuration, promotions, trade-ins, taxes, and carrier terms can change the total. Check Samsung’s current S25 Edge purchase page for live availability and pricing.
The Edge is most compelling for buyers who specifically want its thin design. If you prioritize value or a conventional flagship form factor, compare it with the Galaxy S25 and S25+. If camera flexibility and maximum flagship features matter most, consider the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Prices and configurations change, so compare the live offers rather than treating the update as a reason on its own to buy.
