Samsung’s Camera Assistant is reported to be expanding to more Galaxy phones and tablets with the Android 16-based One UI 8.5 rollout. Newly reported phone support includes the Galaxy A34, A35, A36, A37, M34, M35 and M36, alongside Tab S8 through Tab S11 families. Availability depends on the exact model, firmware and region—and installing the module does not guarantee that every setting will appear.
What Camera Assistant does
Camera Assistant is a Samsung utility distributed through Good Lock and/or the Galaxy Store. It adds controls for the stock Samsung Camera app; it is not a replacement camera app. Depending on the device, its settings can change shutter behavior, image processing, HDR, lens switching and timer options. Samsung notes that paths and available features can vary by device, software, app version and region (Samsung’s Camera Assistant guidance).
Possible controls include faster shutter capture, picture softening, Auto HDR, automatic lens switching, extra timer shots and intervals, recording video from Photo mode by holding the shutter button, and dimming the display during video recording. Some devices also offer external-display preview, focus-versus-speed choices, distortion correction or additional zoom and portrait shortcuts. This is not a universal feature list: the camera hardware and Samsung’s device-specific software determine what appears.

These are reported additions, not proof that One UI 8.5 or Camera Assistant has reached every unit worldwide. Rollouts can vary by market, carrier and model. Samsung’s Galaxy Store compatibility check on the device is the practical test.
Reported tablet support
Recent coverage also reports support across the Galaxy Tab S8, S9, S10 and S11 families. Depending on the generation, coverage includes Plus and Ultra versions and some FE models; reports do not enumerate every Wi-Fi, cellular and regional configuration consistently. Check the specific tablet rather than assuming that every device sharing a family name is eligible.

Earlier supported Galaxy devices
Earlier compatibility coverage includes Galaxy S20 through S24 families, Note20, older Z foldables, and selected A-, M- and F-series models. Previously listed midrange phones include the Galaxy A52/A52s, A53, A54 and A55. Lists evolve as Samsung updates the module, so an older list is a guide, not a permanent or exhaustive compatibility promise (SamMobile’s supported-device coverage).

How to install and open Camera Assistant
- Check for firmware updates at Settings → Software update → Download and install. Install any update offered for your device.
- Open Good Lock, if it is available for your device and region, and look in its module area for Camera Assistant. You can also search for Camera Assistant directly in the Galaxy Store.
- Install or update the module, then restart the device if the integration does not appear immediately.
- Open Samsung’s stock Camera app, tap the settings gear, and look for Camera Assistant in Camera settings.
Samsung’s guidance describes the Galaxy Store and Good Lock routes. Good Lock availability has varied by market; a direct Galaxy Store search may be worth trying where Good Lock is unavailable, but neither route guarantees regional support.
If Camera Assistant is missing or incomplete
- Check software first. Confirm that your device has the latest firmware available to it, then update Samsung Camera, Good Lock and Camera Assistant.
- Search the Galaxy Store directly. Do not rely only on the Good Lock module list. The listing’s availability for your device is more useful than a family-level compatibility claim.
- Consider the exact variant and region. Imported, carrier-specific or regional models may have different compatibility or rollout timing.
- Use Samsung Camera. Camera Assistant integrates with the stock Samsung Camera app, not a third-party camera app.
- Restart, then troubleshoot the store. If installation succeeds but the Camera settings entry is absent, restart. If a store page appears stuck, clearing Galaxy Store or Good Lock cache may help.
- Do not treat an APK as official support. Sideloading can install a package without providing supported camera integration and can introduce update, security or stability problems.
If the module installs but offers only a few settings, that may be a device-profile or hardware limitation rather than a failed installation. Support has three separate questions: whether the module can be installed, whether it integrates with Camera settings, and which individual controls Samsung enables on that device.

Which settings may be useful?

These controls change camera behavior or processing preferences; they do not upgrade a sensor or lens. Compare several shots in similar lighting before deciding whether a setting helps. A faster capture, a softer rendering or a forced lens choice may improve one result and worsen another.
Bottom line
The reported expansion brings Camera Assistant to more midrange Galaxy phones and Tab S-series tablets, giving eligible owners extra control over Samsung’s stock camera. Treat compatibility as device- and region-specific, verify it in the Galaxy Store, and expect a tailored subset of controls—not a guaranteed flagship feature set or an automatic image-quality upgrade.
